As much as I like using Twitter, I think this kind of conversation calls for more than 140 characters but hey, your tweet might be on her show! :p

Edit:

marrec linked to his tweet which linked to two pieces. I had no idea this stemmed from a recent segment she did.

Kotaku breaks down Couric's segment

PA Report commentary

Killing people without having to worry about that pesky blood splatter getting in your eye.

Seriously, that shit stings.

An expression and feeling of overcoming dangerous threats, as well as a form of competition in some cases.

Doesn't have to be shooting, since most games are violent in some way.

I feel like she's missing the point. Perhaps deliberately if she thinks the answer can be articulated in 140 characters without losing something somewhere.

That's interesting. Hope it doesn't get twisted into something else on her show.

I expect this topic to solely fall on Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, with maybe a touch of Max Payne 3 in there, as according to mainstream media it's the only kind of violence in games.

She should know the answer to this, working in media. Someone ask her why the news spends 99% of their time reporting on violence, troubling economy, and other negative news? RATINGS! Violence and negativity sells, even in the News industry.

There are no positives to violent video games so we should ban them. And then we can start burning books we feel are inappropriate for kids as well. And this should all be decided by a government agency who has all of our best interests in mind.

She just needs to know that sometimes violent games stoke the game boners of some folk. Surely she would understand that.

I am not sure why there is a problem. It's obviously a set up, but if you find nothing wrong with them then my not tweet what you like about them? Why be so defensive? Sometimes I just like to hit something, and since hitting something in real life is frowned upon, fighting games tend to let me do it.

They're fun.

What sort of stupid question is this?

This is the kind of amswer she is looking for, so she can say "People have a thrist for violent videogames because they find it fun to murder thousands of people and enjoy the gore."

The issue is way more complicated, and her loaded question seeking out 140 character responses is ridiculous.

Violence is a main feature in very few games, and most of the time it is an excuse to get your though the levels. In most cases it is very satsifying, but without the sadism the ignorant media usually associates with "violent games".

I think the question should be whether or not violent people with mental health issues should be allowed to play violent games.

Also, violent games are fun not just because of the violence but also the thrill of the situations you are presented.

Violent games can be a safe outlet for aggression and anger which reduces real world stress. It's not a tough concept.

This conversation cannot be had on tweeter. Also the question is one sided.

She should book someone knowledgeable on the subject and have the discussion.

Why not go after violent movies? Why not ask the question about violent movies Katie?

Movies have dramatically larger audiences than video games.

There is much less violence in TV and film in Europe, and guess what they have much less violence IRL... and in addition they have the same level of video game violence. How do you like them apples Katie?

Oh, is it because all your friends or the people you want to be friends with are the stars of violent movies?

What are the positives of the news talking about killer psychopaths for weeks on end? Showing their pictures and manifestos on loop, encouraging other unstable individuals to do the same?

Videogames take up precious TV time that could be spent watching news. Thus, the news must demonize it at every opportunity.

This doesn't at all feel like bait to get angry people tweeting abuse towards them so they can show it off and prove their point. Nope, nothing dodgy about it.

It's a question looking for an answer. People don't play violent video games because they're violent. They play games that are fun which happen to have violence in them.
