Edge doesn't usually screw around with their rumors, similar to Ars.
Ars has a closer relationship to MS and so is a little less trustworthy, but yeah, they both check sources.

RUMOR
I dont know why Paul Thurott RTing this means anything as he was one of the guys saying that online was required. Unless this is him admitting he was wrong.
RUMOR
Didn't he clarify afterwards saying he didn't know either way?
Among the many rumors we had, some claimed that MS had very tight NDAs, even within its own teams, so that some employees couldn't even tell their supervisors what they were working on. I suppose few people got the whole picture, so everybody else may not know or understand everything about it.
So you're thinking there was previously a policy that it would be always-on, and this was altering that? That would be news in and of itself, though I don't think there's any evidence for that.
Supposed email.
Wait were are taking this at its word when other rumours are treated as not fact. Lets wait and see first eh.
I am somewhat thrown, I also thought the motto was nothing is confirmed until we get an official statement from Microsoft.Wait were are taking this at its word when other rumours are treated as not fact.

Came to say what has already been said:
I find highly disturbing that Microsoft has to explain this kind of information to their own employees working on the Xbox.

He took it back later and said he actually didn't know.
You're so ready to believe negative rumours. Why are you so reluctant to believe positive ones?
All of those rumors didn't materialize out of thin air and I highly doubt Edge was talking out of their ass.
So who's giving these employees tasks to work on?

Exactly, so him RT'ing it, means nothing.
People are mad lol. The next Xbox is doomed crowd has less to talk about now.
Of course it's not always online. Perfect distraction from people realizing that paying for LIVE is a fucking scam. Well played MS.

so the question now is, who is lying, the "trusted sources" or this email?

Some have already moved on:
Bad News = Set in stone
Good News = This is just a RUMOR!!!
Pretty much. It's the opposite though with Sony.Bad News = Set in stone

Does it matter when we're so close to having definitive answers when the system is revealed in two weeks?
and yes playing a single player game
Much of the negativity surrounding Durango was tinged with the defeatist observation that, despite all rumored malice, the uninformed masses would make the console sell like hotcakes.People are mad lol. The next Xbox is doomed crowd has less to talk about now.

Good. Now I need to justify to my wife why I need this in addition to the PS4.
Hmm... Got any tips?
I am very glad. Hopefully not even publishers have the balls to do this kind of shit. Specially Capcom, they seem to do that with some PSN games.
But Sony is in that list, wouldn't they get royalties?
