There's no way this is an evolution. Thematically linked but separate Pokemon, maybe. A new forme, possibly. But there's no evidence that it's an evo at all.

Why do they need a game mechanic to introduce a new Pokemon? They can justify it through story. NPC dialogue, a Hidden Mansion 2.0, whatever.

This can easily be a new Pokemon.

You're missing my point. It replaces Mewtwo in the movie poster ergo it is Mewtwo or some offshoot of Mewtwo. If by some chance it's not a form, then it's something different

I don't know how accurate this is but it was posted on r/pokemon 4 hours before this show, and the "Mewtwo Y" turns out to look just like what was just announced. Might mean there's 1 more coming.

Man, I like it. I think this is a new form for Mewtwo where Mewtwo "unlocks/perfects" his powers so he can beat Genesect and stuff, not a new Mew clone.

Also, that gif really does show the great animation in the game's battles, very smooth!

On Topic, i was disappointed because we already knew but, design wise i kinda warmed to it... it's not overdesigned, the palette is simple and is a nice throwback. It looks little less experiment, little more levitating god. And well, mewtwo's design wasn't anything spectacular to begin with.

People have said it's focus blast, but I think it looks more fiery. I think it's a new fire move, a pyrokinetic fire move. Maybe it's a fire move that gets STAB from psychic types. Fennekin Fire/Psychic!

It's certainly an ugly pokemon.
