I don't really wan't to get involved with the arguments just want say that I'm #TeamFeng all the way. All my other votes are secondary. As far as predicting a Top 8 I can't even begin to guess who will make the cut.
I like Eliza, but she has the makings of a major antagonist best served by a sequel where her long life and plotting can truly shine, along with annie, who's been around almost as long, and the deity sisters - to expand the current game with limited choices, I turn elsewhere.
I don't give a shit about Cody in the slightest and if they actually changed her attire to dissuade the comparison that would be even better, but a hulkin'-ass Dhalsim-reach woman who can fling around bodies is awesome.
I dislike Cody's jailbird look, and when I first saw Scythana i sort of eye-rolled at it: "oh, look, they're pushing another character to add later, and they're shooting themselves in the foot with that uneven horn in a 2D game to boot."
But her gameplay description totally makes up for it - the game needs someone who relies more on few well-placed long ranged normals, since projectiles, long combos and throws already have decent representatives. A more brutal and blunt style is just the icing on the cake.

I'm not going to speak for anyone else, but the reasons that Annie appeal to me are clear. I don't just want a 'little girl character' and yeah, if I did, I might be more inclined to vote for Umbrella or Marie. But Annie has a lot that puts her firmly in her own level. Especially since there's a very deliberate disconnect between her appearance, and her demeanor and conduct - that much should become obvious when the likes of Guts or Sol Badguy are sitting in her list of inspirations alongside Precures and Platinum Trinity. Imagine a Precure henshin executed with the ferocity of Guts, and you get a solid impression on what she might look like in motion. It says as much in the character sheet.
Then there's the vast swath of potential you get out of exploring her galaxy motif as channeled through magical girl sensibilities. Showers of shooting stars, summoning the forces of the galaxy, it's easy to imagine the level of visual spectacle and personality that Annie could conjure in an instant. It's a huge toybox of possibilities. And that's ignoring (as a lot of people seem to) what Sagan could add to that.
There's also the less mundane, but no less important fact that Annie has a godda-- goshdarn sword. Outside of Regina (who, let's face it, never had a shot), she's the only candidate for the roster (and in the roster) who has one. And that's kinda huge when you think about it.
She appeals in the three questions that they asked in the survey, she has appeal in visual personality and appearance, appeal (and familiarity) in gameplay, and appeal in how she fits into the larger Skullgirls mythos (in which she is already well grounded). It's why she's my favourite to win.
That expression coupled with the visual from the sword... Is that what Lab Zero is aiming for with Annie? If that's the case, my top 4 just got a hard juggle, especially with (re)reading Scythana's gameplay distinctions. (Kickboxer giant? FUCK YEA.)
