PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

I was enjoyed Spec Ops until chapter 6 where the game keeps locking up.

I've tried 14 times yesterday to continue my game and it just keeps locking. It's gotta be something due to the hdd. I only say that because when the game starts up where I left off, you can see the textures slowly get sharper

Look back a page or two... I was having a problem with The Cave. I deleted, downloaded, re-installed and now it works fine.

Hate to give that hack of a suggestion, but Worked For Me®.

Hey, jvm, did you ever finish that story you were putting together with our transaction information? I had presumed you were looking to see if people on Plus (sounds like a drug addiction) became more active when subscribed, and I was very interested in seeing the results, as I know I've become WAY more active on PSN since getting on The Plus Pony.

It's on my list of things to do. I do have data from several people and it's collected into a big summary.

The thing I found out, if anyone cares, is that I'm a huge outlier. PS+ altered my buying habits, but I still spend much, much more than anyone else I got data from.

In fact, it's hard to say precisely how PS+ changed some people's habits because they basically spent very little before PS+ and then spent very little afterward but scarfed up every free item that was offered.

I say that without judgment. It's precisely what I think the program encourages. I just happen to be more susceptible to discounts than others are, and I'm willing to go big on new items at full price when I absolutely want them right now.

Edit: For the record, here's my TTM (trailing twelve month) spending from the beginning of my PSN registration to January 2013. Each point represents the spending in the previous 12 month period. That means that two successive points cover a similar 11-month period. You can't just add them up.

The peak and drop off at the launch of PS+ is clearly there.

I may have reached my pre-PS+ peak recently, because of the $10-back-for-$50 promotion and buying Bioshock Infinite.

I think I'm right there with you. I was pretty shocked to see how much more I spent after owning Plus than before. I expected it, but not to this degree.

Hey guys, I'm at the mall right now. Found a copy of demons souls for 15 bucks. I'm going in with blind expectations. Do I win?

It's a polarizing game. It gets lots of praise on GAF, but I tried to get into it but decided it was an unnecessarily frustrating masochistic obtuse experience. (See Yhatzee's take on it for a similar experience to mine.)

Crap, my PS+ sub just ran out. Can't get a new one until next week and the code I got from Eurogamer for 30 days isnt working. Grrr!

Was gonna try via the SEN Store but I have problems login in, anyone else.?

EU 30 day codes only work if you've never had Plus (including another trial) before.

Yes. Arguably the best game on PS3/the whole generation.
One of the reasons I got it. I love me some difficulty in games. Separates what's worth playing and isn't to me. Plus it's a ps3 exclusive. I didn't get this thing to play the same games I get on Steam.

I'm going home in about an hour. Can't wait to boot it up.

The Souls games are not difficult. They just require you to play them like you played games in the 80s/90s - with consequence.

There's difficult, and there's unfairly punishing. Demons Souls is the latter. As you saw, lots of people did enjoy it, but don't be taken aback if you're not one of them.

..

Seriously?

The last thing the Souls games are is unfair. Everything in that game is deliberate, and every time you die or fail it's because of your lack of skill/patience/knowledge of the area. Not to turn this thread into a Souls thread as well, but blaming the game for your inability to adapt is silly.

Think of the original Mario for NES. If you got to the end of a level and accidentally fell into a pit or didn't realize there was a goomba coming and rushed into it - you died and went back to the start - and it was your fault. BUT, the next time you got to that section you were hopefully smart enough to not fall or to react to the goomba. That's the Souls games in a nutshell.

Wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get the full month's news. They said last month it was a test, and lots of variables would be accounted for. I would've thought if the test worked out, they would have said "hey guys, great news, we'll be doing the full month thing from now on!" But I don't believe they have said anything like that.

I agree with this. Demon's Souls is the type of game that you either love or hate. For $15 bucks, though, it's probably worth finding out.

This. It's not difficult at all. You just can't play like a jackass like in most other games nowadays, where dying doesn't matter in the least, so you stop really trying.

I disagree. Even if you are extremely careful the game puts you into instance after instance where an instant death is not just possible, but likely. It's true that like those NES games perseverance and memorization can get you through, but the penalty for dying is absurdly harsh, and I stopped finding games that rely on repetition and memorization enjoyable long ago.

