I've shown the comparison shots above of Yuna/Tidus to a few friends who played the game like me back in 2001. All of em: "Which one is the PS3 one?"

:(

I hope the visual upgrade isn't lost on people.

Show them this one next time. Much better for comparison purposes.

Or better yet, here's some .gifs I just made, trying to line up the characters as much as possible with the original shot (the PS2 shot was kind of stretchy):
YltN0CC.gif
N9dVamI.gif

(I tried doing one for Auron as well but he's a bit far away in that shot. The effect is kind of diminished for him.)

The high poly faces weren't that terrible to begin with, it was the animation that really dated them. Plus they weren't used anywhere near as often as the low poly models.

Hmmm, I'm liking how the character models look now, they really did a good job on Lulu, shame I'll hardly use her. Game just needs to come out already.

It's weird. Now I see the differences (obviously), but they don't really add anything to the character to me. No extra notable details or emotion -- it looks to be one of those things you'd have to directly compare to even care about.

That being said, I assume the environments being upgraded is the best bit.

It's kinda strange because I remember FFX looking like the new updated graphics from memory. What do they call that? Relativity?

Rose tinted glasses. We remember most games looking better than they actually did. For people not on the Internet looking at screenshot comparisons, yeah, I can see there bring a lot of "Eh? Didn't it always look like this?"

Which I don't really see as a problem since I think the games biggest asset in terms of looks is it's art direction.

No, that definition isn't right. That suggests that I don't see what's wrong with the original picture or never have.

What I'm trying to say is that FFX looked amazing for a game of it's time, and now that technology has increased (by a lot since then), it's the only reason why it doesn't look impressive anymore.

TBH FFXHD (I am definitely buying X-2 for the Vita btw) -- just looks like a texture patch or something like the ones for Deus Ex 2. But this is a bit different since it looks like they're also improving the geometry (Lulu's breasts for example)... I kinda wish they put their effort into trying to bring out more emotion from their faces though -- they look flat and lifeless in the same way as the original now.

Redoing animation/mocap would take so much work.

They wouldn't need to change too much, though. Most of the animation in FFX holds up well, but things like the much-touted (at the time) facial animations ended up leaving a lot to be desired. That, I think, is one of the big reasons why the laughing scene got as much heat as it did - there was just something off about Tidus/Yuna's faces during their forced laughter. If they give things like that a small touchup (at least to the level of FF12's facial rigs), they'll be good to go in that department.

Final Fantasy X remake was a surprise when it was announced. Recently Square-Enix stated that not only Final Fantasy X will be remake in Sony platforms, Final Fantasy X-2 will be there too. Both games will come in one disc for PS3 and they will come in separate SKU’s for Vita.

One source told us that there was a surprise in the pricing information available for the PS3 version. It appears that both titles will feature additional content as DLC.

  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD retail disc – $39.99 (Already known because it is listed in Amazon lists)
  • Final Fantasy X International Additions – $4.99
  • Final Fantasy X-2 International Additions – $4.99
  • Final Fantasy X-2 Last Mission – $2.99*
  • *Requires the purchase of Final Fantasy X-2 International Additions

At this moment we don’t know if Vita version will feature the same DLC packages but it is very possible that it will have the same contents available at launch.

Considering that the international content was announced already (with no mention of DLC) I doubt this is accurate. Last Mission being DLC though..... well, I still doubt it.

That just sounds just Square-ish enough to be believable... ordinarily... but it would be weird for them to tout the game as having the International editions, and then make those something you have to buy later. Seems slimy, even for them.

Let's not forget the massive DLC test that XIII-2 was.

Perhaps it was so profitable for them that they're going to now chop out sections of X/X-2 and sell it back to us...

and we'll buy it

Well they're going to get all my money, but I hope this isn't true. I hate to see Square go down this path. It's one thing to sell bits of questionable DLC like it seems all RPGs are doing these days....but to sell pieces of the game that most believe should be included for free?

I hope not, but then again it will give me a chance to do everything before i meet up with the super bosses.
No it won't, because you'd be working on a totally different Sphere Grid. They'd probably make you start a new game to get access to the Dark Aeons.

Further reasons why this doesn't pass the logic test. I don't think it's happening.

The only place I could ever see additional DLC working would be in each game's arena mode (Monster Arena and Shinra's Coliseum). The logistics of altering the full end-to-end experience of the game with all the International changes doesn't make sense, though.

Last Mission could feasibly be DLC, but the rest is just total rubbish. This is one of those rumors that becomes less true the more you think about it.

A likelier scenario: because the drip-feed of screenshots/info has been turned off for more than a week, someone made up a stupid rumor just to get a rise out of Square and force them to respond, ideally in a way that revealed something new. Withdrawal at its most pathetic.

Not to say Square hasn't done some utterly asinine things as far as DLC/microtransactions are concerned (Final Fantasy All The Bravest, anyone?). But as capable as they are of pulling something like this, it's still extremely difficult to take seriously. DLC for a remastered game, especially consisting of content PAL releases already had in 2002, is so parodic it sounds like something from the Onion.

False rumor, this was answered in the blog comments when the game was announced on the ps blog.

No biggie if its Last Mission. That I would buy. But won't if they are trying to sell the international content, when they pretty much already said its releasing those versions.

I don't even think it's OK for LM. Femmeworth said it earlier in the thread, but it bears repeating today: include it or don't.

LM makes sense because it would at least require some extra effort.

LM was on the disc for X-2: International when the game came out ten years out. It's no different from anything else. It's the removal of content and if they sell it later it'll be a gross move.

Her skin is much too light to be Okinawan. I think she looks like a mainland Japanese person. Tidus looks more Okinawan, really.

There are still some pretty light people from Okinawa. Nakama Yukie and Shimabukuro Hiroko immediately come to mind.

X-2 is going to take more effort, no matter what. There was never an English release of it, like X: International, so all the International content in X-2 is going to have to be localized.

Were there any new voiced cutscenes in X-2 International?
