Its big news to me because...
I've never played Earthbound. I had a chance to buy the game when it first came out in America a long time ago and... I never bought it. I was thinking about getting it through eBay or Craigslist or something but several of the copies were selling over $150. Just for the cartridge. Could I just download a ROM and be done with it? Sure, but fuck that. I was going to take my chances saving the money for a cartridge or hoping Nintendo would release the title on the eShop.
I'm just really happy for the starmen community and the Earthbound fanbase. Besides your usual Nintendo big fanbases like Mario, Zelda, Metroid and etc, a lot of the time I'd be browsing on the net and look at all these Earthbound sites (especially starmen.net) and see how rapid, loyal, insane and all nice words I can manage in my limited vocabulary... that fanbase is amazing. Just amazing. So to see that fan base rewarded is just so cool.
And the big take away from this is that Nintendo listened on Miiverse. And why I'm happy about that is because once Earthbound releases this year and the Earthbound fan base buys the game again... so will new comers to the series like myself. Just reading the stories I've read over the years about the game, and its localisation and how its never sold all that much and how Earthbound Zero is a thing and Mother 3 was also never released here in the West... I just can't wait to see all these fan bases scream as loudly as possible to see more Earthbound play in the West. I sure hope they scream loud anyway! Make Nintendo listen more and actually give in to the fans and give 'em what they want.
I'm just super ecstatic about the news. More so because of the future consequences this brings.
