So is this game 1080p or is the pcsx2 version still going to look better because of the better image quality.

I don't think the PCSX2 version will look better at all. This remaster is upgrading textures on just about everything. Have a look at some of the comparisons that have already been made in this thread and you can see that the new version has been improved a lot

Most ports don't add touch-screen functionality because most studios making them know most Vita owners think that functionality is annoying in games that don't need it.

How is menu selection with touchscreen functionality an annoyance? I can't understand how having the ability to either use buttons OR the touchscreen is annoying in an rpg? Would you care to elaborate on what annoys you so my mind could be blown?

Urgh, seeing them side by side, new Yuna looks much older.

That's annoyed me because Yuna is supposed to be a trusting, naïve young girl.

Her old face makes her look more innocent.

Vita isn't like the Nintendo's handhelds. Everything on it's face is a bit closer together, so it's easy to touch the screen on accident.

Sorry still not understanding your qualms with touchscreen input for menu driven selections. So a larger screen with a sharper resolution is causing you to hit selections incorrectly? Furthermore why would you want to scroll through menu options when you could freaking move your finger and press on items/status/ anything on the screen in an instant?

You just don't understand them then.

I'm not lazy and this isn't an iPhone game. I have no issue scrolling through menus in this OT anything else.

I think you're reaching here. I've never heard of anybody having a problem with accidental touchscreen selections.

As long as touch-capable menus would be an addition rather than a replacement, I couldn't care less.

I kinda get it... its like in p4g, why can't I press the map on the bottom left to expand it? Instead I have to press possibly the worst placed and sized start button in all game consoles.

It is not an issue of lazy or scrolling, why port to a device that has a superior, more direct input method for selection and not use it, especially in P4Golden, holy piss that was a missed opportunity, seriously for advancing dialogue too...

I understand the thought you are trying to convey, but it literally makes 0 sense to me how it could be an annoyance in a jrpg where there is no wild action or movements to accidentally select something? I know it is just an argument over opinion on the Internet, but your opinion seems to be based in a reality where everyone has sausage fingers and is chowing down on greasy food that all hell is breaking loose on that Oled.

LOL, I think touch controls are annoying. It's nothing earth shattering. Was glad they weren't in P4G too, for the most part :P

You said it yourself: opinions on the Internet.

You can definitely see more detail in the clothes and you can notice the difference in the character models.

Those are looking good indeed. Just now noticed how much better the skybox textures are. Of all the low-res textures in FFX, the sky/clouds would often stick out as the ones most needing improvement.

Good improvement on the clothes, too. Doesn't look like they even tried to put a zipper on Tidus's arm in the original game. Both characters' hair looks a lot better too.

This thread was okay for a while. But all it takes is one person to inadvertently compare something in one game negatively in regards to another. I'd say 6, 7 and 9 are usually the culprits for whatever reason.

Can't really expect much else from FF fan's in their fanaticism passion though.
All FF threads longer than 10 posts inevitably at least dip into that for a while. The temptation is too great, and the games are too different, and people's tastes/likes/appreciations have a huge range. It's gonna happen.

(Why'd you strike out "fanaticism"? "Fanatic" is where the word "fan" came from...)

So, I was thinking about how much I enjoyed FFX's overdrive system. It was lots of fun; they had different kinds of QTEs, different ways to charge them, they were pretty varied (last overdrive isn't always the best for every occasion), and you could save them for when you needed them.

The only negative I could think of was that they made it pretty easy to cheese a boss by saving and blowing all of your overdrives on them in one giant 10min cutscene. Sure, you had the option of not doing so, but I wish the devs would have done something about this.

What do you guys think about it? Feel free to compare to other FFs as long as it doesn't devolve into another war.

The Overdrive system was smart, and the significant turn delay was a smart way to balance it, but the game's ultimately too easy. It works really well against tougher optional bosses, or even against regular ones if you're under leveled.

And yeah, it's not a good thing at all that the game makes it so easy to cheese bosses that way. It makes it sort of a problem when you suddenly reach bosses for which that no longer really works because they have too much HP, or too many bosses in quick succession so you don't have enough Overdrive unless you deliberately grind for it. The fact that both of these things happen more or less simultaneously is why people reach a perceptual difficulty spike somewhere around Mt. Gagazet/Zanarkand.

Rehosted the new ones

Yuna looks so empty/dead in this screenshot.
The one thing I'm worried about is how they handle the animation with the new models.
I like how the low tier models were updated but haven't been impress with the shots using the high quality cutscene models.
Please SE don't screw it up.

