I don't think the next gen will wow as much because it isn't pushing on past good pc's but also because it's getting more and more difficult to deliver the wow factor when even the old boxes can deliver something as good looking as the recent Tomb Raider game and the likes.

Which is fine by me and the reason I want the next gen to wow me with something other than horse power. I just can't see myself slobbering over pretty pictures anymore, current gen games already look beautiful to my eyes and it's all just a long road of diminishing returns from here on end.

Wonder if Sony will hold another conference before May 21 or after?

Anyone remember those rumours that there was going to be one more conference before E3? Maybe a couple of days before the Xbox conference would be good, or maybe a couple of days after

PC Mag said that their source involved with Sony's PR told them they would do another pre-E3 conference. I don't really know about that one, though, because no other outlet has backed that up. This'll be an interesting month-and-a-half no matter what, thats for sure.

Sony will probably put out a few more youtube videos like they did with the recent dualshock one. But a full out event? Nah, I don't think so. Wait till E3.

Yep. I don't agree with people saying May 21st will be the day where they choose. Both will have their big guns saved for E3.

Microsoft might try to shake things up to get some positive press out there, but I feel like a vast majority of their event is going to be dedicated to Kinect 2.0, their OS/online strategy, the philosophy behind the box, and maybe 20 minutes of games. Sort of like Sony's event. Both of these events are mainly for the press.

I read somewhere there was going to be a Sony Event in Brazil on May 7th. If i find the article, i'll link it.

Just listened to the Podcast.

They have something HUGE planned.

Words to the effect of: "Even if our coverage sucks, this will single handedly save it".
I think it's having a live Q&A with live game footage for some of the titles revealed.

I think it must only have had that impact if you're not gaming on a pc rig and already used to that level of graphics.

I hold a completely opposite view from yours. Next gen will be a huge and immediately noticeable leap (like always, starting from the second year). As for looking better than PC games, I don't see why that tradition won't repeat itself. PC has been catching up faster.

I don't get how having exclusive third party games benefits the user at all or why anyone should be excited.

What are you gaining exactly? Nothing. All you are doing is taking away from someone else. Now, if that money that is used for exclusives is used to create new IP's, then that is something to get excited over.

That isn't Microsoft's strategy. I disagree with it entirely, but it worked for them last generation. A lot of times it comes down to companies leaving money on the table. That goes for Insomniac and Epic, for example.

I'm specifically referring to this quote.

"Words to the effect of: "Even if our coverage sucks, this will single handedly save it".

and people responding that it would be an exclusive game. Not sure how that would save anything or why that should get someone excited.

I think the quote is referring to getting hands-on time with the actual box, going through the OS, etc etc.

Yeah, if anything that is a major turn off. I know that practice has been around for a long time, but I disagree with that approach entirely. I can think of a single third party title that I would have to rush out and buy a console for.

Agreed.

I believe that's a given at this point. :)
I'm wondering if Respawn's new game will also be a timed exclusive for MS.

:D

Yeah, I am sure MS or Sony would love to grab that. Just being able to put "From the makers of CoD" on a box will do wonders. Doubly so if the game actually turns out to be good.

I kind of feel they will show the console (main box) at E3 and not at the reveal event. They have a great chance to make a really good impression by showing box and the controller, but I guess E3 is close anyway so it shouldn't really matter.

There are a lot of people who don't believe the leaked specs for the 720 and believe that it is stronger then the PS4.

The crazy ones like Reiko who believe MS changed the leaked specs after the PS4 announcement are a bit nutty though...the logistics for that would be insane.

If the 720 is announced and it is stronger then the PS4, then it was stronger all along.

I like that you called me out.

BTW... I never actually said that. That is horseshit. Whatever changes probably were initiated a long time ago.

and Phil Spencer says there will definitely be games. From here until the 21st, I'm not believing any positive or negative news about this console. Based on all the back and forth nobody knows squat.

I think taking Phil's word is the better choice.

@derFeef #XBoxReveal will definitely include games.

Isn't that giving you a legitimate reason to choose one console over the other even if they are sequels or whatnot? Obviously it is to persuade consumers to choose their primary console. I mean if they both had the identical same games with the same graphics, why even wait for the other console then? It gives people who decide to procure both consoles a reason to do so also.

They're going to show the box at the reveal event, otherwise MajorNelson will be the biggest idiot in the industry on that day.

Yeah what colossal mistake by Sony. Guess it will be plain sailing for MS this generation. Thanks General Nelson, for that amazing insight.

Oh most definitely, I'm saying I'm not putting much stock into anything posted before the May 21st event unless its from somebody like Phil. Every tidbit of info on Durango(except for the specs) has been flip-flopped to hell and back.

From a marketing perspective its a lot easier to sell the hardware by showcasing the hardware. That's why you've got game trailers/ads that ends with a picture of a console.

Which is why Sony held off on showing it early? Save it for the big reveal at E3 perhaps, but either way it's arbitrary. It wasn't a huge mistake to not show the box. Perhaps an odd one, maybe jarring. But at E3 they'll have that as an element of curiosity.

26 days.

Hopefully as we get closer to the announcement date, MS starts releasing some teasers.

They will without a doubt start airing teasers on Spike TV.

Sure, having a element of curiosity is good, but it does (to some degree) contradict the marketing strategy I explained.

Would be cool if the PS4 was powered by the controller:/

Thank you. It definitely sounds like they know something, their 2hr pre event show must be something really special if they don't intend to waste people's time/not a filler pre-show.

Also interesting comments about MS possibly not showing any games at this event, but instead waiting until E3. Not sure how believable that is, but I certainly don't expect there to be more than one or two games shown with a reel teasing other games.

It will probably be announcements of games, exclusive content, etc.

Yup, that sounds like the sane thing to do. Now let me ask you, if MS does indeed require mandatory online connection to play games as well as block used games, will you still put money down for a 720?

I don't know. On the one hand I know I shouldn't, just as a consumer. On the other hand I like buying shit and a new console is the biggest purchasing temptation there is for me.
