How exactly do you expect them to do that? From my impression of what is happening, most of the US only content is not available in Europe, not because MS are purposely blocking it but because the can't. Fact is, they have more entertainment content for the European market than any of their competitors. They can only do as much as they are allowed to. Now, having said entertainment content behind a Gold paywall is another thing entirely but its working for them so far so.....

I can imagine they will have their own TV and movie service on the next Xbox. It would make sense considering rumors about that a few months back. Make it available worldwide and have a great catalogue would be a good start.

It would be awesome if they could air GOT or Boardwalk Empire on Live without a Sky connection. That's be a massive killer app IMO, but it's unlikely as HBO already have deals in place.

That would be nice. I would settle for being able to buy a basic Sky subscription that works through the Xbox.

I currently use Sky on my 360 and it's pretty damn good. If I could get just that without all the other Sky crap I'd probably do it.
 
Also wouldn't be surprised if they just drop the Arcade name and rename it Xbox Marketplace. The 'arcade' part of the name isn't really relevant anymore.

Gotta love how selective folk are about which parts of Microsoft's history they choose to recognise when trying to push an agenda.

"MS will have no games" Why? because of the last 2 years? What about the OG and 360? Both had new IPs and great games and launch. Wheras the PS2 &3 launched with both fuck and all.

"lol, why does everyone think MS will moneyhat?". Choosing to ignore Microsoft's history of money hats now? Why?

I heard the rumor of Xbox Live Family plan being included with regular gold.

Also listened to Major Nelson podcast and the put heavy emphasis on games when they spoke about the reveal.

Imagine multiplayer and multimedia options (like accessing Netflix) having a subscription pay model while being behind a DRM console. One can only dream!

Microsofts history of moneyhats is one thing but the direct correlation to their performance is another. There can be arguments made that the 360 probably could have been just as successful without the moneyhats, all others things remaining the same. Is a couple of meaningless episodes being exclusive to a Xbox version of a game for a couple months worth it for both parties? Other DLC? Games?

The market changes considerably from gen to gen.

Would be nice if it was free with Gold.

If they were to somehow axe pay-for-multiplayer, stuff like that may make Gold still worth it for people.

Free multiplayer should be a priority. If they have enough good services behind the paywall then people will pay.

Not really, I mean tons of people are already paying for it so I could see why Microsoft would continue to charge for it. Making it free would be a defensive move to possibly combat against the competition, since you can't have people pay for Gold if they don't buy the Xbox in the first place.

I know a few people who want Gold but don't have it because it's behind a paywall. They want multiplayer without the rest that Gold has to offer. Offering a barebones online infrastructure will do more good than harm in the long term. They may see a small dip in their bottom line initially, but I still think they can offer plenty of services behind the paywall that people would be willing to pay for.

They're a big company with plenty of cloud-based products, why not roll that into it in some way? (this is why I'm not a business strategist :D)

The thing is that people are willing to buy Gold solely for the multiplayer component right now. That's the reason why I couldn't see Microsoft changing it. I'm not sure if it's because the general consumers thinkgs Xbox Live is more stable, better, they don't know about PSN/PS3, or whatever the case may be, but that's just how it turned out this generation.

Now, as you alluded to, if Sony continues to allow for free online multiplayer, people could start becoming a little weary of paying for Gold to get access to that on the Xbox console. This could not only hurt them in the long-turn, but if people are that fed up but have stuck with it because they didn't want to invest in a new console, then they might just go with Sony this holiday as well, so it could be a big bruise on initial sales.

That's just conjecture, but I could see that sceneario play out unless Microsoft really has some kind of marketing juju that can convince people that Xbox Live is better than PSN. Also, you'll definitely see Skyrdrive and the like incorporated into the next Xbox. There's going to be a lot of cross brand stuff like Skype that's going to be very interesting and cool. Once again, conjecture, but chatting with ANYBODY through Skype while you play games would replace the basic Private and Party Chat systems that exist in the 360 right now.

Are we talking entire exclusive titles or some exclusive DLC, etc. that they're doing for a while? I don't think MS will be getting entire exclusive titles from EA.

I thought Sony and EA were buddies with EA showing their games on PS3 and BF3 having timed exclusivity on DLC and such.

Was there something more recent with MS and EA?

This makes me wonder if they are going to raise the price of Xbox Live Gold and then "add functionality" to justify it. They could add in Xbox Music and other stuff too.

It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft wants to shift all users away from buying a year of Live at $60 to subscribing to Live at 7-10 bucks a month.

Sony probably decided to throw that exclusive DLC money Activision's way this time, leaving the door open for MS to swoop in.

We don't know if this Destiny exclusive stuff is an exclusive-exclusive. Nowadays everyone can get an exclusive and the gamer can't get everything for a game they are anticipating and somehow publishers think that's fucking awesome.

I was just wondering about the actual deals that he is referring to as I don't know of any, but I also haven't been following EA that much in the console space.

Pretty sure Bungie confirmed on their forums that the DLC would be exclusive to PS4 and that the Durango version would also receive some exclusive DLC.

My memory's a little hazy though and I can't find the posts in question.
