He was asking whether the non-subsidized version ($500 upfront cost) would include free XBL. I said no, it won't include it and you'll need to pay separately.

I think they'll include a free period in it though as well (probably something like 3 free months of Gold with the Premium pack). Both of these options are appealing to MS really, but they want to provide a little incentive for people to spend more up front. They want EVERYONE on Gold, so they'll dangle the carrot and try and get people hooked who weren't this time around.

Absolutely. There's no way they make it easy to get out of or people wouldn't honor it frequently.

That's not how it works, paying over time = paying slightly more, in everything, sometimes a lot more, moaning about $40 in 2 years is laughable.

Ever since PS3 has gotten Netflix and Amazon Instant, I have no need for XBL Gold when I can do the same on my PS3 for free.

Not sure if I'll buy both next gen consoles this round, and if there is only room for one, Microsoft is making PS4 is look better every time I get new info on the next gen Xbox.

Yes but with phones you get a lot of free texts, minutes, free online usage ect that actually add up to balance the cost out in a way.
 
So for the UK we could be looking at a ~£400 for the non-subsidised version plus £40-£60 year for a family LIVE sub? (currently around £30 year)

This would be quite a bit more expensive than the PS3 at launch....:(
 
If this actually works for them I'm gonna cry. People really are that stupid and phones prove it. The only thing worse than a scam subscription is a scam subscription contract.

Not having a subsidized offer won't stop people from using their credit cards to pay for the console in full. People are just dumb in general with money.
 
On second thought, paying an extra $40 over the course of 2 years really isn't the worst thing ever to save $200 upfront. Anyone buying an xbox is going to want to play their games online and will have to pay the online tard tax anyway, so it's pointless to pretend it's a $500 console vs a $660 one.

This may be a really good move if true.

They A: don't do it, and B: don't WANT to do it. They want it now, and will deal with paying more in the long run if it means they get it today. There's entire businesses that thrive on that concept, and it works.
 
Money is worth more in the present than in the future. You don't know what will happen to the economy in two years. You might actually end up saving money. :-)

You get clothing catalouges which burn you for more then that just for some trousers and shirts.
 
People keep posting the $399 PS4 price, is this confirmed? As a pretty staunch MS guy, I'm going to find it hard to justify a new xbox if a full featured PS4 is only $399.

What was is that Paul T. said about the Xbox Live Gold Family Pack returning at the same price as regular XBLG?

How long is the subscription for? What is $299 + £15 per month XBLG? Is it a better buy then the $499 box and buying Gold individually?
 
I don't know man, this really shows them doubling down on XBL. Seriously I don't think I will buy if I cant watch netflix/hulu/hbo go on it without a sub. That's just too expensive. I don't need another $15 a month bill.

Full disclosure I was an avid xboxer up until about a year ago, switched to PC.

probably going to look more closely at PS4 now.
 
Why people think MS would already decided Durango's price that early?

That doesn't make any sense(not talking about the price,talking about already decided the price right now)
 
I think people will buy more xbox 3 upfront due to low cost of entry but once they want to stop paying and realise they are in a contract the WOM will be extremely toxic and the numbers for sales will even out with ps4. Unlike phones people dont buy consoles every 2 years they keep it for 4+ years

Live is not $5 a month. It's discounted if you pay for a year upfront (the opposite of what this subsidized model is aiming for). If you pay monthly, live is $10 a month

Pretty much this, 20 bucks per year to get it financed essentially. I won't do it, but if I was still in college this might have seemed like the way to go.
 
$15 is not a surprise. $10 was actually too good to be true. I think the bigger news here is that it covers your family? I can definitely see people jumping on this.
 
The fact that millions of cell phone consumers still sign up for 2 year contracts just so they can get 200 bucks off their iPhone tells me this will be a great success for Microsoft.

60 / 12 = 5

5 dollars a month


edit: my point was, assuming most people are buying live a year at a time. theyre technically paying 10 a month for the subsidy

You don't think your Credit Card will be required when you sign up for the subsidized deal? You'll get nailed with an early termination fee that's probably larger than what you owe.
 
If they have good exclusive content and deals for that membership price I'm in. For example, include the Xbox Music monthly pass in and be a tad more aggressive with XBL Arcade game deals and that's all I need to make it good deal.

But if you can afford the payments, why would you just buy the lead SKU?

No. It's wishful thinking. I'm sure Sony will make a better machine that's cheaper than MS's but they'll also not incur a lot of debt because Kaz.
 
Since the cheaper unit is basically being financed at a retail difference of only $40 over two years, that is an unbelievably cheap financing rate.

It really isn't that bad of a deal.
