Ignore the fact the game itself looks absolutely gorgeous and there's always a bunch of Pokemon people don't like each generation.

Mewtant, Mewthree, Mewtumor or whatever looks pretty cool and not much different from what Game Freak has been doing since Gen 3.

Now, if this thing had a bunch of spikes and stripes on it like most Gen 4 Pokemon then I'd be upset.

Dos) There a bunch of things changed mechanically, in gen 4. And to use your own analogy gen 2 was exactly the same thing just with two new types. I don't see how it topped anything, it just introduced something. I understand If you feel some sort of nostalgia because of it. But it doesn't make It better than anything. Pokemon has never greatly changed just introduced new elements, that's it. I would argue that Pokemon didnt get good until gen3 , because it was not such an archaic mess and everything was streamlined. They did that again in gen 5.

It was the sequel to the big hit Pokémon with big ass legendary pokemon PLUS three lesser ones (the three dogs).

You can argue this nostalgia business all you want but it's pretty known and obvious that the series peeked at Gold and Silver.

You can argue that the games need to change things up more between iterations but it's hard to argue that the original 2 games are actually the best. There have just been so many improvements since then.

You mean the after game, which every game after that has. Where you beat a bunch of other people. It doesn't make it special that you fight red, red isn't that special.B..bu he was first, and? Then the other gens have plenty of legendaries. A lot of them much better than any of the ones in that region. And that statement is not widely known, ya know why, because Pokemon still makes ass loads of money.

I am not even going to go how the "story" with the "team" was non existent, you were basically rummaging through the remnants of red left of team rocket , nothing really threatening. As apposed to gens 3-5 where you got to be an effing hero, especially in 5 where they start throwing life questions at your ass.

I don't mind you liking 2, however I see no legitimate reason to say the series peaked there, maybe you just weren't a kid anymore.
 
Urgh, I don't like that Mew thing one bit. It feels like it's trying too hard to be cute like Mew and cool like Mewtwo. Maybe it's just the big rounded eyes that puts me off.

Footage still looks great imo! Very cool to see them doing attacks and showing pain, regardless of Stadium onwards presenting this.
 
It was really hard to swallow Diamond when my DS screen refreshed like crazy and I had to HM slave some poor poke bastard while beating the gym leaders for...the 4th time?

It was just too much for me at this point so I let go of the series and played superior games like Phoenix Wright. /smug
 
I figure it's all well and good to like GSC (Crystal is my favourite game in the series) but to like Gold and Silver and condemn HeartGold and SoulSilver is pretty stupid.

There's an embarassing amount of content in HGSS, especially considering how bad Kanto was back then.
 
If I may, may favorite protagonists are gen 4 and 5's protags because someone decided to not dress them like idiots and good clothes on them.

Oh, of course the remakes are better. I was more comparing them as generation instead of the games themselves.

Gen IV's are ridiculous. Lucas' hat is so dumb.

BW1 easily have the best protagonists, imo. Well, besides RBY/FRLG. And I miss how good the trainer art was for GSC.

That picture always throws me off because Noctowl is MUCH, MUCH larger than he is in that picture.

For me, the journey, region, Pokemon selection and overall story have never been worse than they were in Gold and Silver.

I'd argue that Gen IV was the most tedious, but your points about Gen II are something I'd agree with entirely. It was simply much too easy.

I guess they had to make it easy, 16 gyms.
Its something I would like them to attempt again though.

Also red was easy as PokeBalls in both versions, it was worse in HG And SS
 
The thing I like about this new Mewthing is that it is just as simple as the first gen Pokémon, no fancy details or decals, just two colours without a special pattern or something. While the new box legendaries look cool they are exactly the thing I mean. Way too much detail that disturbs the overall natural look of them being Pokémon. Too much jeweleries, tribals, colours, patterns. For example take charizard and compare it to the gen5 starter. Thats whats wrong with the new design of the pokémon.

They're my favourite legendaries so far, especially Xerneas.
I'm also digging Newtwo. In fact, there's yet a Gen VI 'mon that I don't like except Sylveon.
Also, DAYUM at those battle screens! Really looking forward to seeing more of what these games have to offer.

Why not ruin an already shitty looking pokemon, and not one of the coolest and most original designs.

My hope for good pokemon designs in this gen is already shattered
 
This makes a lot of sense considering ditto is believed to be a failed attempts of creating a new clone it is over likely that before they came to the perfect clone the legendary Mew two there was possibly another attempt that was much closer

Come now, designs are just as good, and bad, as they were at the beginning. They just have a bit more detail possible because they're not working on an 8-bit monochrome console anymore

Nah, I think they're pretty weird and overdesigned. The sprites on the Gameboy didn't really match the artwork much anyway, so that disconnect with the hardware doesn't matter much.

And whether for better or worse, they are more creative than earlier 'mons. I agree they took it too far on some aspects, like Garchomp, but I'd rather use an over designed sand shark than, quite literally, a seal.
There are good and bad Poke's in each gen. Some people need to stop acting like every one from Gen I and II > everything after. Unless they really think something like Exeggcute is cooler than Torterra.
 
The in-game battles look great. So much charm compared to the old static sprites.

This title might be the one to get me back into the series.

If you break down what I'm saying without the nostalgia trigger word, all it is is that your taste is influenced by your upbringing. Is this false?

Would you argue that the person you are today and all of the values you possess are completely independent from the experiences you've had in the X number of years you've lived? This is naive. You can't escape from your past; it makes you whom you are, in every facet of your being.

I think it's hilarious when people try to deny nostalgia affecting them, as it affects every human being on this planet. They should accept and embrace it.

I love the fact they are going for a different look between the pair, which we haven't truly seen since gen 3.
 
I am indifferent to his new Mewtwo forme and new Pokémon designs overall. It's the consequence of a franchise that has one of it's maintaining pillars an ever increasing number of "characters". Personally, I find the new artwork style from Ken Sugimori bland as hell, but it's doesn't bother me so much.

I just hope that this means an actual plot relevancy in the gamse for Mewtwo. Gamefreak missed a hell of a chance to make Mewtwo a plot point in the Fired Red/Leaf Green remakes (Take a page of the anime and make his creation secretly funded by Team Rocket). I'll be pissed if Newtwo is an event like Genosect in B/W.

That said, I hope we get new formes for already established Pokémon and different evolutionary branchs. I love the idea of Pokémon getting alternate evolutions caused by item holding and environment changes.
