Norcal Regionals 2013 | Road to EVO 2013 Fighting Game Tournament | April 26-28

He's not a bad player, so it's better to not risk a loss. But at the same time all this has done is fucked with Chris G's ego and NOT helped him grow the fuck up about losing

But don't you think if people were splitting the pot they'd have a different winner here and there?

We really need more upsets prior to top 8. Trouble is I think the teams that can take out the morrigan/doom combo aren't that great up against other well known teams.

Would it though?

honestly, I'm playing Devil's Advocate here (I mostly agree with you) but considering that most people seem to dislike watching Chris play (they like watching Chris LOSE) would eliminating him from the brackets really be all that bad from a spectator standpoint?

Would fighting game tournaments become less hype if Chris G weren't in them?

I think it would shed a bad light on the EVO staff if anything. Ya what he said was out of line, but it should only be between him and his sponsor.

It would be a less legit tournament.

Yeah it would.
People want to see the best guy , win or lose. It may not hurt the spectator hype, you ban someone viewed as the top overall player, it makes the win less legitimate.

I mean, ban enough players, and even I could win a major.

If someone was banned for a shady/weak reason, I'd view TFC's tourney as more legit than Evo.

Would you ban F.Champ from EVO because he says it a lot?

You know what I'm not looking forward to twitter next week because everyone will talk about this.

But when he first tweeted about FR he complained about it. Guy doesn't take his loses well apparently
Oh, Chris..

Anyways, I'm glad the drama and the hunger has been cranked to 11 at this major. Anxious to see how it all pans out tomorrow. It's a stacked as fuck bracket, but I want ApologyMan to take it. Odds are against him though. Right now Champ is in the best position to take it, but he's got two big threats ahead of him, KBR and Ranmasama. Hopefully he's learned from his sets with Bum how to approach Haggar but they play different styles and I'm not sure if FChamp is ready. If not ApologyMan then I want it to be KaneBlueRiver because dude has that inspirational story going for him and has always been both solid and hungry.

Well, this I'm not sure about. He responded to some needling by throwing out a homophobic slur in public. The idea that the person on the end of that insult would be negatively judged for denying them access to their event seems a little weird, to me. Especially considering there's no apology (yet.)

If there was an apology, it was accepted, and he was kicked from EVO still? Maybe then, I could see there being a negative light.

But if Chris is unapologetic, and Mr. Wizard did decide "you know what? Fuck it, you don't get to play on our stage" that reads to me more like a legitimate consequence in response to a pretty stupid action.

.

That's not the point of my Devil's Advocate question there, really. And yeah, Ryan should stop fucking saying it because it makes him sound like an asshole, but he didn't say it AT the guy who throws the event, either. What I was getting at was - say EVO happens. Chris isn't there. Would the tournament overall really feel less hype because he wasn't there? Would people tag an asterisk on the champions that came out of it because Chris was disqualified for being dumb on twitter?

What would stop MrWizard from provoking others the same way? If you're running a tourny you don't wanna deny the top players, that undermines the tournament. He's not losing anything letting chrisg play, and banning him only shows that he's petty.

The only people that should take any action should be the sponsors.

But Mr Wizard was the one to provoke him. I'm not defending how ChrisG responded, but Wizard came at him first.

Plus, Wizard is a huge troll. I don't know their history but I doubt anything will come of all this.

So ban everyone that says the word

What someone says while upset because of a defeat shouldn't be taken into that much of consideration. He should get some kind of slap on the wrist for sure (and apparently he did by deleting the tweet... though it didn't help that he denied doing anything wrong), but getting banned of the biggest tournment of the year because of one angry tweet is over the top. It would be over the top even if it was an angrier tweet.

Whoa, wait a min. The "provocation" here wasn't all that bad. And Chris was playing along up until that point. It wasn't until Wizard dropped the punchline (which wasn't even that icy) that Chris went for the f-bomb. There's still an element of personal responsibility here, and the fact he was getting needled on twitter doesn't wipe away the fact he called the guy who runs EVO a faggot on twitter.

