Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

Everybody knows that swift retribution is more important than mourning the victims. See: every mass shooting in recent history.

It's not retribution to catch the perpetrator! What do you want them to do, let them get away while they focus on the funerals? This was resolved extremely quickly and with little unnecessary violence (on the part of the police). Now we can focus on the other elements without having to worry about them killing more people.

Guys lets be honest. Can you really blame the conspirators. This has been one of the craziest events ever. Almost at every turn information was leaked, false, changed, and stretched. Im not saying I believe them at all, but I think you guys are forgetting how insane this week has been.

*Buncha stuff*

I'm sure I'm missing a lot of stuff in the recap. But I can't really make fun of conspirators for this one. Its so out of this world. I mean this is their perfect nightmare/fantasy because everything is so crazy and out of place.

Those things are what should point in the opposite direction, right? A carefully-planned "false flag" operation would be pretty clean and simple, I'd think (hope?). This looks more like... life. Stupid kids without a real plan (but with weapons), public panic, media outlets fighting for the scoop, etc. Confusion and nonsense all around. I'd think that the government would be a little more structured with their nefarious plans.

The decent thing to come out of this will be the Russians and Amercians working together when it comes to Islamic Extremism. Especially in regards to the winter Olympics.

So we've gone from Turkey not being a democracy to being a very, very weak one.

Anything else you want to change?

How would you rank the United States in its treatment of its citizens and its impact on its own democracy?

US is also a weak democracy

in other news the Ambassador of the Czech Republic has had to give a public statement that "The Czech Republic and Chechnya are two very different entities".

were already infested with nationalist conspiracy nuts ranting on about islamification, see EDL, SD, Golden Dawn etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Norway_attacks this was a direct result of the nationalist conspiracy theoris by crazy right wing people

Im not sure that might be a good thing. Sure if it is striclty terrorism-related it is good and cooperation usually is good, but I can see Russia taking advantage of this for politcal reasons to gain power in their fringe countries.

And Russia (government+military) are probably going through US newspapers, TV News and sites with a wide grin on their face today in regards to what is being written about Chechnya.

I can; most of the information you listed that is "out of place" was premature internet or media speculation and had nothing to do with authorities. Everything else is pretty consistent--these guys murdered and murdered again, photo evidence places suspect two and his bag near the kid who died in the blast, they attempted to escape and engage law enforcement in combat rather than surrendering, explosives were used by the suspects in both cases etc.
Im not trying to paint this as any other narrative. By the bolded you clearly think I am. All I am saying is that we've never really experienced something this crazy, and since there was a lot of missteps its easy for the conspirators to latch on to something....anything really.

Even listening to the scanner there was a lot of misinformation. Also, correct me if Im wrong, but some outlets said numerous times that their information came from police officials, and later it turned out to be wrong.

Conspiracy nuts win both ways really. A really clean case and its too good. A very messy case (like this) and it shows how unprepared the conspirators were.

You Whiney fuckers piss me off!

I would love if the police in the UK had black and white tanks!

That's some scifi shit right there!

Just saw a picture of the dead guy (stumbled upon it, I didn't seek it). What a massive gash, don't know if from autopsy or the bomb going off.

Wow, this is fucked up. I followed everything about the bombing since i heard about it shortly after it happened. I followed every bit of news about the suspects and the whole manhunt. And i was happy to wake up today to the news that suspect #2 is in custody.

While i read everything about what was happening in the last hours, my gf is watching a Rizzoli & Isles DVD, and suddenly there is an Episode about a killer at the Boston Marathon... Wow...

Wow! That is pretty amazing...I didn't realize that anybody watches Rizzoli ad Isles.

I look forward to hearing more about the details over the next few months...I generally never care about the "why" of acts like this because they are usually so very obvious. In this case though, I'm very curious...Especially in the case of the one in custody. By all accounts he was well adjusted and social. What happened?

I would not call Turkey a democracy due to some of its laws that among some things affect free speech and more, also due to the conditions in some parts of turkey they do have oppression of some citizens (justified or not)

Is Turkey the only democracy which has laws that affect free speech? In what parts of Turkey does Turkey oppress its citizens?

To clear everything up about the convienence store photo;

Boston PD stated the robbery that reportedly happened at the store was actually the carjacking that happened outside the store in the parking lot. Nothing happened in the store.

40 more pages after I went to bed... they must have caught him. Anyone know roughly what page we were on when it happened?

I said to my friends thst I did feel kinda empathetic for him and did root for him to get away after he had been missing for so long. I still wanted him to pay for his crimes but it was incredible seeing him hide from the police and exciting. My friends think I'm crazy. Am I crazy?

Eh, I wanted that to happen as well. Technically that was the only reason I kept watching it was to see if he actually managed to get away. Could of been playing Counter Strike instead.

Also, why wasn't there a reward on offer for anyone that could give information? The guy who told the police where he was should get like $1 million or something.

Drug dealers, gang members, and crack heads manage to do it all the time so it doesn't surprise me given the wealth of places that a person has to hide.

That's not the same thing at all. Gangbangers and drug dealers 'evade' police because there'sno evidence to arrest them with, not because they can't find then. If it was somehow legal to arrest everybody with a known gang affiliation, it would happen incredibly quickly.

Thanks, but that was Dzhohkar in the shot right? I guess he was just buying something?

As futile as it is to say on a gaming forum I am extremely happy, relieved and impressed by the swiftness of the capture, kudos to the Boston Police force and the community for coming out the otherside and further kudos for taking him in alive. Its also fascinating to watch the news agencies in America now as they dissect everything, from the UK we dont have this kind of media here and while I dog on the usefulness of 24hour "must fill time, lets specualte" culture it is very interesting to hear experts views on the situation. We have that here but not in the abundance, Im skipping between news agencies and im seeing ex navy seals, fbi assistant directors, counter terrorist officers, pre and post 9/11.

No updates on Dzhohkar's status? It's been 12 hours, so I guess we can assume he's still alive, if not stabilized?

Yeah. Some people like to criticize the police for letting him get away and not finding Dzhohkar as a part of their systematic search, but I was nonetheless very impressed with their professionalism. Boston cops are truly god-tier. Same goes for the citizens. Imagine if something like this happened in, say, a nasty part of Baltimore. There'd likely be no civilian cooperation and police would be spending half their time in unrelated shootouts.

If we was dead there is no way they could keep that locked up, what im hoping to find by watching the news now is what happens next, what hes charged for, how do they go about interviewing him because in my lifetime this is a legitimate first. More interesting is that it is the younger brother, not the older one, if the tables had turned given how little information is know about the older brother its kind of easy to stamp him as "terrorist, next" but the lengths the media went to to expose how normal and seemingly decent the younger one was, it will be fascinating to hear what he has to say.

At least enough cash to fix all of the bullet holes in his boat.

There was sufficient public interest in the case that they didn't need to attach any monetary award.

LAPD would have botched this six ways from Sunday. Boston really did a fantastic job coordinating the effort.

WAKE UP SHEEPLE
The conspiracies on this one have been pretty juicy.

There's one I keep seeing floated around, especially on YouTube, that all seems to be the same idea. Basically that this is going to somehow be tied into guns and the NRA? And that the government will use this as an excuse to take everyone's guns. Or something to that nature. I've been unable to sleep with all of this stuff going on, so I've been watching a bunhc of random videos and articles about it and I keep seeing that sort of sentiment.

Doesn't make much sense to me since didn't the Senate strike down something from Obama's gun bill like two days ago? Something to do with background checks I think?

Which is odd because guns didn't really play much of a prominent role in this whole thing...explosives did.
