Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) coming to NA retail/eShop Summer 2013 (July 16)

I don't think time should matter that much that much, There's a lot of horrible RPG's that are long as fuck.

But SMT4 is going to be awesome.
Oh definitely, it's a position I felt stronger about in the past than I do now. But it IS pretty easy to rationalize when it's several hours of a really good RPG versus a few hours of a shooter you HOPE you'll like but really may not be your thing. If it were RE4 quality they'd be equal, but that was a lightning in a bottle moment which we probably won't see again, not without another extreme reinvention anyway.

Time to get out, was good while it lasted.

I don't, the point you were trying to make was really dumb.

How so? ATLUS is releasing games (or, rather, products) to appeal to every part of the MegaTen "community". No one is being left behind.

It's not like the budget should matter to the fans, after all half of the mainline titles are on a SNES. Not that the majority of the people complaining even touched those games...

Really? I thought that. But I don't care if it stinks. I'm just glad it's releasing. I'll buy it just because.

I'm buying it after bitching for it for months. I need to support a niche localisation with japanese voices.

I mean, by all means go ahead and buy it, it's just that, you know, if it comes down to it, you shouldn't prioritize it. (Though I'd sooner pick it up than Time and Eternity)

So it's really easy?

If it's anything like the 3 previous games by the same team, it's probably really boring. Battle after battle where you have to do a bunch of finger numbing button inputs just to do the maximum damage in that turn and watch the same animations over and over and over until the enemy dies.

I've yet to finish a single "Persona" title, but I love and have played Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga. If I were to start playing Persona games, which I will at some point, I'm starting with the first two. Atmosphere/mood/setting-wise, they are way more appealing to me. I have nothing against P3 & P4, I've actually played both for a decent amount of time back when they launched on PS2, but they are WAY TOO high school kid problems for my taste, lol! They're cool games and everything and they do a lot of neat things with their battle systems and such, but there's way too much of a focus on teenager drama, dating, and after school activities. No thanks.

I know people are going to take this the wrong way, but I've always thought of Persona as games for people who haven't moved on from high school. A lot of people I've met in life always reflect back to high school and it amazes me. I fucking hated high school. My best memories are from my college years, but you never see people reflect on those times, at least not the people I've met/worked with. I guess that's why the Persona games are so popular, right? From observations (or for more or less shits and giggles) I assigned the SMT games to particular stages of life:

Persona: For people who are still in high school or can't move on from high school.
Digital Devil Saga: For college students or generally people pursuing a higher education.
Mainline SMT/Nocturne: For adults who work full time jobs and have little to look forward to other than survival and paying bills. That's at least where I find myself now, lol!

Philosophical mama-drama aside, SMT: IV's gonna be hot!

I've never played any of those games, I heard japan loves them.

That Eternity game is shit, everyone knows that

I think the graphics look incredible. It literally is a playable cartoon. Too bad about the art-style and animation.

The concept is great, the execution is horrific. It's a really compelling case for why most games that shoot for "playable cartoon" go with cel shaded models rather than actual animation cels.

Haha to any of thise threads about jrpgs dying

So it's really easy?
I may be wrong there, but if it's really boring I have to assume there really isn't much difficulty, at most keep an eye on how to maximize damage then go. If it were a seriously complicated strategy game, well, it'd probably STILL be too damn long and slow, but at least throwing millions of units may've served a real purpose the.

Nah. People keep saying that, but it's really not. It's much more of a copy of Eva-clones than Eva itself. In fact, the designer they got to design the Septentriones is the manga artist who created Bokurano, one of many stories which take the "Eva" formula and makes a spin on it.

I feel like they copied Eva bare-bone story and then filled it with animu shit about rainbows and dancing waifus instead of the 2deep4u stuff Eva has.

JUSTICE JUSTICE JUSTICE and MERITOCRACY MERITOCRACY MERITOCRACY

It's less of a Megaten story than the first game but it has nothing to do with waifus.

I will buy this game day one and then immediately put it on my shelf because there are too many other Atlus/SMT games in my backlog.

Ronaldo's JUSTICE JUSTICE JUSTICE MY FIST IS JUSTICE is way worse than Yamato's meritocracy bull, but that's mostly because Ronaldo is supposed to be an adult and while I can totally buy a seventeen year old asshole believing they're smarter and better than everyone else.

Well, it'll take a bit of finagling to get SMT4 into my Gold Box but an Amazon pre-order should be happening in the next day or two. Will still be looking out for a better deal though, hopefully Newegg pulls through.

I wish it was less like both and more like Shin Megami Tensei

Batmanuel and generic white haired dude design are my OTP

It's the edition that works in your NA 3DS and displays English text, which you probably wouldn't be getting at all if it weren't $50. That's pretty premium.
I could see it cheaper on eShop. But yeah, Atlus knows their fan base. They could charge $80 and fans would buy it.

With an OST and mini artbook!

$50 is a ridiculous price though. Even Square Enix doesn't charge $50 for their handheld games.
