I'm at a Japanese wedding and see this....

Lmao.

Blackface just isn't a thing outside of US. I don't think it's meant to be offensive.

Indeed, and imho it would be strange for the USA to push its ideas on what´s racist or not onto the rest of the world, just because they have a history of blackface. People put different meanings into things based on their background and upbringing.

I guess the travel- and businessguides are still correct, when interacting with Americans don´t talk about subjects as race, politics or religion :).

Wow.

I would have just left the room. Just like I left the Ohio restaurant where all the waitstaff were in costume for Halloween...including a white couple in full blackface and body stockings to look like African tribesmen out of National Geographic (including tubesock boobies for the girl).

And I still can't believe that people think that the Japanese are too naive to be racist against Blacks/Africans.

Holy HELL. I wish I had even the remotest idea as to what prompted them to put on that godawful performance. The only wedding I've been to here was a /lot/ tamer... Nothing racist like that going on, thankfully. Too bad you didn't give 'em all a good glare, Mufasa.

(Also, LOLOLOL @ WiiGro. Brilliant!)

And I still can't believe that people think that the Japanese are too naive to be racist against Blacks/Africans.

It's more that places that aren't US don't have the racial history of the US, so therefore things that would be considered racist in the US due to that history would not be considered racist outside of US.

If there is no history of discrimination to this kind of performance and the performance isn't mean to be discriminatory/hateful, then is it really racist?

I can tell you that if I was there, I'd be thinking what the hell is up with these people, even before factoring in being the only black guy there.

And if it weren't for the thread examples, I wouldn't have known that they were going for a Papua New Guinea tribe look, but the big question is still why?

But then I continued on and saw Miigro.

We're only a quarter of the way into 2013, but there is NO way that there will be any picture that will top that this year.

It's over.

Holy shit.

I'll hire band wearing conical hats topped with buck Yaeba teeths to play at my wedding. Maybe little tape on side of the eyes to really get that eastern nuance.

This thread is amazing.

I think my laughter at Miigro, the reactions, and golden-negro may have woken up my African neighbors.

Maybe the joke is that they are playing Onis, but they don't have their horn on the head... :)

But Onis with dreadlocks.. mh...

EDIT: DAMMIT SNATCH

Bwahahahahahahah, what the FUCK XD, thread of the year by a long mile.

@ OP, I'm not sure what to say, AND they asked you to join them and sing? Holy shit bro..
How can they be that oblivious? Fuck me lol. Not 100% sure but were they supposed to be Oni's (Demons)? Or just plain ignorant/bizarre/confused?

Racists in my country paint their faces in black and use afro wigs in order to mock black people. Ergo every single person in the world that do such a thing is also being racist too.

One's gotta love projection and anglocentrism. These wedding guys are (hilarously) ignorant, not hateful.

Also, pic totally related:
