DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

I will try and answer what I can here, but as pointed out in this thread I'm not able to answer too many questions just yet.

Anything which has been announced/talked about already I can respond to, but anything else will unfortunately have to wait for the time-being.

Rushy, does the live streaming support Twitch.TV output? Will your game offer wheel support? If so, can we use our PS3 wheels?

The only question that matters is.... 30 or 60 fps? :D

Since damage doesn't affect how the vehicle will operate, will you have to spend monies to fix your vehicle, if damaged.

Completely serious! This is the only question that matters.

Skimmed threw the thread. But I only have 2 questions. Is this more of an arcade racer or a simulation? Can you drive in 3rd person?

This is shaping up to be spectacular. Evolution always did a stellar job with the WRC and Motorstorm series, I've full confidence that they will deliver.

Team GAF will own the roads.

A buddy asked this question Rushy: if damage doesn't affect handling, is there any reason for drivers not to "ride" the sides of another car to aggressively power through turns without slowing down, or is that technique fine since this isn't a sim racer? Maybe penalties to money earned for doing stuff like that?

I think it should be cleared already if this game will be 30/60 fps and wheel support.
We already know it will be mix of sim-arcade.

If you will wait up with this you risk a lot of angry people later. Some people simply does not accept racing games @ 30fps.

Personally i wouldn't mind solid 30+ fps if this is like pgr or nfs but if it is more like sim then 60fps is must.

Previous Evolution studios games were all 30fps and it didn't take away from the experience. All games can be enjoyed at 60fps and 30fps. It's just people who make these arbitrary rules about the gaming having to be 60fps to tow the "sim" line.

Given DriveClub isn't a pure sim and is semi-open world, I'd expect it to be 30fps. As long as it's locked or doesn't drop below 30fps, I'm fine.

Stop making up arbitrary rules.

60fps or bust

30/60 isn't arbitrary rule. 30 fps is lowest it can go before it will look for most people choppy. I personally think devs should at least target 35-40 fps minimum

EDGE have now posted their article online complete with a few new screenshots:

Higher-res images are available over at EDGE online.

Nice pics. Lighting looks more real than the Gameinformer pics.

I thought you either target 30 or 60 because it syncs with the refresh of tvs and monitors, and because of this, 35-40 looks worse than 30... unless... triple buffering? Hopefully someone can help me out here.

Nope GOW3 is 40-50 fps and looks mighty fine.

35 looks always better than 30 same as 40 46 50 60 70 etc

That is absolutely not the case on my PC. Only 30 and 60 look smooth. Above 60 and it looks awful. 90 looks kinda ok - feels maybe slightly more responsive than 60 but kinda judders a little like 30. 120 looks great, like 60 but with less tearing (I have a 60Hz monitor)

The only time in-between framerates look good is if I force triple buffering.

Perhaps GOW3 has triple buffering?

I still think that WRC 4 topped everything before and after it, I've played that game to death.

A wide range of drive-able camera views will be available including 3rd person.

Regarding all of the other questions hopefully we'll share more about DRIVECLUB closer to E3...

O_o

I thought this would be a first person game only. What was the First Person talk about then?

It does.

I don't think it does.

In terms of post-processing effects, the game is given an additional boost in realism thanks to an impressive implementation of motion blur. Superficially, it's a similar system to that seen in previous technological showcases like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Killzone 2, and helps to smooth some of the judder caused by a frame-rate that can vary between anything from 30 frames per second to 60.

They just cover up any judder from double buffering.

Yeah you notice difference between 90 and 120 on your 60hz screen.

And lol at "only" 30 or 60 can be smooth. I played ton of games at 40 and all of them were much much smoother than 30.

IF you are playing at 59 fps 1 frame out of 60 will "miss" but it is not something that can be perceived easily

Is there any pictures of the cars in a race? I usually don't do driving games but Most wanted on WiiU was a blast so I might give this a try if I have to choose between this, that toblerone-robot-game and Killzone at launch day.

I'd love to say this is a stupid question but you never know with next gen so here goes, does anyone know if this has a single player/campaign mode or atleast an offline mode?.

Come on, folks. 60fps is a pipe dream. We are talking ancient hardw...

Oh.

How many times has it been pointed out to you know that fps on consoles has little do with hardware and is more of a design choice?

If the ps4 had a geforce titan most developers still would still try to squeeze every once and make their game 30 fps.

I know. And it's a fucking odd 'design choice' on hardware that should be powerful enough to satisfy both the screenshot whores AND the framerate whores at the same time. Surely the balance can be better managed in a driving game (on uber-powerful hardware, no less) where framerate is vitally important to the overall experience?

On PS3, their five PS2 games ran at 60FPS.

Driveclub is 30FPS, just watch the official trailer, if it was 60FPS why would they gimp encode it at 30?

BF4 reveal was encoded at 30fps even though it ran 4K at 60fps. Almost all GT5 and Forza trailers are encoded in 30fps. It's because it's easy to run (depending on resolution). But that's besides the point.

Nothing has been confirmed by the devs themselves and I wouldn't be surprised if it's 30fps.
