Zeboyd asks for your opinion and announces Cthulhu Saves the World All-Stars

Comparison shots:

Never played these games, just wanted to say how great that looks. It's hard to update intentionally primitive graphics while maintaining the style, but that's a great example of how to do it right. It still has the chunky pixelated charm, but it looks so much nicer.

It mirrors the NES -> SNES jump almost perfectly.

I am very likely in the super minority here, but I actually would prefer the old style graphics. Its a good thing they add new graphics though, since its probably a rebuying incentive for quite a few people. Maybe they could keep both as an option for players? The instant graphics swap thing from the monkey island remakes was pretty neat.

Vita remake!! I always wanted to play it on iOS but the control scheme they put in place was faaaarked beyond a joke! Not sure if they ever changed it.

Control scheme? What was it? On screen buttons?

Control scheme? What was it? On screen buttons?

Yeah, I don't even mind on screen buttons it was their virtual dpad that was the killer. It just never did what I wanted it to.

I normally have no issue with virtual sticks btw, Mage Gauntlet controls like a dream but Cthulhu was horrific.

Hang on, maybe that was their intention!

Maybe the horror and confusion theme extended to the controls!!

Goddamn, clever devs..

Wouldn't it make sense to release the new game and then remake the other ones with the additions found in the latest release?

Wouldn't it make sense to release the new game and then remake the other ones with the additions found in the latest release?

Well, they mentioned to use the experience gained from the smaller projects for their bigger new release. It makes more sense to try the waters with a smaller game, doesnt it?

I would like to reiterate how I would like the inclusion of trophies. Since these are PSN (and not PSMobile), I assume they are required to have trophies, but still...

Either way, I will buy everything you put out to show my support...but trophies will actually get me to play through them again.

Trophies have been mandatory for every game since 2009 (except PS Mobile stuff), so that shouldn't even be a question anymore.

I'd prefer a new game, but I don't own a Vita so I'm a bit biased.

side note: anyone viewing this thread is probably already a fan of these games, but Cthulhu, Breath of Death, and Penny Arcade episode 3 are all 99 cents each right now on Steam. Super cheap for three quality games.

I own the games, but haven't played them on PC and I'd much prefer to play them on Vita so I vote for the remakes.

Damn. I actually own Cthulu, Breath of Death, and Rainslick 3 on Steam, but I'd vastly prefer Vita versions so I (or my wife) would actually play them then. About all I've done so far is start up Rainslick 3 to see what the intro is like. And yes, I'm one of the people who bought Rainslick 1 & 2 on PSN, and would like 3 & 4 on at least Vita, more so than the other games.

Wouldn't it make sense to release the new game and then remake the other ones with the additions found in the latest release?

well there are a couple reasons the ports make more sense the big one being it gets the experience to make the new game more likely to be made smoothly.

beyond that the new game was going to be at least a year from now if i recall right, I wouldn't be surprised if they could get the ports out later this year, which if they sell decently would lead to more funds to put towards their next game. They already talked about doing a kickstarter for their next game to try to make it the best game possible, so a little extra money from ports likely wouldn't be a bad thing.

finally, it will let them test the vita market with a smaller less risk project, while I think it will do decently, it's possible that it doesn't do well, which it would be better for them to have their ports fail on a platform than their biggest game to date to fail on a platform.

Just my 2 cents, but I have bought and haven't played Cthulhu on PC. I would re-buy the game on Vita and choose which system to play it on based on which graphics I prefer (and possibly trophies, but assuming those are not coming).

So, my vote is for the remake on Vita, both for developer experience and to have it on this platform.

Yup, sign me up for those Cthulu and BOD first. I may be partial to Rainslick 3 as well, should that ever make the jump.

I would buy both remakes on Vita. The fact that they were indie titles in XBL and required an Internet connection to play kept me from buying them, but I would get the Vita versions day one!

Plus, it's only a 3-6 month delay! I wouldn't mind it at all!

i own them all but my PC doesn't fit in my pocket.

Not in my case, at least. I never bought the XBLIG versions because of their aesthetic. I own them on Steam, but me playing a PC game instead of keeping it on a dusty digital shelf is a laughable pipe dream (sorry every Humble Bundle and sub-5$ game I've purchased - I'm sure you were great) .

The new tilesets are enough to get me excited. Massive improvement.

It blends in with the humor. I just dont think them looking like the newest Penny Arcade would add anything to them. It might actually detract from some of the laughs I got out of it.

Yeah, as I said before, allowing the option for both would be great.

I'd say yes to releasing earlier content. Although I'd like to see Zeboyd games on PS3 too with cross-saves/shared trophies like Dragon Fantasy. :)

We need more JRPGs on PSN with trophies.

Cthulhu Saves the World All-Stars
PC, PSN (definitely Vita, probably PS3/Vita cross-buy)
$10
Includes remakes of Breath of Death VII & Cthulhu Saves the World
Remakes would have visuals on par with Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4.
Gameplay would be rebalanced & would include some of the stuff we've added in the PA series.
Would also include two new "games" - Breath of Death XIII-2: Undead in Time and Cthulhu Saves the Galaxy.
Breath of Death XIII-2 would be inspired by Space Quest IV. i.e. you'd travel to other "installments" of the Breath of Death series.
Cthulhu Saves the Galaxy would be a direct sequel to CSTW.
BoDXIII-2 & CSTW would probably be about as long as BoDVII each. Maybe a little longer.

For $10? Take my money, I've yet to play your games on Steam, but I'd rebuy them (and actually play them) if they were portable/on my Vita.

I'd take Rain Slick Precipice 1 and 2 as well(also bought them, also didn't play them) for $10.
