Overpowered Characters in Fighting Games

Gill and petshop are obvious answers. Though petshop isn't easy to pick up and start winning with. Gill is super brain dead though. Fuck that guy.

Devo in jojo's is like the worst/best character in the game depending on who plays him. That guy is just super ridiculous but hard as hell to play.

I play Devo. He's not the best character in any respect, he's just hard to get away from if you fuck up. Kakyoin is the best character in Jojo's.

Also, this thread sucks. Almost no overpowered characters here. Where's my Hokuto no Ken guys at?

Eddie Gordo in Tekken 3. Not sure if he was techically OP in high-level tourney play, but as a 'better than average' Tekken player I really hated fighting against him.

He shits on just about every high tier character. He beats Chie and Yu FREE. Mitsuru goes 5-5 at best with him and I'm not 100% on aigis. I know Lord Knight (best US mitsuru player) said fighting teddie is a really hard fight.

He does good damage, his item game is really strong, the bat is really good at controlling horizontal space (since you can dash cancel it) and overall his game is really solid.

And honestly I think Vergil is good but not really "broken" unless he has XF. The issue with him is that he need meter. I think the most "OP" character in umvc3 is straight up zero and doom assist. Zero requires very few resources and can kill with just about any hit. Doom assist is just beyond op compared to the rest of the cast. I mean it changes the metagame so much in marvel.

Hilde is a legit op character. She dominated SC4. The fact that you could charge buttons by configuration the shoulders buttons to those button and hold those while using the normal buttons was just a huge oversight.

SC4 Hilde,

funny thing is that the first months during the games release everyone said she was low tier due to her charging moves but when people found out she could ring out anyone from literally anywhere on a stage she became the bane to the whole community.

This is why I stopped playing. Kratos has been overpowered since the game's beta, the developers knew it. Still didn't care to fix him.

At the Playstation event I went to, it was only Sly, Raiden, and Kratos.
Holy hell, it sucked.

lol really 6-4? I can see it. I think the only problem teddie has are some of the "lower" tier characters. But in those cases you could just switch to aigis and shit on them.

I know that. I'm just saying he looks the best when he has someone good behind him. Devos normals are pretty trashy. Kakyoin is just too good.

Also, everyone is broken in hnk. Stop being boring!
 
It's not that MetaKnight has priority in most of his attacks - With the exception of Shuttle Loop (AKA the best move in the game) all his attacks are "transcendental", as in, they don't even interact with the opponent's moves. Shuttle Loop, the exception, has invincibility frames. MK is all around a train wreck.
 
I haven't been following the SF scene, but Oni is banned from tournaments???

When the DLC launched with him and Evil Ryu most people thought he wasn't all that good...what changed? Did Capcom buffed him?

Can someone point me to a good video of a well know player owning other players with him?
 
I still think Seth was mad bullshit just due to how much priority his moves had.

Similar to Iori in KOF. Forgot which he was the worst for that in though.
 
Sophitia/Cassandra/Xianghua in Soul Calibur 2 and 3.

They do FAR too much damage per hit, which is only exacerbated by the fact that they're very mobile characters with long combo strings. Xianghua is especially nasty.

the sisters remain good in SC4 and SC5 (pyhrra), the problem is that they are very safe characters but can also dish out very good damage. They are extremely hard to punish and has fuckton of TC moves.

SC3 is a broken game due to VC, everyone is OP in that game.
 
I think Ivan Ooze definitely wins. Gill too, and Super Turbo's Akuma. They're the kind of characters even a relative newcomer can use to defeat someone way more experienced.

Also, uh, Joe Bruiser in WCW vs NWO World Tour, haha. That horrible pop of bursting heads.

Someone might have to help me out here because the information on this game is scarce. This is Don Valve from Battle Fantasia. If I remember correctly Battle Fantasia had a handful of characters that were considered bannable in tournaments. Don Valve was one of those. He had super armour on one of his command grabs. Worst of all though, if you were a technically proficient player you can perform meaty command grabs which meant infinites.
 
nu-13 was most definitely not an OP character. The only reason she was even top tier was because she had good matchups against the actually broken characters. Against the middle/lower tier it was pretty even.
 
Flanders in Simpsons Wrestling was BullShit with capital BS. Nearly unavoidable lightning super and automatic resurrection when losing. He laughs at Phoenix.

Smithers was pretty ridiculous too but I forgot if he was playable or not.

Most of the cast in the initial version had something nasty and Donvalve was one of those. The majority of all the OP stuff has been fixed since in the NESiCA X Live version of the game though.

And Ashley & Watson were way more broken than Donvalve wishes he was.

Everyone who touches Street Fighter for the first time will tell you Dhalsim is cheap. You know, when jump-in sweep was your best combo.
