Cena is not Stone Cold.

Obviously. My point being, the WWE hates failed heel turns. They just don't like it. If they turn Cena they are going to lose merch sales. The last several years they haven't been good at doing heel turns anyway. They'd overdo it with Cena, just like they did with Austin. They'd have him beat on women because they feel like that's what they would have to do to turn him.

Sure the "smart" fans want him to turn, but it's not like the guy will be the "heel you love to hate". People just outright hate Cena. They can't stand him. What would they gain by turning him heel? You think in a month's time people will say "Hey I like the new Cena, I am gonna by his "U Can't C Me" shirt now! They'd have to completely change his character and they aren't comfortable doing it.

Too many risk factors for a heel turn:

-Loss of sales
-Backlash from fans (parents, women)
-Loss of their #1 whore for family friendly events and public appearances
-No one to take his image as a clean shaven, bring home to mama face

See my whole feeling on it is McMahon doesn't care about loss of sales or any of that. If WWE was truely wanting to make boat loads of money WTF are they doing going back to PG? Say what you will but the Attitude era was the most profitable era in wrestling, so if they are worried about sales then they never should have gone away from that.

This is probably karma for getting such an awesome, unexpected title win from another promotion that's gotten as stale as WWE normally

I guess it's worth that exchange.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the popularity. It just isn't as popular as it was during the attitude area, and cable ratings indicate that. I mean, don't get me wrong WWE does well for itself but part of that are it's other endeavors (movies for example).

I read an article about it like a year ago. WWE makes a fortune from Cena alone. I am under the assumption it is too much to risk losing to a heel turn that caters to only a portion of the fan base.

I've kind of felt like merchandise sales isn't what's stopping Vince from turning Cena heel more than it'd be Vince admitting that he was wrong in how he chose to book Cena with the majority hating him.

Yea, Cena is the most popular draw at House shows which are a big part of the income.

It isn't as popular because they went away from what made them red hot in the late 90's/early 00's!

Doesn't even have to be Japan. Bully Ray's heel character is FAR more interesting than this.

That's right, Bubba Ray is a more interesting reason to watch a show than the clods WWE gives the titles to.

Sure and TNA is definitely a much better product than the WWE right now but New Japan's still so much better, it's not even funny.

lol i still can't believe that the main event was worse than the match they had a year earlier, and that match was already bad. they put zero effort into making this memorable. even the post stuff was fucking meh. some passing the torch that was

The attitude era wouldn't work anymore. 10-15 years ago teens and twenty something's could be talked into thinking wrestling was cool by throwing in some curse words and edgy story lines. That's not happening today. Teens these days won't think "suck it" is cool. They've been getting blowjobs since 4th grade.

The Punk heel title run was the best thing WWE has done in years.
Also the most boring.
Yeah it has. Debating this with someone who doesn't like Punk at all is pointless though.
I liked Punk until his title reign became boring. Maybe if the booking was better he could've had some memorable matches, but I can't remember any of them besides a D.Brine match he had that had more to do with AJ than the title.

Team Face!
So Im curious how things came off on the show. Did Swagger get a proper intro or did it start with him in the ring? Was odd, he just snuck down the ramp with no fanfare.
Also was the elimination of the mixed tag explained?
He rode to the ring in the buggy but his music didn't play. It segues into the video promo.

I was in the nose bleed seats and I feel like all of the results were predictable and safe except for the Shield/WWE and Henry/Ryback matches. They were head scratchers.

Poor Ziggles. And the Funk/Rhodes Scholar match was cut.

They said the same thing around 1990-1996. People thought it was cool in the 80's and it would never get that big again. I don't buy it.

Don't concentrate on Cena, that was always going to happen.

Now a Big Show heel turn? That throws up a lot of exciting possibilities.

Punk is far better than anything else in wrestling today BAR NONE.

That's because the attitude era was fresh back then. Wrestling was Saturday morning cartoon status in those days. It was a completely new angle.

Gotta agree that from a business standpoint, it probably doesn't make much sense for the WWE to turn Cena heel. They also have to answer to investors who will wonder why they turned their cash cow. Cena is a necessary evil for the WWE to continue making money and to do all of their humanitarian outreach programs.
