No, they have. Saying "Now, I don't defend what he said" before you launch into a defense of his right to say it doesn't negate the fact it's still a defense of what he said and his right to say it.

You've essentially been arguing that people should get to say similar things because the minorities in question have attempted to reclaim those slurs, so now they're fair game. Ferrio's been arguing that people should get to say those slurs because to disallow them is caving to political correctness and weaking/softening the "community." Marden basically did a drive-by that blended those two arguments in about twenty words or so.

None of that gets wiped away simply because you prefaced those arguments with "I don't like homophobic slurs, BUT..."

Which, where Marvel is concerned, really sucks.

The game is fast and chaotic, and one touch can lead to a win. It costs people games and therefore money. Professionalism goes both way, and Evo needs to find a way to make it work.

I'm the only person that said "I'm not defending what he said". And I stand by that. The only thing I meant after saying that is I think Mr Wizard was drawing ChrisG out to say these things and that might give Mr Wizard pause in banning him from events (which is all speculation, Wizard said nothing of the sort).

So what happens when a game is better on the ps3 then the xbox? Gotta switch console mid tournament for different games? Gotta have 2 copies of each game on each setup with 2 consoles?

I'm somewhat sympathetic to EVO's choice of console because this shit costs money (and that would be translated into higher venue fees, ultimately), but it's still kinda dumb.

I have been saying no such thing. My first post regarding this topic was that i feel that people who dont know the parties in question should not get involved. I did not explicitly state my opinion on slurs towards groups of people (regardless of intent) at all. But if you must know then i will clarify: regarding the use of any type of slur, i feel that context of a word is more important than the word itself in question. However, I feel that malicious intent towards another in any sort of way should not be tolerated. That is regardless of whether the language used involves slurs or not. Chris G's actions were very obviously malicious, and to me i feel that is unacceptable. The word used is irrelevant to me.

If i wad chris g's sponsor i'd give him the boot immediately. But make no mistake i'd give him the boot regardless if he had tweeted "asshole" instead of "faggot"


What I am trying to get at is that the community needs to grow up. I consider growing up though not being malicious assholes towards others, rather than being the same assholes but not using slurs. I have a bigger problem with Chris G (among others) going onto twitter and being whiny babies every time they lose, not that he happened to say the word "faggot" amongst his childish tirade. To focus that as the center of the issue here, I question the priorities of those who really wish for the community to grow up.

If you call that a defense of what he has said than i don't know what to say to you, frankly.

Yeah but I think the problem is big enough that people would probably be willing to bring in 360 consoles for free.

They switch consoles up all the time.

And yes, when the difference is as significant as it is in Marvel, they should have the proper set-up for those games.

You can't be dependent on volunteered equipment when you're as big as EVO unless said equipment is volunteered in full well in advance.

I'm still impressed that Final Round managed to get 16 brand new 360s at the last minute.

I hope the rumors of ultra-cheap 360s coming out later this year are true. Might mean more 360s in tournaments.

A number of things at the start of the generation:

1) Tekken
2) RROD
3) much wider compatibility with various USB devices on PS3 (there were no decent converters for 360 for a LONG time)

And once they've invested in that many PS3s, it requires a really good justification to spend a lot of money on some 360s too. (I personally think the justification is there, but then again, I am a Marvel minion.)
