And nothing of value was said.

I bet microsoft is loving the positive PR whilst at the same time saying nothing and making no promises.

Um, what? I'd say something pretty substantial was said...

@aarongreenberg @e3expo let me guess Microsoft will be showing COD, Kinect, and useless apps

Aaron Greenberg ‏@aarongreenberg 17h
@stoopkidrobvee @e3expo ha, nope...keep guessing.

If he's not lying, this is pretty good news for those worried their E3 presser would be a Kinect, app riddled mess.

He still said nothing, all did was say what any sensible person knew. That they would show most of what they had bot hardcore games and stuff from families, services, etc.

You didn't enjoy Black & White or The Movies

B&W was decent, I haven't played The Movies. Neither of those really make up for his lies over the years though.

I don't want to say I hate him, but he's really bloody annoying and for whatever reason, finds it very hard not to spout BS.

Ok - another one from me :
You remember Master_Jo who was banned in the 6-Months-Delay thread?
He was banned because he added "This is not the full story" to Thuways leak of heating problems with devkits.

He contacted me after his ban on Twitter and elaborated on his statement.
It's basically that he works for a big partner (nothing gaming related) of Microsoft and has heard from MS employees, that there are indeed heating issues but that the reason of this is an upgrade of the specs.

I don't know what to make out of this but I guess a mod could confirm if he is really working for an MS partner by the mail address he used for registration.

Its the 2+Ghz for CPU, 1 GHZ for GPU rumor.. obviously!

That would be hilarious if true. GAF would impale itself.

Hah, any sensible person already knew? Almost everyone is expecting the E3 presser to be a Kinect, app, OS fest. His comments are in direct contradiction to those expectations, provided he's not lying.

Would be hilarious, if true. I doubt it is, not saying anyone's lying, but I don't trust random sources any more. Only 18 days left until we learn the truth in any case,

Clock increases causing heat problems, shocking.

Update on the subsidized model:

By the way, I did screw up one thing: The $299 version of Xbox v.Next will come with a $15/mo XBLG subscription, not $10. Sorry about that.

Don't remember the guy but we'd have to hope against expectation that he/she used a work email address to register. Likely or not?

$15 a month? Jesus, are they insane? If it's $15/mo, they need to drop the entry price by at least $100 more.

Is this the "new smaller 360" he is talking about? Those rumors are really conflicting...

Windows 8 in your electronic pants

You're complaining that Microsoft is (rumored) to include the WinRT API on Durango and a Durango SDK for Indie Developers for free? To me this means that Durango will have a much better developer story than PS3. In one announcement they can cleanly negate all this "Sony is better with Indies" talk that NeoGAF loves to propagate. This would open the door for true hobbyist developers to participate in console development on a large scale, and assures that Durango passes the "Minecraft" test:

Kinect Kitchen Aid

As if Sony isn't focusing on Motion Controls also:

True hardcore gaming right there.

"Entertainment" division because Netflix...

Like it or not hardcore gaming is not a large market. Expect both consoles to focus on Entertainment features to try to broaden their consumer base. Yes, I expect Durango to go further than PS4, which is not a bad thing.

thirds party exclusives/dlcs

I fail to see how this is a bad thing for Microsoft's customers. If Durango has the games you want to play then buy it.

Late introduction of console

What... I don't even....

Do they? 15 x 24 = $360. Plus $300 for the console is $660. $500 for the non subscription plus $120 for two years of Live is $620. A $40 difference on a subscription model is fine

Ugh guess he finally realize 360 subscription model also $15 per month

And i can say there is 0% chance MS already decided Durango's price

In the US where subsidized phones are bought by the VAST majority with little thought, I see where this model has potential.

Scenario:

"I really want "y" system but it is $500 dollars. I can do the monthly plan and only be out $315 up front. Besides I should have a new job by then."

Makes sense. Honestly, even though I've already saved up enough to not have to use the contract option I could see going for it just for the added benefit of having an extra $200 to spend on games and extra controllers at launch. $40 difference over 2 years is a pittance.

According to the current rumors the hardware was downclocked from stock setting, clocking them back up shouldn't cause that much of a heat issue.

The standard GCN cards have a huge heatsink mounted to them and aren't a APU
I wouldn't think they will get the standard GCN clock speeds out of them at all.

You can routinely find subs for less than $60 ($40 seems to be the average, you can sometimes find them for less) and it's still $300. A drop to $249 would be more palatable for those choosing the subsidized model. Anything that lowers the entry point to below $300 would be perfect.

$249 is good, $199 with a two year contract is the perfect price point if your aim is to hit the ground running.

I think their aim is to maximize ROI, not help poor people play games.

True enough. Still, having more people invested in your console would help to maximise ROI that much more. People who but the subsidized console would be buying games and with the two year gold sub, be more inclined to keep their console online and buy more DLC/downloadable games, etc.

I don't know why you emphasize "in the US", I live in a European country and it's exactly the same over here.

Well, another person in the same thread posted that the overheating rumors were correct, but old and blown out of proportion, and that both Durango and PS4 suffered from hardware problems at some point in development. He then edited it out of his post (probably just seconds later because nobody but me and a couple other people seemed to notice), only to post everything again a page or two later, but this time in more vague terms, making it look like it's merely his opinion. I don't know what to make of that, but there you go.

Maybe. I don't think there is enough data on what kind of customers the buyers of subsidized consoles would be.

However, if the box requires always online, which is a great way to police late payments and stop resales of consoles before the 24 months are up; and used games aren't allowed, thereby making poor/cheap users into new game buyers, this model could work.

.

Except that short throw away segment of their conference (and the Move sculpting demo) managed to be more compelling than anything that's ever been on Kinect?

Kinect's one 'useful feature' is voice search... and that could be done with your headset if MS wanted to allow it.

Since I ebay'd my kinect I do miss voice search.

Really? I seem to remember the chat room erupting with laughter when this segment came on during the livestream of the announcement. This is the very definition of "waggle", something that GAF purports to despise.

I would love to see attach rates of Kinect vs PS Move. From everything I've heard Kinect seems to be a resounding success.

Yes. Really - compared to the average kinect game this is more compelling is what i said.

I didn't say i thought either were good... this is slightly less shit than anything kinect related.

Given a choice I'd rather have neither... if one has to be forced on me then I'd take Move... it at least has some traditional game applications.

and buttons.

Anyone who thought MS was going to let Sony walk away with better specs were kidding themselves.

I would be blown away if MS presents a 2.5 TFlop machine or something

edit: oh wait it's actually 3.8 tflops (7970)

There are plenty of people who have stacked their LIVE subscription. I wonder how MS will incorporate these current LIVE subs into this subscription.

I would lower my expectations regarding specs, it's just impossible to do major upgrades in such short amount of time (if leaks = real).

I actually don't care about specs at all. As long as the game runs well and has a good IQ, I am all set.

I just want to see fanboy wars...

Surprised nobody made a thread for the spec update...

Reiko, save us. This could be the genuine special sauce.