Why do so many people think the new models look lifeless? They're more detailed, IMO. Not trying to be combative, but I'd love to hear some elaboration on what looks "off" about them to some of you.

For me, it's eyes and the "default" expression that look lifeless in comparison. This could easily change when it's in motion, but so far I prefer the older (high quality ones mind you, cuz the low quality ones were so blahhh even during the PS2 era) models of Tidus and Yuna.

I've shown the comparison shots above of Yuna/Tidus to a few friends who played the game like me back in 2001. All of em: "Which one is the PS3 one?"

:(

I hope the visual upgrade isn't lost on people.

The models are more detailed. That's not really a matter of opinion. And they look great! But that doesn't stop them from looking lifeless.

It's the classic "uncanny valley" issue in that making models more detailed doesn't automatically equate to more believability. I'm glad they updated them and I don't wanna make a judgement until I see actual gameplay, but if the animation isn't up to snuff then yeah, they might throw people and come off as lifeless.

I don't think it's the uncanny valley thing. FFXIII's models are far more detailed than these revamped FFX models, but as much justified criticism as that game gets, I haven't seen anyone claim the models are dead-looking. I feel like it has to be something more specific.

Hmm, it could be something like this. Could you say what it is, specifically, about the eyes/expression?

I don't quite understand Yuna's new bang, myself. Why?

Honestly, I could go either way. The difference is not massive to me.

Blind people.

While there is an improvement in models, textures and the like. I don't believe it's as immediately apparant as the shot with Auron, Lule and Wakka. My sister got really excited at that comparison, but needed to go back and forth a few times with the Tidus and Yuna screen to fully comprehend the improvement.

I agree, especially when the resolution is similar. Most of the upgrades are in the small details, but your eyes aren't naturally drawn to those details in that shot.

It feels somewhat dull and the eyes seem more vacant. Even Wakka looks sorta indifferent. I dunno what it is but the default expressions of the older models said something about their normal disposition, while in the stills of the HD remaster I feel that has been somewhat neutered and there's just a feeling of indifference now. I can't really be specific enough because even I don't know exactly what it is that feels off, but that's what the end result of the changes look like to me.

I don't see the difference in Wakka's expression/eyes at all. Yuna is lacking the light in her eyes in the shot above, but it's also not the exact same expression (she's looking up in the original).

I think what we really need is to see the game in action. Once we have that I think we can all form 'better' opinions of how the game will be for us.

It's difficult to imagine how the cutscenes will be at this time but hopefully some footage can ease those that are unsure.

For me, I'm excited to see all of the little things that they are updating as well as the bigger things. When I get this on the Vita it's going to look incredible

I'm assuming they're not redoing the FMV with that weird difference in looks between characters compared to the in game engine. Did they ever explain why Yuna has two different colored eyes? Always so jarring to me even though I know there are people like that, I assumed there would be a plot reason behind it.

Shes half Al-Bhed.

It’s probably easiest when you compare both shots side by side.

Here is the FF X HD version:

And here is a shot from PCXS2:

The difference in Yuna’s eyes is readily apparent. In the PCXS2 version, her irises are a lighter blue, and you can tell she is looking up into the sky, and how I read it, with a look of the anticipation of her journey ahead.

Where with the FF X HD version, her eyes are darker, and she is looking straighter ahead and doesn’t have that appearance of looking forward to/anticipating things to come. She just actually looks like “Well, ok.”

This is just my opinion, of course. Hopefully it will look better in motion.

Differences are often not as big when comparing two small, non-HD screenshots on a computer screen, one of which is from an emulated version. But hook up the original PS2 version & the HD collection's version once it's released and the difference in image quality and everything will be massive.

Looks to me like their heads are in different positions in the two shots. Possibly looking at different frames captured.

I don't like graphics downgrade to fit Vita standards. Of course, some details look better (especially Lulu's breasts), but kinda shitty anyway. I hope it's not a final build.

I did my best to catch the video snapshot at the exact same time but it may be ever so slightly off. It looks pretty much right though. Yuna's eyes may have moved in that time if it is different which could explain that but I tried to make sure we could compare the detail in both shots

Yuna's face just seems flatter in the new version. It honestly looks like the older version had more polygons.

Her entire head is more tilted up in your shot. Notice the nose against the slope of the cheek.

Yeah I noticed it now that I've had another look at it.

Like I said, I think the main thing is that we can make a good comparison between the two in terms of changes to the character models
