Skullgirls DLC Character vote | The Campaign united us, The Voting will destroy us

I'm flabbergasted right now. I'm also hoping that all my Annie friends in here aren't formig a lynch mob for me. >_>
TOO LATE

But seriously, dude, since Eliza won, any character that you want me to push now that she's out of the running? Since you're pushing Black Dahlia for me.

I'm not salty. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not.

The instant-runoff voting system is actually perfect since it doesn't allow haters of the top contenders to do anything against them. Hatemobs are rendered pointless. It's pretty nice for Annie's chances.

It helps all characters equally, but sort of the problem with any second vote (from the same pool of candidates/voters) is that those who did well in the first vote are far more likely to win the second time around.

If Juju had come in, or more voters were added to the pool, things would change, but most likely it's fairly likely that one of the other top 3 will win round 2. What's more, if the 2nd place character had anywhere from 3% - 10% vote over the 3rd place character, that character is anywhere from 90-95% likely to win.

The more you wish for it, the greater the disappointment.

But people will vote for low support character to buffer their pick from other popular choices. I think it leaves too much room for trickery.

With the old method, you had a finite amount of votes that got progressively smaller. You wanted someone to win, you voted for them. Now people will be trying to line up a collection of sacrificial lambs to bolster their chances.

I actually hold the opposite view. I think the overexposure and all the salt that started concentrating when the top four was announced is really gonna hurt the chances of the remaining four - less people are going to be as invested as seeing them reach the top simply because a lot of people are just gonna be exhausted over it all. Meanwhile, lots of dark horses are starting to emerge after the fact and particularly for characters with campaigners as active as Annie's, a lot of that momentum will start to stagnate. I want to believe. But it's harder every day.

...Ultimabro's cynicism realism is catching on. :(

The results have me dancing to the song that finally fits a member of the cast

She's Numbuh 5 in Codename: Kids Next Door.

That voice is perfect - for Roxie!

Speaking of which, this video does a great job of explaining instant run-off voting - the message is clear, even if you believe some characters are favored, vote for your actual favorites first if you want to give them an actual chance - if they don't get it, it gets moved down to whomever's next in line.

So, I'll probably rank Scythana first, not entirely sure if i'll make Beowulf or Roxie 2nd... maybe her, then Beowulf, then Panzerfaust.

If you're worried about having to rank everyone, there's a great tool for that in this very topic's first post - just ignore the options that rank characters equally unless it's the ones you don't care about at all.

Good job, Eliza fans. She was probably the most boring design-wise out of all of the finals imo and I'll most likely never get her but the majority has spoken and it was a victory well deserved.

Eliza was at least more interesting than Aeon, but she's still a bad choice imo.
Guess too many people went for crazy boobage instead of actually interesting to play characters.

Glad it panned out like this, as Eliza was the only one in the top 4 I wanted, though Minette would have been okay.

Hoping for a Beowulf sweep for 2, and I can see it happening given the way this one ended up.

Just saw the announcement. That art is amazing. AMAZING. Love the bouncers.

It's surprising to me that she was so far ahead so early on in the week as far as the voting was concerned. She was definitely my choice out of the four, though!

Can't wait to see how the change in voting affects things coming up!

This isn't really how voter psychology works, especially in the short term. If the second vote were three months away, you might be right, but two votes back to back will simply solidify the voting blocs, not separate them.

I hope when you say that you are referring to minette and no one else. Because Minette is the only character imo that has more interesting gameplay *in a good way* than Eliza

Push Annie.

I know your feel so much. I got my absolute number 1 and I'm happy but now Feng, Black Dahlia and Annie (who I'm coasting on as my absolute second pick) are looking at me all puppy eyed.

Edit: Actually, I'm half asleep and didn't read the whole post. Sorry man! :P

The more you wish for it, the greater the disappointment.

I would be fine with almost any girl other than Beatrix's obnoxiously busy design.

Nah; the current top 8 have the most chance of winning the next vote. The only thing that will help characters right now is a dedicated fanbase rather than the casual vote since only your top vote counts. They made hate-voting impossible.

Yeah, we all totally ignored the blood traps, daggers, singing, Egyptian theme, second stance/character

Seriously guys, they all had pretty good gameplay. Designs were at the very least sound all around, and stories--well, honestly Eliza's antagonist potential blew everybody else out of the water, but Annie plays a part in that so hey

edit: Jordan.gif? Is that the one of Michael Jordan laughing?

That really comes down to how many of them got in through being someone's second or third choice. If only the first choice matters quite a bit could change due to people being forced to stick with one character from the beginning.

I honestly am fine with Eliza. I would have liked Minette, and so I voted for her, in all honesty the one character I don't really think fits Skullgirls is Kanji. We already have Cerebella, there's no need for more grapplers.

He's not really a grappler though

Eliza easily had the most compelling gameplay description out of the top 4.
She has the best balance of everything IMO. Despite not being my very favorite character in the vote, she is easily the most fully realized character in every aspect. Truly inspired design.

Aeon is the one in the most danger from the current top 3.

Yeah, I really don't get where this mindset is coming from. Like, I know he's a wrestler, but there's a surprising amount of non-grappling moves he could and probably will have. I dunno, I just don't see it with him. Could just be me. *shrugs*

Too busy smacking fools with chairs.

Not just TeamMusic, but the Battle of Jazz as depicted in Home Movies too.
stop making this better dammit, I'm too hyped to go to sleep

The use of Anubis and Osiris (or is it Horus, I'm rusty) in that image is fucking inspired by the way.

And yeah 7th, I'm full team Annie now. Let me just revel in this glory a bit longer... Ahhhhhh...

Horus. Osiris is god of the underworld and doesnt get depicted as a half animal.
