Gregg Miller live tweets from PS4 presentation

I'm actually really liking everything I'm hearing about the ps4. Definitely jumping in day one. I'm really curious to see what ms comes up with. From what we've been hearing I feel like they may be going in a more entertainment direction which worries me a bit. Either way I'm pumped for the next gen.

Nor will it be forced on Kinect. The difference being that if its in the box (either of them) then every dev can do whatever they want and no one is negatively affected by the decision.

The chances are great since trophies won't be tacked onto the PS4. They'll be built from the ground up with the OS. If they're not, Sony needs to hire new coders.

Except people who have to pay extra $$ for something they have no use for...

I know I will be annoyed if I could have saved like over $50 if I could get a nextbox without the kinect. It also seems, unlike with the eye, kinect will still be a big part of the nextbox, like its build WITH kinect as a focus point.

Just my view.

I hope it's optional and if it lowers costs, then I hope it's not bundled. If somethings comes which makes me want the PS eye, then I will buy it when I need it.

Few people give a shit about motion controls.
I wouldn't say that. The Wii was extremely successful. 1 in 3 360 owners owns a Kinect. Move has sold very well too.

It's already confirmed that the PS4 wont be required to be online, of course it have to be online if you want to connect it to other devices through the internet.
I didn't say it was required. I said it was always connected. In the Durango thread where a leaked MS document mentioned the console being always connected so that it could download patches, updates, games etc. while it was turned off, so it's always up to date when you turn it on, it was met with a resounding "fuck off" from the majority even though nowhere did it say it was mandatory either.

Nice.

Image doesn't work, what does it say?

They did say that the core gamer was the central focus of the machine. Entertainment features are going to have to be there day 1 though. No console launches without entertainment/media features these days.

But surely for the PS4 to do that it would have to be always online, even when it's off. I thought people here hated the idea of that?

You do realize you can turn on your PS3 right now via vita via internet?

Surely, you also realize that people hate always online if its forced on even to play SP games that has no MP function.

OPM You talked a lot about service, tech and ideas; how are you going to present PS4 to a more casual market?

Michael Denny So I think two of the other pillars we talked about in-terms of design were simplicity and immediacy. Even taking back a step from here, PlayStation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all. So it depends what level you want to use these feature sets at. So with ’simple’ and ’immediacy’ we want it so that everything is one button click away, for example. And ’immediacy’ takes down these barriers that can be frustrating to gamers between the player getting access to the content.

People hate always-online in that it's the only option. That's not the case with the PS4. It's optional.

This is what worries me, everything we've heard has come from a Sony event. I'm waiting to hear features/limitations from the other side of the coin.

Ha! Controller keeps a copy of the user profile, called that shit.

Hopefully they incorporate NFC which allows quick syncing comes to fruition as well.

Why you no hire me Sony! D:

There have been rumors that Durango would require online connectivity.

Didn't overthink anything. If it's not included with every PS4, it's a huge mistake. Anything that splits the userbase out of the gate is a big mistake.

As for charging controllers while the PS4 is off, didn't we already know that when they said the PS4 is always on (low-power sleep mode essentially)?

Or.... Maybe the camera add-on won't be the focus of the device and they want to keep entry costs low. A stance I very, very much appreciate.
They are not going to take the (still rumored) Microsoft route.

same as for durango - optional always online. not must.

Pretty sure Microsoft hasn't said either way if theirs is mandatory or not. My assumption is its not required to play games, because that would just be stupid. But always-on and always-connected are great things. I currently have my PS3 setup to update itself and my games every night. I'm assuming that's going to be a standard feature of the PS4 and that it will be much more robust since the unit will always be on. Sleep mode for consoles. Awesome.

Which console does that?

Defending splitting the consumer base on day 1. Wow.

Defending forcing something the majority of gamers don't want upon them... Wow.

Didn't expect any less from you. Preemptive damage control for when Microsoft forces Kinect 2 on it's user base I'd imagine.

I wonder if its possible for us to be able to pick our OWN control option for games without developers having to allow this feature...

Probably not possible.

Really love the focus on the gamer & developers first and foremost - I hope Microsoft follows suit with the same messaging.

If they're smart they will. It's good marketing since hardcore gamers make up the early adopters. The difference is that people will accept it as reality from Sony but call BS from MS. In the end both companies want to control the living room.

They not forcing anything I really wish people stop saying this.

Forcing on minatory hook up or minatory to play games.

Of course. I'm just basing my comments on the responses to the Durango features from that leaked MS document, which are basically the same as the PS4's. Nowhere did it say that an online connection was mandatory to use Durango or play games, yet people still hated the idea of having a console that was always connected to the Internet.

Yes, rumours. Meanwhile Sony have actually said that they will leave it up to devs to decide if online activations are required for games, so you can't be sure that there won't be PS4 games with forced online either. That was kinda glossed over though, while the Durango rumours seem to have been taken as fact by many.

So wait, I can use Remote Play on Vita over the internet, anywhere?

Holy shit if that's the case
Actual uses of this are incredibly limited due to conditions necessary to perform such task (mostly on recieving end).
