Am I? Or am I expecting people to think about the consequences for their actions?
The police and media rely on the public as an invaluable source; if misinformation is being spread by the public then they are in part responsible when it is reported and becomes pseudo-fact. This isn't either/or. Everyone fucked up here. I'm not willing to absolve Reddit, analysts or the media for their irresponsibility in this case because they've all behaved shamefully.
People have the right to discuss current news topics on a public internet forum and say whatever they want. That is in no way shameful. What is shameful is anyone taking anything concerning this investigation posted there seriously.
