Speaking of character ins pirations, I wonder who was it that tossed in Final Fantasy XI nods into the game, like "Impossible to gauge" and the (mithra) Warrior AF armor colors on a Nadia palette.
Which in turn lead to a brainfart of me trying to think up of closest possible job combinations that would fit the characters (the concept doesn't really fit some if them, but I did call the whole thing a brainfart):
* Fillia: DRG/WAR - one of the really far-fetched ones, because for starters Samson isn't exactly a dragon, but the dynamics of being expected to use him sort of kinda fit the broad concept of how dragoon as expected to work; as for the warrior bit, well, that's a melee class meant to work in groups, not quite meant to solo, and the concept tends toward being one of many - between relying on Samson (and vice-versa) and being just another of his hosts, that's the closest that comes to mind...
* Cerebella: PUP/WAR - as a performer that relies in a living weapon, it kinda fits (with the minor bonus of daggers being a secondary weapon for puppetmasters in FFXI, which Cerebella sort of uses, even if with her feet...), even if the weaponized accessory is quite different; the WAR factor comes from her roles as acting as muscle for someone else.
* Peacock: PUP/RNG - again, with Avery, Andy and tommy at her disposal, PUP kinda fits; the ranger factor, considering her gameplay, almost goes without saying.
* Parasoul: COR/PLD - another far-fetched case, but having been conceived as a ranged character that's still competent at close range, corsair's the closest I can think of, with the perk that that's also a class meant to enhance a group's abilities, and the with Black Egrets in tow, it sort of fits; as for the paladin factor, it's a class that's all about the protection of others, and considering Parasoul's role toward her country and sister, it fits, and also, PLD's the job that masters swords the most, and that's not unlike how she handles Krieg.
* Nadia Fortune: THF/WAR - one of the obvious ones as she's a career thief, and also kinda funny when you consider in FFXI thief's the only class that guess both triple attack and dual wield natively, her regular attack rounds can accumulate a considerable amount of this, which kinda fits with how big Nadia's combos can get when her head is off; the WAR bit is kinda of a nod back to that WAR AF palette.
* Painwheel: WAR/MNK - brute-forcing your way through things with huge weapons tends to be WAR's thing, not to mention the use of Berzerk kinda fits here; the monk factor is part the east-asian look to her outfit, part her ability to return damage back to opponents, which is a bit different from the MNK Counter ability, but the way that works in FFXI wouldn't be acceptable in a fighting game, since it's automatic and based on probability + stats.
* Valentine: NIN/WHM - the other obvious case, although I haven't heard enough about Last Hope lore to know if the primary focus of their training was healing or offense, in the game proper Valentine is a fighting game ninja(tm); the healer factor is still very there, as she still has the equivalent ability of a white mage's Raise, along with a few debuffs.
* Double: BLU/RDM - blue mages get to use a bit from most living things around them, but in FFXI lore in particular this comes with the risk of turning into an aberration as a possible consequence - Double's already an aberration, but still, given her nature it made sense to have BLU as the main; the red mage factor comes from the fact that that class, much like Double, takes principles from existing separate roles, and comes up with twists that would fit her sources of inspiration, yet are distinctly her own.
* Marie: SMN/BLM - for lack of a necromantic class in FFXI, summoner has to do, and supernatural means are used to get other to fight for her; the black mage factor, despite her lack of visible castin, just seems to fit since she doesn't melee at all, and well, her gameplay cnocept involves manipulating fallan bodies, which FFXI BLMs do with the Tractor spell - which dark knights also have, but those guys melee.
* Squigly: BRD/??? - as an opera singer that puts her singing to use, bard is the natural choice for main, but I frainkly don't know enough about the rest of her gameplay to figure out a suitable sub; dark knight do have a lot in common with the undead in FFXI, and the dragoon/parasite dynamics I mentioned for Fillia could still apply.
* Big Band: PLD/BRD - his role seems to be a protective one, before and after his makeover, so PLD seems to fit; BRD is just natural for how much music is part of his aesthetics.
* Eliza: DRK/BRD - DRKs in FFXI are all about being pricks whose magic specialty is weakening you while making them stronger in the same proportion, essentially draining victims for their benefit, but one of their skills also lets them sacrifice their own HP to deal extra damage, while while not quite how her blood mechanics work, is sort of a more direct version of it with extra initiative, not to mention a DRK's primary weapon is the scythe; as a professional singer for a public façade, BRD as a sub is also fitting.
There, brainfart delivered, can I vote yet?
