There really aren't enough BEU's for everyone's taste, especially not ones from such prolific developers.
But really, what's the point at getting agitated at people who are annoyed by certain traits of the art? It's what the artist drew, what the animators animated... like it or not, it's a part of the game.

Before anyone gets their hands on the game, all one can do is talk about gameplay perceptions and graphcs / art on hand. Both have actually happened in this thread already!
A great number of video games should not be played around kids. I have a wife and a 3 years old and the last game I played with them was Journey. I will play this game with my wife around for sure. She'll laugh at it, don't know if she'll want to try it though. The violence in some games is the only thing that really bothers her and it starts to rub a bit on me too. This, it will not.
As for the poor design choice, narrowing its target audience, that is a complete uncertainty. A more realistic or gender neutral art style could be better for you and a few others, but no one knows if it would result in a net gain of more users buying it. For all we know this art style is what is making this game have so much exposure and could result in an higher reach.
People look down on typical gamer nerds, not on handhelds per se. If anything, tablets made portables (who don't look like fisherprice toys) far more accessible.
It's getting it deemed 'inappropriate' by HR thanks to someone seeing it and saying, "That's obscene."
I really don't care if people think I'm 'childish' for playing a handheld at work, I just want to keep my job.

Game looks awesome and people who have a problem with it are giant sticks in the mud. If you don't like it, don't play it. It's a product of a foreign culture, anyways. Do you only play games to be PC and respect realistic female proportions? Give me a fucking break. People should understand that this most likely is not a kids game. Look at the rating (which iirc has not been decided yet) if you want to know what you can play in front of your kids and what you cannot.

Pre-release conversation is all pretty much just made of different shades of the same topics, though. Talking about the crazy of an artstyle here isn't much different than talking about the lazy of Flashback Reboot's artstyle, or the Sterility of New SMB's style.
I can understand the annoyance of the "not this again!" feel, but this game has given us very little to go on, pass it's visuals. It's not like we have hours of gameplay, control explanations, and commentary to go on. We have a dripfeed of character trailers.
If Atlus / Vanillaware wants to change the subjects at hand, they can always release more variety for us to talk about...

Personally I don't have a problem with big sorceress tits. They're pretty ridiculous and will probably make my wife's eyes roll, but I'm playing the Knight or the Dwarf anyway. Same way I played King of Dragons.
Honestly, the exaggerated style is nothing new. Take a look at the proportions of world of warcraft characters. Is there a reason to have a male human's hands be 3x the size of a female's? It's just stylistic choice. If it's not your choice then that's fine, and it isn't wrong to say the designs are mysogynistic (lol at people who don't know that there can be multiple meanings to a word even after getting linked to the fucking definition), but it doesn't stop this from being a day 1 purchase for me, not by a long shot.

man, i'll get this game. and i'll love it.. but i really don't like the size of her breasts and the other girl's Hugh Jass. im all for the sexiness wtc, but the proportions are really jarring aesthetically.

I don't get the constant use of "False outrage". All of us have a mother, many of us have sisters. Lets not even mention girlfriends or wives. That's not enough relation to say "I wouldn't want to see a woman close to me, portrayed in such a way"?
I find this desire to deflect discussion of the art style to be kind of comical. Even those who do not like Vanillaware's gameplay ALWAYS talk about it's art. It's the strongest thing about the company. So Praise and repeat-posting of Muramasa gifs are ok, but speaking of dislike of an element of the styles presented isn't?
I'm sure people will be talking on and on about the gameplay, as soon as a "Let's Play!" or "20 minutes of Dragon's Crown!" or some such comes out. Until then, yeah, people are going to talk about the most attention-getting features. Just like the animators and artist spent some of their most time getting those things to work and move as they do.

While I do feel that this issue is being overblown, the presence or lack of presence of upset females shouldn't matter. A guy can provide an equally valid critique of sexism, regardless of his gender. So the presence of outrage girls doesn't validate a game's sexism, just as much as the presence of not-outraged girls doesn't invalidate it.
I feel like part of this art style is completely exaggerating a certain type of character. So yes, the Sorceress has huge boobs and long ass legs because she is supposed to be a sexy character. Just like how the Dwarf has pulsing muscles because he is supposed to be a ripped badass dwarf. Just like how the Amazon is freaking huge and muscular because she is supposed to be a giant.

I think they are confusing vanillaware's unusual ball-and-socket animation style with how odd rotoscoping can look.
Of course you are free to dislike the art style.
But when people are throwing around words like 'misogyny' and 'exploitative', it starts to get ridiculous.
Every character in the game is a caricature and none of them have realistic proportions.
It's what they feel. Like I've mentioned before, I don't think that's Kamitani's intent. But he's making a game that'll get world release, and a world stage will get to judge it.
A style this strong deserves strong words in response to it, though. And I actually find it surprising at how minor some people think these elements are. The defense is brushing it aside like people are talking about hair animation, or eye color; the people aganist it are speaking about it as if it's an element of a trend they dislike.
What's just "business as usual!" for many artist themselves, means a lot more to the audience who recieves the products, I suppose. I often find this interesting; it's funny when art boils down to simple self expression for the artist, rather than a larger statement. What a person shares through illustration says a lot about them, and there's a part of me that always find that side of things very interesting...
When actual women comment on the state of women in video games, lots of people in neogaf get in a big huff.
Lots of people can't separate criticism on character design vs criticism on the overall game. This game looks awesome and I want to get it, but that doesn't mean I can't see the problems with the character designs.

The comparison to Muramasa is fairly interesting now that you bring it up. People were never that outraged by Muramasa, even though it ended up having way more sexist themes without having Dragon's Crown's big boobs. Even Play magazine's infamous Muramasa cover didn't generate as much outrage and talk as just this thread has.
Of course the answer is simply that "big boobs" are a much easier target of outrage while the more worrisome aspects of these games are too complicated for most posters to bother dealing with.
Its not misogynist, no. But it is exploitative, without question. However, you could make the argument that its equally exploitative, regardless of gender. Not sure how that would pan out, but its a legitimate argument one could propose.*

After checking the video, it looks like each spell has an accompanying spellbook color and letter next to the character data at the top.
Ice Jail has a purple book with the letter I on it.
Gravity has a purple book with the letter G on it.
Seems to be a bunch of spells categorized by type, as other spells had (what I assume to be) their first letter on books of varying colors.
Also seems to be a static number of casts/uses restrictions on certain, if not most spells
I dunno about fluff.
Those are some useful spells from the looks of them, overall. Seem to have a ton of utility.
Being able to airdash and cast mid air only makes it better.
Actually, makes me pretty excited to see the other character expositions as well.
We probably knew a lot more about the game's gameplay, too, by that point. So even though the allusion to a famous Ukyo-e paining was interesting, we had other things to speak about!
As far as after the game was out... much like this game, styles and designs settle in then, and the only thing one cares to talk about tends up being gameplay related, and even at that, those things are normally mentioned by acceptingalready- fans.
In a way, I think it boils down to animation. The boobs aren't just attention-getting because they're large for her frame; it's also because of how much emphasis has been put on their motion, reaction, and significance. For Kamitani, I'm sure Expanding Man-thighs and Skin that's so chisled it transforms into ROCK while he breaths is just about equal in expression... to the average viewer? Naaaa...
I'd bet on either the Elf, or Dwarf. They probably want to avoid putting 2 women, or 2 mages, in a row.
