Skullgirls DLC Character vote | The Campaign united us, The Voting will destroy us

I've been skeptical about the alternative voting / instant run-off method that we'll be using in this next vote but this video a Gamefaqs user highlighted really explains the benefits of the system.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y3jE3B8HsE

I'm convinced!

With this method the base splitting that would occur with people simultaneously going for Annie and Minette (as an example, not saying that the bases are necessarily analogous) is mitigated and a character that's more representative of the base's wants is chosen.

That was me

I'm convinced too, it's going to be really interesting

This is genius

God, I need more 3d action games with humanoid/human sized bosses.

I wish Rising's bosses didn't paradoxically get easier the higher difficulty level you got just because your damage output becomes so insanely high.

Considering the reactions in the Salty Cupcakes chat whenever Rich gets on the mic I think quite a few people are okay with some Black Cock #Kappa

It's nice to see Hubrecht get some love from someone. I think he could be potentially amazingly hype to watch in tournament. Like Haggar, but with more rainbows.

I don't even care for Haggar or the burly wrestler archetypes all that much; I want Hubrecht playable because he's an otherwise tough looking guy with a heart motif. <_< I just hope he's a more of a strong man with a soft side than stereotypically effeminate.

I just realized, if Lab Zero scores the coup and gets Cree Summers with Rich, it'd be a chocolate overload at Salty Cupcakes.

Yep. But it also means that if there are lots of people who prefer them as the 1st and 2nd choice, they have a huge chance of getting a victory over a character like Beowulf, who likely has a very vocal minority (again, by getting rid of strategic voting, it's likely that characters with less likely pluralities may get preferential treatment).
You keep downplaying Beowulf's support despite the fact that he's just missed the top four. And it's not like the members of the top 4 that didn't win were in any sort of real contention. Eliza had already won by the top 8.

This race is a lot closer than a lot of people think, and a more focused male voting block will certainly be a huge aspect in the next round.

Heh, it's just funny to hear this when Aeon was another one he was audibly scared of dealing with even if that was a while back.

I don't think she's anywhere near the nightmare tier Aeon was for balance, just still one of the more difficult characters in his mind.

I was going to draw an Annie hype picture. Instead, I drew my favorite character, Southside Jim, from the worst fighting game ever, Pit Fighter.

I don't know how I failed at this particular job so badly. I'm sorry guys.

He likes her mechanic, but, it's one of the more involved ones and he's concerned about balancing her.
All I ask is that unlike the mechanics demo where all the blood droplets remained as dozens of balls on the stage, that nearby droplets be shown as a pool or puddle even if the game still considers them individual droplets. Number can be shown by puddle length or whatever, but all those balls of blood looked really bad.

He just took a graphic from Double to use as a demo

Characters who get stronger as they lose health always seem really hard to balance, one of the main reasons I ended up voting for Annie instead of Eliza. If a full health Eliza is balanced to be weaker than the rest of the cast, how much stronger should she be at low health? She can't be too weak at the beginning or too strong at the end. Its a crazy balancing scale, as opposed to most characters where the goal is to make them equal with the rest of the cast all of the time. Just look at a character like Phoenix in MvC3, who is an extreme example of this style.

Single character Eliza for lulz Would probably feel like fighting a boss.

This is the direction that I was thinking about it as well. Obviously it's going to depend on what options open up for her with her blood specific moves but if they're good then fighting a solo Eliza may be a seriously scary endeavor. Ultradavid made the point that she may be one of the few characters you purposely pull OUT of the corner so she doesn't have access to her pools of blood in a single concentrated area. This is good though, I think characters that shift incentive to be used as a solo character versus a team and give clear advantages outside of damage to do so is a positive thing for the game overall.

On the flipside though Mike has said that Eliza may have a move that damages herself, pulling her own blood out on to the field at the cost of some health. Given the ability to use any grounded move in this game as an assist it seems to me that a utility assist like that would give a person a lot of incentive to use Eliza as an anchor character. I'm thinking an Eliza team setup like XX / XX / Eliza + Self Damage assist, when you get a free moment either during a combo or some point in neutral let her throw out some of her own blood on the field and heal back the damage while she's out of the field. And then as another factor in the match an opponent has to think to themselves what is the Risk / Reward of actually doing a soft punish on an Eliza assist given that A. They wouldn't be killing her and B. She's taking damage and thus throwing out even more blood on the field.

And this isn't even accounting for when Sekhmet is on the field, the rushdown component of the character. Alex has said that Sekhmet may not bleed when hit but will she be able to make use of any blood specific special moves? Will certain special moves require X amount of blood on the field? How much blood is used? Can she use any blood attack at any range or will it require that she be on top of some pools of blood in order to activate them?

Yeah ... this is actually starting to sound really daunting, the blood mechanic alone is enough to build a character off of without having to touch the intended dual mode aspect of the character. I can only imagine this working out if the Blood moves themselves only opened maybe some limited space control / projectile / super properties and keeping the focus of the character on the dichotomy between slow deliberate Eliza and the fast furious Sekhmet.

/9 month pre-release theory fighting for a character that has nothing finalized

About balancing Eliza, Mike Z could see some matchs of Carmine of Under Night IN-BIRTH.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bdATVi_AxA

As Eliza, he can use his puddles of blood to do attacks, but he is not affected about strenght if he has less/more energy.

He's already listed as a gameplay inspiration / motivation. The balance here is different though, Carmine is a character that has moves that deliberately lay down pools of blood that he then activates with other special moves and Eliza is a character who, I'm assuming, is going to get the majority of the blood she has access to from being attacked. It's the difference between a moveset that rewards offensive play with additional tools and one who rewards a person getting hit.

I generally dislike characters that consist of other characters, or copy cats.

A pure horror Double would be awesome.

Really awesome write up. Didn't think about actual self-harm assists being a meta though, I was convinced from the start that Squiggly's (or any other character that gets a) screen refocusing special move would automatically be Eliza's best friend as it would allow her to consciously set herself up either to be advantageous through offense or through controlled blood splatter setups.

Am I the only one who'd like to see a non-shapeshifting (into other characters) version of Double someday?

Yeah. I was pretty hyped for the character when I thought she was gonna be a shifting abomination most of the time. Turned out in the end that she was pure copycat where the only move she has that makes use of her freaky form is her throw. What made me even sadder is that they originally planned to give her a super in her creepy form.
