Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) coming to NA retail/eShop Summer 2013 (July 16)

I'm not seeing the reasoning. There's a big distinction between Persona and Soul Hackers and there's no guarantee that every game on any initial game lists will actually be made. Assuming it never comes, it's just a game that never came to fruition, not that it 'turned into' something else.

anyone who actually cares about jrpgs already has a 3ds and ps3 (and plans for ps4)

I have a 3DS but wouldn't want Persona 5 on it (given the choice).

The regular release will qualify as a limited edition!

This. I don't see a $50 Atlus 3DS title getting a "Solid Gold" edition.

While it's almost guaranteed that the first print run will have a mini sountrack and an art book, the Japanese version has at least two pieces of retailer-specific DLC as preorder bonuses, so if you really, really care about that kind of thing it might be best to wait and see if that comes to America.

Yep.

I wonder if there'll actually be meltdowns when P5 isn't on 3DS.

There will be meltdowns about Persona 5 no matter what man. What if its too grimdark, what if its too kawaii uguu, what if it connects to the shadow operatives, what if it has absolutely no connections at all, what if its just a p3 rehash mechanically for the 3rd time, what if its completely new, what if it has no slinks, what if it has slinks, what if it has enemy negotiation, what if it doesn't, what if it has shadows, what if it has demons, etc

Yep, it sure is. The problem is that you even view it as a "defense" in the first place. It sure would be nice if a discussion could be had without people assuming the other sides have some sort of agenda.

I'm not arguing whether the price is good. And I don't think the price needs defending. The way the market works is: a company offers a product for a price, and you determine if it's a good value and purchase or don't. If fewer people buy it than usual, then the market will have spoken.

I've simply offered an explanation that I feel is the most likely for the price that they've set for the game. It's a statement, not intended to persuade in either direction. The price has been set, here is the reason why I think it's been set to what it has. (And the first post you quoted was totally tongue-in-cheek)
Okay, you have a point about me assuming you are defending it. However, the bolded is an extremely simple way of looking at it.

No demons? Surely no sane person wants that.

NSMB 2, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Mario Kart 7, Star Fox 3D, Fire Emblem, EO IV, Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil Revelations, Unchained Blades (if you want to count it) Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Monster Hunter Tri.

I want to buy every game that would easily take me 100+ hours to complete digitally, as in Monster Hunter/Animal Crossing/Pokemon.

I own: Etrian Odyssey 4, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion, Devil Survivor, Paper Mario, Monster Hunter, Star Fox 3D, Mario Kart 7 Kingdom Hearts, Ocarina, and Virtue's Last Reward.

and yes, Paper Mario sucked, I only played it 3 hours and it depresses me how bad it is.

the games you own that I don't own are NSMB2, RE:R, and Unchained Bladed. I'll check them out, thanks

I'm sticking to my "I doubt it" guns, but if there's a SE I'm in.

I love Sticker Star because of how creative it gets with the puzzle solving but I can totally see how people who wanted more Thousand Year door would react badly, especially after another experimental game in the series had the same largely negative reaction.

Do I stick this in the disc drive? Mail it to Atlus? I dunno what I'm supposed to do!
Already done preordered.

I hope the voice acting in SMTIV is good. The game looks very Japanese. English VO could go wrong pretty easily.

Is it possible for Euro people to buy a US 3DS and buy games from the eshop with points cards?

Looking at your avatar, Gunners for EO5 CONFIRMED.

Mai Waifu

I wonder if I can get her to confess her love of me after hanging out with her 10 times and then never speak to her again

Girl needs to stop cutting her own hair; ears are too big to pull that off, ffs. :P

I just played it 3 hours, It went from being a super creative game to a generic "level" game with stupid stickers.

Dagger to my heart.

Now all I need to hear is that Atlus is getting on a Catherine sequel. Come on baby! Knock back a big one for the boys~!

Is it really so inconceivable? Every other Persona game is on handheld.

Yeah, on SONY handhelds, and that was well after the originals were released.

P5 will be on home consoles first, then maybe a few years later they'll release a port of it.

You're exactly right.

Speak for yourself, she looks great.

What artist is this, btw?

I want to preorder this right now, but I'm wondering about a few things.

I disliked the Etrian Odyssey IV demo. I didn't like how the person moves around the map, and I kind of don't like the 1st person camera it has during battles. Now I see SMT uses the same type of camera. I really liked P3P and P4G's battle style, and pretty much everything overall though.

Anyways, is EO more like SMT than Persona to SMT?

Both series are unlike SMT. Play Strange Journey or Nocturne if you can.

Strange Journey and SMT4 have 1st person battles, I also hate you got not liking EO4... what's wrong with you?

Check Nocturne, I think you'd like it, it's all 3rd person.

I wish I have a PS2, but my only chance of playing Nocturne is if it goes to Vita somehow in the future.

Sorry, but I don't think EO is my type of game. I get somewhat dizzy moving in 1st person view in a weird linear map. I've only played it for 10min though. I'm more interested in SMTIV because at least you move around in 3rd person in nice looking maps.

The trailers for this game look amazing. As someone who's never played any of the SMT games (go easy on me here) I was wondering which would be the best to jump into the series with on the 3DS, Overclocked, Soul Hackers, or SMT IV? I know this one hasn't come out yet, so it may be hard to say, but what do you guys think? Also, how difficult would you say most games in the series are? I don't mind a challenge, as long as it's fair and doesn't seem cheap.

Overclocked is illsuited as a representation of the series. Soul Hackers is much closer, but if you want to know exactly what SMT4 will be like, play Strange Journey.

I say get Overclocked or Soul Hackers first. Don't think you'll go wrong with either.

Also the games are challenging but not insane outside of a handful of optional bosses across the series. If you're reasonably good at RPGs you shouldn't have any big issues.

He said moving in first person makes him dizzy.

Wrong person.

April: Soul Hackers/Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins
May: Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
June: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
July: Shin Megami Tensei IV

Summer (general): Mario Golf: World Tour, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, Project X Zone, Rune Factory 4.

Yup.

Now i'm actually kinda glad there's no Vita games I wanna buy after Soul Sacrifice. I'll be too busy buying shitloads of 3DS games.

You haven't seen anything of EO from just playing it for 10 minutes, I didn't find the combat or exploration that engaging at first, and then it just clicks. It's a truly amazing game.

yeah, SMT4 is going to be awesome!
