PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

Just finished The Cave. What a nice little game. One of those games that I would never have played without PS+. And, after all, that's what PS+ is all about, giving us the opportunity to play games that we wouldn't pay to play.
Although after playing it I feel I would have paid for it knowing what I do now.

The game gets kinda repetitive if you want to play with all the characters/get all the endings. But otherwise yeah it's a very nice game.

Do game keys get given out somehow? I'm so used to Steam, and it's kind of a bummer seeing a bunch of games I want at 15 bucks a pop. Too expensive compared to getting things for free or even 2.50 to 5 bucks a game.

I'd much rather buy keys off people than straight out of PSN....or am I out of luck?

You clearly have 0 idea how PSN works.

Its nothing like Steam, there are no keys

None at all? I'm sad now. Funny how I join the PSN party near the end of the generation and it's making me wish I had a better laptop....damn you Sony.

Edit: Okay another question, how often do the discounts change? I'm thinking of getting Red Faction Guerrilla for 5 bucks...worth it? I'd much rather get Tokyo Jungle or something else but it's the cheapest game that looks interesting.

Also, where can I buy a PS+ card on discount?

I have bought 2 games with keys off Gamestop so there are definitely keys. I'm not saying everything on PSN does it but with PSP games, I've done it.

I've never seen anything other than redeem codes for native content on PS3/PSN. That means PS+ or just PSN wallet cards.

Yeah, a second playthrough with three new characters isn't that bad since half the game will be entirely new, but since it's just 7 characters a third playthrough turns out to be very repetitive. That said, I still enjoyed it thoroughly and some of the puzzles were wonderfully clever. The monk and time traveler sections were particularly cool. Well worth playing.

There are keys. It is how press gets their games. They're standard codes just like regular PSN vouchers. They just don't get distributed.

Something I wanted to elude to but there are codes. They just don't sell many of the PSN PS3 titles out there unless they are for press or somehow a company has some to sell or give away.

The sales usually last a week, some a little longer. I don't think there's a sale on PS+ cards right now, but maybe you can find something on ebay.

Hey guys. Can I buy a game online from PStore website? (I'm in Canada). I know it's possible on the US part of the PStore, but is it available for Canadian? I don't have my PS3 with me and would like to buy a game for the get 10$ back :p

Edit : Nevermind, I found it.

Well guys...I received a copy of Journey: Collector's Edition for Xmas and just finally got around to opening it a couple of weeks ago. In it was a voucher for a free month of PS+ that explicitly says "Valid through 3/31/2013" so I waited til today to redeem it to try and get the most out of the code.

Only now the code just says that it is expired when I try to redeem, even though the card itself says "Valid through 3/31/2013" not "Expires on 3/31/2013" or anything else that would lead me to believe that it might not be good to go today.

I've talked to 2 Sony customer service reps, one on the online live chat and one on the phone, and neither of them were of any help at all.

Is Sony customer service always this much of a disaster? I feel like this is probably the easiest problem to solve in the entire world...I'm not exactly asking for a moon here, what does one month of PS+ run them, like $5?

End rant.

Sony appears to have a policy of giving the ability to grant credit/codes to only upper-tier support people. When my Borderlands Ultimate Bundle license was accidentally (inexplicably!) revoked it took a good while to get it fixed, and it took knowing someone on the inside who could deal with the issue personally. I got lucky. I feel bad for everyone else. :(

Thanks for reminding me to redeem my voucher that came with the GOW Saga. It also says valid through 3/31/2013 so after reading this I figured it probably wouldn't work. To my surprise it worked fine

If anyone has one of those free monthers that they don't plan on using by the end of today, it would be greatly appreciated.

No problem brother. I'm glad I could at least help someone out with my misfortune.

So I'm going to buy a new 750GB hard drive soon. Is there an easy way to transfer all my files to the new hard drive? I can re-download all my games, but I'd rather save time by transferring the ones I have right now on my HDD.

You can backup almost everything to a FAT32 external drive. Specifically FAT32 format, which can be a bit of an issue if you're planning on backing up more than just save files to a USB stick, since Windows by default limits the partition size to something pretty small for that format.

You can just get a code here: https://www.facebook.com/SonyPlaystation/app_106681779474103

There's a backup utility in the settings.
So I have to back up all my data to an external hard drive, then insert my new 2.5HDD and restore it from that external drive?

edit: It has to be Fat32? I have 1 external hard drive lying around but it's NTFS...

Worth pointing out that THQs content has started disappearing from digital storefronts, so if you want RFG, I'd grab it now.

I played the demo before biting. I didn't like it very much. I'll pass, or buy the disc later down. I'm still looking for a racing game and haven't found a good one. I'm not too into sims and I already own Burnout Paradise on PC, so I think I'm considering Ridge Racer 7 right now above all. I tried the demo of NFS Most Wanted, but another open world game at 30 FPS didn't really make me want to continue playing either.

Just wondering, back when Runner2 was released and was discounted to $11.99 for Plus members I added it to my cart on the web store. I believe the discount is over now but when I go to my cart it still shows up as $11.99.

I guess if I actually go through with the purchase it will charge me 14.99, right?

Yea, specifically FAT32. You CAN format a large HDD to FAT32, but it isn't straightforward.

A couple things to add:
1. It took about 20 hours to backup my 320GB HDD and another 20 to restore it.
2. Don't forget to copy the latest FW update if you have a Slim or later model.

I am itching to see what will be announced for April.

Any guesses?

Plz Sony;Dragons Dogma + NFS Most Wanted Vita

That's like three times the 4 hours backup on my 139GB(160GB HD) worth of data back then. Geez. Perhaps very old data?

TBH I don't EXACTLY know how long it took. It would say stuff like 10 hours 5 minutes remaining, and 15 minutes would pass and it would say 10 hours 2 minutes remaining.

I hope to god it's dragons dogma, that would piss off my friend so much who just got the game for like $30 from amazon.

One last question. Is there a hard drive size limit for the PS3? I'm probably going to get a 750GB, but can it accept larger ones?
Yes, it can. I have a 2.5" 1TB in mine.
If I remember right, there should be no stopping it from accepting even bigger, but I have to recheck this one.

Are there bigger 2.5" drives? Some of the early 1TB HDDs were taller than normal and wouldn't fit right, but newer ones are fine. I also have a 1 TB HDD.

Any news on what games we get in April? Can't check the blog at work. Not that I'll have any time for them, Disgaea 3 is fucking crack.

Quick question about backing up the HDD.
If I only want to transfer my saves, I could just use any storage device in FAT 32, right? A 16GB flash drive should do it then?