That would almost be true if the game didn't penalize you so harshly for dying. Removing half your life immediately places you at a gigantic disadvantage, which, given that you died because you were already at a disadvantage, really sours whatever enjoyment the game hoped you'd get out of it, and doesn't really strike me as "fair". It's one thing to knock you back, it's another to knock you back and ask you to try again while hobbled.

The penalty for death is harsh..? I just..gah. I'll stop there.

There are a lot of really strange design choices that would result in a better product were they removed. Controls can be cumbersome, healing is a pain, and navigation around dangerous areas is not always consistent.

Plus, level design in some areas is just absolutely appalling.

I elaborated above your post. You're welcome to stop, but I'd actually like someone to explain to me how they didn't find the drop in HP and simultaneous XP drop unfair.

Edit: But yeah, PS Plus is awesome! Woohoo! (Maybe we should get back on topic)

So, I just renewed today for one more year. I have to say I'm short of cash these days and There's a bunch of games I want to pick up ( NFSMWU, MHU, Tomb Raider...) but this service has been so awesome till now that I felt I should jump on it one more year.

Can't wait for this month, and waiting for VLG for Vita so far and some more PS3 goodness.

Come on SONY, Don't dissapoint!!!

... Definitely the wrong thread. People in here apparently LIKE PS+, much like every thread on GAF, except for the one about PS+.

Who wouldn't like free gamez????

I elaborated above your post. You're welcome to stop, but I'd actually like someone to explain to me how they didn't find the drop in HP and simultaneous XP drop unfair.

I'd rather not because we'd go way off topic. I'm perfectly fine with people not liking Souls, I just think some of the criticisms are.. misguided. As for your hp point, apparently you never beat the first level as you'd have found a ring that mitigates the hp penalty of being dead - but then there's also the system of trying to keep your character alive for the hp/damage bonus, while also fighting off the imminent threat of being invaded. Greatest game of the gen?

Yes.

If you want to beat Dark Souls or Demon's Souls hella fucking quick

There are ways now to level your character to max or guides that have guideline to get you set on the right path and towards the Platinum

HP drop is a side effect of your form after death. There are other, positive side effects. It's such that many players prefer to stay in that form the whole game, I know I did. There's also an item available early on that largely mitigates the HP loss.

On topic: I'm sure whoever's getting ready to post the PS+ lineup is shaking their head at the troll possibilities of posting on April 1. :)

Those ways were always there. The games themselves can be speed run in a mere hour or so, even from a completely fresh character. It's just the enjoyment of those games comes from creeping through and learning everything (with the online community) so you can mop up everything your next time. The big flaw with the games is once the cat's out of the bag with the enemies/environments, the games become insanely easy and non-threatening.

I just recently came back to my Dark file after putting off the last two trophs for two years. Even having not played that long, I jumped in and one shot S&O and Sif on NG+. It's a game that rewards skill and knowing how the game plays.

Are there bigger 2.5" drives? Some of the early 1TB HDDs were taller than normal and wouldn't fit right, but newer ones are fine. I also have a 1 TB HDD.

Yeah, I just glossed over mentioning that. The early 1TB 2.5" are indeed taller and wouldn't fit.

Quick question about backing up the HDD.
If I only want to transfer my saves, I could just use any storage device in FAT 32, right? A 16GB flash drive should do it then?

A FAT32 flash drive should be perfectly fine yeah. I forgot if you can hit triangle and do a select all > back up or have to do individually. Just don't hit delete all >_>

Yes.

I did beat the first part. 75% is still harsh, and means you have one less equip. Didn't realize there were advantages to the spirit form (I never figured one out), but perhaps there's some explanation I missed somewhere. I actually tried to play through the game more than once, with two different characters, attempting different combinations of skills, before realizing I wasn't enjoying it one lick and trading it in (one of few games I've done this with). Managed to get pretty deep into at least two of the levels, activating various "checkpoints" within that would shorten the time needed to run through again, reaching the boss battles, and it still seemed like a chore. But hey, I'm cool with people liking it. I enjoy hard games and, given all the praise, expected to enjoy this one. I just didn't and wonder if I simply missed something.

But hey, we're it to become a Plus title at some point, I'd give it another go.

The EU Plus games should be available when the store updates this week. It'll be the PS3 games only however.
Can't access US Blog, have they announced the games yet? If so what are they?

Sounds good, thanks. I can't wait to play Okami and see if it lives up to the hype.
