Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is part 3D platformer and part first person shooter, and quite good. Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, which will hopefully be out soon, also has a lot of (good) 3D platforming, even if there's also tower defense and much shooting.

I see, well platformers specifically in 3d are my favorite genre of games. i mean i obtained a 3ds just for 3d land so i'll be sure to check out the games you listed and see if they are for me.

So a few hours in into Persona 4 I would like to buy the sountrack. Anyone knows if it is available digitally? Saw the cd in amazon for like 50 bucks...

It has platforming but I don't know if I would consider Stranger's Wrath a platformer (maybe I haven't gotten far enough yet)

It's been a while since I played it, but, yeah I was going for the outliers after the obvious choices - Sly and Tearaway (and Jak and Daxter should it be confirmed) had been mentioned.

Is there an obvious way to tell if an opponent is completely on fire? If so, I haven't seen it happen yet.

Apart from having the flames completely cover them, I'm pretty sure it's a stun as well. If they stop doing anything, it might be time.

One thing I'm unsure about is if elements cancel eachother out. I was really frustrated when I went into an online MP Harpy fight, started whaling on it with fire..only to see one of my teammates using ice!

One of my favorite gaming experiences this gen was from a game from last gen!

Really wish I could roll back to 2.06. System has been crashing and hanging at the lock screen far too often.

yeah i bought that overpriced skin.

the vinyl feel made less slippery, and touchpad is working well with the back skin on it.

not sure why they have a skin part for the freaking screen tho.

How much were the analog covers. The ones I've found are $10+

Edit-

Anyone have the ones from Decal Girl? I'm thinking about getting one with Matte Finish

I'm just not feeling the Soul Sacrifice demo. I've played a couple versions of Monster Hunter and Ragnarok Odyssey and Soul Sacrifice does feel different but i'm just not into any of them and I really regret getting RO digital at full price. I have Strangers Wrath and Guacamelee now both haven't even booted up yet and EDF somewhat played and Atelier Totori only played like an hour or so I think i'm going to hold off on SS, stop these impulse/feel like I have to join the crowd buys and actually play and beat the games i've already bought.

which's the same reason i passed on edf & atelier totori (did just pre-order soul sacrifice, tho :) )...

The PSM developers should know by now that the way to go is be a Vita developer. I'm still waiting for trophy version of Aqua Kitty and Haunt the House.

PSM is definitely a mess. Vita owners don't want PSM games because they have bigger and better native Vita games, and Android owners don't want them because they have a much bigger (and usually cheaper) selection of mobile games on the Google Play store. Sony hiding PSM away doesn't help.

At least I can play Super Crate Box, I guess.

I don't personally see the point of them. Why would someone who bought a dedicated gaming handheld care about shitty phone-quality games?

While I agree that that is the current situation of PSM, just imagine having Iphone-type ports of the Ace Attorney games for example. Maybe sony could put it's 2D java phone God of War on there too, it has potential: just it hasn't and may never be utilised properly.

I can see Toto doing a dance after reading that.

Regarding the translations for each store that was mentioned in the article, I don't think they really hinder developers. Sony doesn't look at them. The german text for Pinky Spots is hilarious and obviously google translated.

As for PSM overall, I don't get Sony's obsession with soft launches. They take away all the momentum. Having it in only some countries with a beta release surely didn't help the platform. Same with the number of supported devices.

Yup that is why they should be doing it. All the Visual Novels have really terrible English store text which is obviously machine translated.

It's not the quality of the translation, it's just having a translation in general. There are PSM games that haven't been released in Canada (one of the largest markets) because there wasn't a French store description.

I get it. The article made it sound like that would be a problem for developers because they need to translate their description.
But because they accept shitty translations it shouldn't be that hard for developers. Surely they were made aware of this requirement somewhere in the sdk.

But looking at it from another angle - how much should they sell? I guess we're maybe 70% through the released list so far (I think there are 15 left we haven't reviewed), and the quality is pretty awful. Most of the managed stuff is decent, I guess, but the non-managed stuff is simply dreadful in most cases.

