i have a pc, ps3 and a 360. dnt mind paying for netflix on the pc nor ps+ on ps3 as i consider both to be great services. i love windows 8 and want a surface pro, so i try not to blindly love/hate any brand/ecosystem if i can help it. i really perfer the 360 controller and menu layout much more than ps3/steam big picture mode - but i am really, really tired of feeling fleeced due to requring xbl gold. i feel like if i thought the service was worth the money then i wouldnt hate myself as much and could get past the mental barrier i have. im in the uk so certain packages arent available to me like the espn one.

If you play multi alot on Xbox is the only reason to keep it.

Anything else you can find on other platforms more easily.

If people have to sell you on anything its not for you. If you have games you want to play online then you will get it.

If you own a PS3 for your Netflix and multiplayer, there really is no need to buy Live.
You're paying to unlock the "online" part of the console. It's not a value service.

Internet Explorer.

You can thank me later.

Seriously, as someone who's been a member for 5 years and just let my sub lapse...

I can't, sorry. You have a PC (and presumably Steam, which is equal to XBL) and a PS3. You're set.

You pay the same as Silver members do for their games, you need to feel more special, so you give Microsoft more money. :)

Do you like the multiplayer xbox exclusives games or do you want play with your friends over xbox live? Then yes get it, was that so hard to figure out?

No, I don't work for Microsoft.

Keep an eye out for 12 month code discounts, they happen all the time. Never pay full price for a year. If you're going to actively play your games online the 360 has the best setup for it. The PS3 did slowly catch up but all the elements feel jury-rigged and patched together. Live is still worth it for me.

It's basically a kickstarter for Microsoft. The kickback is things that are free on every other platform.

If you have friends, you can talk to them while you play. Or, hell, you can even play with them.

That's about all I subscribe for nowadays.

Ugh.

It is pointless.

I exploited a few free codes and cheap subscription cards - and I am subscribed until mid 2016 because of this (for a total of about €50), but it is pointless at full price.

It's worth it if you can get it for free and have no other choice. At anything over $0 it's fleecing you.

XBLG is further proof of the stupidity of humanity.

Until this world is free of AOL & XBLG subscribers, there really is no hope.

This is an easy sell. Do you play online games on Xbox? Do you want to? If the answer to either of those is yes, you buy Xbox Live Gold. If it's no, don't buy it as it is a waste of money if you don't want to play online.

There, you've been sold.

I immediately though that this was an intentional troll/parody of that thread myself.

It's pretty obvious.

But it's still a valid request, and as someone who has a PC hooked up to their television, recently let Xbox Live Gold expire, doesn't miss it at all and feels foolish for ever having subscribed in the first place, I can't think of a single thing to recommend it.
