You place a bomb where it'll do the most damage (lots of casualties). A marathon is a pretty big target.

Not speculating on who did it, however it is a very soft target since there are people everywhere, bags everywhere, a lot of chaos at a Marathon even without a terrorist attack.

Because its Patriots Day up there, which means No school, lots of people off from work, everyone at the Marathon watching... if someone was looking to cause mass casualties, today would be the day to do it...
Large group of people, seems like an international event, somewhat newsworthy so lots of eyes will be on it. The reasoning for the attack, who knows.

We've already seen and heard two different accounts, one guarded in a hospital and one guarded next to a white van wearing a baseball cap. In these type of situations, the police will naturally detain anyone they find to be suspicious regardless of whether or not they are actually involved.
The Saudi rumour is curious though. Unless he was carrying his passport, how could anyone know of his nationality so quickly

Without meaning to alert the self-appointed "shithead" police, what exactly should this thread be about? Reposting debunked tweets and news articles? If all you want are the facts, just refresh the boston police website. Everything else is going to involve, to some degree or another, speculation. Speculation on whether something happened, who did it, why they did it etc. That's part of the story, and as long as everyone knows it's speculation, I don't see why it's a problem. This is, afterall, a discussion forum, not an RSS feed.

Also mentioned that the explosives might have been inside some sort of metal container, and the pressure release of the explosion fractured the metal outwards (i.e. Pipe Bomb)

Incendiary or fire, he said they don't know yet and will not include it as part of the bombing until further investigation.

It actually wouldn't be surprising if the Boston PD actually did have someone and were downplaying the report until they can actually confirm that the suspect actually had some kind of connection.
I mean if you say "yeah we have someone" without any sort of backing, the speculation is going to be out of control. Might as well tame it while you can.
People don't have a good grasp on the fact that terrorism can come from anywhere. So there is a specific connotation with that word here. Generally anything to cause fear is terrorism.
