Actually, genwunner is a pretty nerdish insult resulting from yet another similar subgroup - Transformers. Back during the days of alt.fandom stuff, fans of the generation 1 Transformers hate Beast Wars and calls them "TRUKK NOT MUNKY". In turn Beast Wars fans call them "GEEWUNNERS".
And like I said I'm not defending either action, but there's definitely more people going all defensive for being "attacked" even though they were reasonably excused. I mean, you have people stating stuff like "they lost their appeal" or some shit like that.

Er... why did they even bother with a Pokémon no one cares about? After the First Movie we all moved on. It even told us to forget about him and forget him I did because he's such a forgettable Pokémon.
Now what would have been a good Pokémon evolution to show this weekend? Stunfisk's of course. Now there's a Pokémon everyone loves. I knew a guy who was such a diehard nostalgia freak that he didn't even dare enter jewellery shops because they contain gold and silver. Yep, if it wasn't blue, green, red or yellow he wanted nothing to do with it. Yet I showed him Stunfisk and he fell on his knees in tears. "Finally" he said, "Pokémon is good again" and he skipped to the local game emporium and bought a copy of Black 2. That is the power of Stunfisk.

The way it's used is what's childish. I also strongly doubt that pretty much anyone using the term actually knows where it came from, not that it makes the insult any better.
That isn't true at all and even if it was that isn't the same as attacking someone elses opinion.
I don't mean hostility as in people are getting angry or anything like that. There is no question that posters such as yourself are condescending towards people with a dissenting opinion. It stifles discussion and in general makes it annoying to even attempt to have a discussion about pokemon designs.

Yeah I'd really love a Stunfisk evo. Especially if it plays up its trolling attitude.
Assuming it originated from /v/ (prior to /vp/'s creation), a little bit of this and that.
And no one's attacking anybody. Like I said, it's just "this design sucks" -> "eh I disagree" -> "stop attacking!" And I doubt it'd be "dissenting" when the most common opinion is actually reverse.
Hey, me pointing out that the original Mewtwo, aka The Bits and Bobs King, wouldn't sit well with Gen 1 fans if it had released in later gens, isn't a condescending statement, it's true. Proof's in the poke-pudding -- here we have a design more streamlined than the original, the original having weird stubby protrusions and tubes in its neck and so on, and yet, people treat the new Mewtwo -- which has symmetrical claws, a truly sleek head, etc -- as though it's the inelegant one. Ah well, they'll warm up to it!

That isn't at all what is happening. In fact the post i initially responded to wasn't even aimed at any one poster in particular, he was just being a dick to anyone who happens to disagree with him.
Calling peoples opinions wrong or dumb or based on nothing but nostalgia isn't the same as just saying i disagree.There are examples of this on both sides btw and it's the combination of the 2 which turns the thread to shit whenever the quality of the designs are brought up.
That is a completely subjective opinion and assuming yours is the correct one is incredibly condescending. Adding in childish insults to your post like 'genwunner' doesn't make it look any better either.

Yep, differing opinions on Pokémon designs and whether we take each other's viewpoints on them seriously is insulting alright. I never used the "genwunner" term or whatever either, btw. Anyways, MAN, our new Mewtwo overlord is so awesome.

No you used the 'gen 1 forever crowd' which basically means the same thing. The topic of the discussion doesn't matter, you're still dismissing peoples opinions and assuming that yours is correct. It makes it difficult to actually have a differing opinion and it's why these sorts of threads always end up with the same stupid arguments.
Oh, pardon my accent! 'Tis the accent of well-bred, educated folk whose impeccable taste is without equal in the Pokémon world. It's kind of like how British noblemen have a certain manner of speech. As I sit here sharing the scientific fact of the new Mewtwo's superiority, I sometimes forget to water down my manner of speaking for the common folk, the peasants mired in the mud of Gen 1 preferences. "Pokémon" it is, then.

You were accusing people of insulting each other. You were upset. But I was just trying to make a point, so no hard feelings.
The reality is, no one's insulting anyone. Look at it from the POV of the people who actually like the new characters: When so many people swear by Gen 1, glance at a new design and say things like, "I literally just gagged" (actual quote from this thread, lol), and yet Gen 1 has such fine specimens as Magnemite... and Diglett... and Voltorb... this kneejerk reaction becomes one hard to take seriously. And so it seemed natural, the speculative bit about "what if the two Mewtwos swapped gens -- how would they be received then?" That's all. I really do suspect that had the new Mewtwo come first, a good number of its current detractors would flip their position. Reason being, many of them are inconsistent in what they consider good design.
I'm not saying you're that way, though. Just generalizing a certain group. And hey, if they want to feel that way, nothing wrong with that. People will like what they like. At the end of the day, we're all united in our love of Pokémon.

It has to be understood, though, that Pokemon threads on this forum and on forums like it have a long and storied history of people who haven't touched the games in over a decade coming in and pontificating about how every single aspect of Pokemon is markedly inferior nowadays than it was when they were playing. It's hardly a surprise that relentless irritation like that radicalises people.

Dos) There a bunch of things changed mechanically, in gen 4. And to use your own analogy gen 2 was exactly the same thing just with two new types. I don't see how it topped anything, it just introduced something. I understand If you feel some sort of nostalgia because of it. But it doesn't make It better than anything. Pokemon has never greatly changed just introduced new elements, that's it. I would argue that Pokemon didnt get good until gen3 , because it was not such an archaic mess and everything was streamlined. They did that again in gen 5.