I used to joke that PS Mobile games are like the games that you would type in from magazines in the old days - Compute, Ahoy!, and so on. I thought I was being hyperbolic, then Snake! got released.

I don't think it's just me, either. We had three more reviewers lined up for PS Mobile games, and they flaked out, one flat out stating that he didn't want to play them anymore, much less review them.

Or that Toma guy that hangs out in this thread that loves Indie games. But not PS Mobile ones, apparently.

And to a certain extent, Sony has actually encouraged this low quality. One of the ways to get more games for PS Mobile was to hold week long game jams. But what type of quality are you going to get from a game that took a week to make? Or a month, if you factor in the time they get to polish it?

Sure, you might get some good ideas, but you will get half-finished, unpolished products

Toto will probably put me on blast for this...

But I was just playing Soul Sacrifice and I got to thinking... it kind of reminds me of Folklore's combat in many ways. o_O

So if I were going to spend $40 on PSN tonight for a Vita game...

How is New Little Kings Story?
How is that Atelier Totori?

Any other suggestions?
Already have P4G and all the PS+ stuff.

New Little King's Story is recommended. There are performance issues such as slowdown if you're party is too big though.

NLKS is an great game. i loved it on the wii. been waiting to pick it up at the right time on vita. if your party is maxed with maybe 30? guys and your fighting there is slowdown i heard. but its barely an issue

NLKS is a good game if you don't mind the frame drops. They are very noticeable to me but thankfully don't effect the gameplay much. I prefer the gameplay in NLKS to the Atelier series being more of an RPG-RTS.

I haven't played Totori but I've played Rorona and came to realize that the alchemy stuff really isn't my thing. The Atelier games are well crafted and charming but they just aren't my cup of tea. If you enjoy item crafting and a (mostly) lighthearted story then you'd probably enjoy it.

to be honest though im sure many will disagree, I really dont think PSM is worth the effort atleast on the Vita front. I look at the games listed there and most of it is just stuff that does not look interesting to me at all, and atleast part of the reason is because there are already, and coming a nice amount of PSN games for the Vita, and PS3. Most of what I have looked at on PSM just seems to lack a level of quality that hinders my interest because many of them look like they were designed for phones( to my knowledge they are).

Even in the case of minis there was a larger amount of good quality stuff like Velocity, Zombie tycoon, Monsters stole my princess, etc, Where as allot of the stuff on PSM just does not look even decent. I would much rather they use that funding for full fleged PSN/Vita versions of indie games then games that are designed with phones in mind first, and formost.

Even with that being said I think PSMshould have been a big deal for Sony when it comes to their phones, and PS certified hardware designed for it.

speaking of which does anyone know who at Sony to contact on twitter to recommend indie titles that they should look at, I think some have been mentioned but I cant find them.

I think PSM will end up doing more harm than good when it comes to growing independent developer relationships.

Nobody wants to waste time on something that doesn't have an audience or pay off (Palm to WebOS, Windows Mobile to Windows Phone).

Oh, and Snake is a bad metric. Terrible game that wouldn't even find a place on the most podunk flash portal. Faerie Solitaire only having a few hundred sales on Android. THAT'S a tragedy.

I can see Toto doing a dance after reading that.

150 worldwide......

here
Yeah I played(just few hours) my friend import copy, game is good, fast pacing, helpful ai,combat system is very enjoyable and fluid (unlike the boring fest that was MonHun)and you are not completely screwed when you are alone,it also remind me of the Folklore summoning system, pretty good.
.

and to be more specific of Keats combat system.

*(Inafune stealing ideas from Okamoto is nothing new)*

but while they indeed got the idea from Folklore or let say inspired with it both games do it very differently, and Folklore is just a billion year better because it don't hold you or your attacks and let combine different kind of "summoning" attacks on the fly which SS don't do.

and by the way, they kinda "inspired"(lol) from Ellen twilight cloak and the book style menu and attack hud from Folklore too.

but it's ok for all the inferior developers out there to get stuff from Folkore the game of the generation,I don't mind.