Again - I doubt Wizard would actually ban him, regardless of whether Chris ever apologizes or not.

People don't wanna see the same old shit, and thinking banning ChrisG will solve that. We'll just see the same old shit from someone else.

Which is the silliest thing. I get turning a player into a heel adds to the drama which creates these kinds of moments, etc etc. but really, c'mon, you don't get to survive 3 seconds in any FGC without someone telling you that "nothing is cheap" like some kind of mantra.

There's a huge line between wanting to see the "cheap" player lose for the entertainment value (like betting for the underdog) and wanting him gone from a tournment. Losing sight of this line is to punish a player for winning, which is incredible detriment to the competitive enviroment. It blows my mind every time someone think a tournment would be better without Chris G on it.

This is the kind of shit that we should not support. At all. I'm tired of people saying "OH THIS IS PART OF THE FGC." Tell that to Ricky Ortiz. Fuck you, Chris G, you piece of shit.

It's the sponsors that should take the actions, that's my take on it. If a sports professional does something stupid publicly they're still able to compete, but the sponsors usually pull out.

People shifting blame to Wizard for "provoking" him are hilarious, btw.

Adults don't get provoked into calling somebody a faggot.

I'm not sure if this has always been the case, but the amount of people running Magneto Dr.Doom Vergil was staggering.

I tweeted at AGE. I suggest everyone else should too. This is not acceptable. Hey, do you wanna take this to the next level? Be a fucking professional about it. Calling someone a faggot is not acceptable.
No one here said that.
While not HERE, the community as a whole has not given a shit. It's been the overall attitude. It's time something is done about it. Remember the SFxTekken bullshit?

FChamp allegedly calls Ricky that all the time and Ricky doesn't care.

It serves a different connotation for them and they don't really see the other side.

Mr Wizard was fishing for that kind of reaction. Chris is a grown man and still responsible for what comes out of his mouth. I do not defend juvenile behavior

I don't think Ricky would care at all. He's BFFs with Filipino Champ, who says stuff like this all the time.

The FGC has gone soft. People are shaking hands before and after matches, and whenever someone says the wrong thing, it turns into a big deal.

Yeah, basically, so long as Ricky Ortiz is giving people in the scene the gay version of the Ghetto Pass, they'll have no problems continuing to use the term.

People only really reconsider using slurs when they have a personal negative experience after using it. And if one of the people who would otherwise be expected to give you pushback doesn't? There's no impetus to change your behavior.

The FGC has gone soft.

It's not a community, and calling people "faggot" isn't particularly hardcore.

Well, they should start thinking about it. Because it's not cool, and the community can't grow if people are pulling this sort of shit.

This isn't about it being "soft." It's about the community itself becoming larger and more professional. Save that shit for your weekly shit where you know everyone. If you're the top player in your game you should be more professional than that shit. It's not acceptable.

I hate to say this, but do you guys think politically correcting the FG community is the way to go? Have you guys ever watched a Lol stream? Do you realize how boring, vanilla, and sterilized that shit is? They literally put me to sleep. If the fighting game community turned into that I don't know if I could really stand watching it anymore.

To me this is one of the last bastion of players being themselves, for better or worse.

Sorta related but I remember when Honzo on his twitter was defending himself for using the n- word and he actually said something along the line of if black people can use it everyone can. I un-followed him right there

People complain about how dry Magus' commentary is nowadays. But the Mr Naps vs Justin Wong replay video was a reminder of how raw he was before on the mic. And that was met with a lot of negative feedback.

It's already happening.

The FGC has gone soft.
There is a vast difference between using certain kinds of offensive language among friends where certain connotations are established, and using slurs in highly-visible public situations.

Having the restraint to not do the latter is not being "soft"; it's showing a bare-minimum amount of common sense.

Do you really think that the hype comes from calling other people faggots? Seriously? Being "politically correct" will not sterilize the game, and the drama that can happen. We should care about good competition and the rivalries within. Not homophobic slurs. That's not okay.
