Not much. Back home now from the days of living in a hotel :) hence my time on GAF is taken a (huge) hit as well.

Yeah looking forward to the 21st as well. Hopefully it's a good show. The news from then on till after the E3 should make GAF more livelier.

id prefer it make GAF more bearable.

Yeah, I remember you being in a hotel with spotty internet when the Adam Orth stuff was happening. Timing couldn't have been more perfect really, lol. And yes, between the reveal and E3 is going to be bananas. Then E3 week? Oh man, I can't wait.

11 Days lets go!

I don't really know what to expect but I'm hoping for somethings out of left field that will blow people's minds.

That's why they invented helmets. :D

Event should be great, really looking forward to it.

They could have the best conference of all time, announce a machine twice as powerful as ps4 to boot, and GAF wont be happy. set your expectations low.

GAF would just complain that the power is going to be wasted on Kinect and crappy apps...

Hype am rising.

The house of halo was built on hardcore gamers.

they won't let us down.

also the stakes are massive with them going head to head... They will come out dual wielding

- Some guy (who Sameer refers to as "the Xbox guy," I assume he works for MS) asks about how low-end android devices will become hypercompetitive on the market in terms of price and commodity. He gives an answer, and then Andrew asks him back, Are you concerned at MS that all these low-end consoles will flood the market? And the MS guy says he can't say anything until May 21. Dude answered pretty seriously for a half joke question.

A crazy thing:

What if the Durango specs are not just for a console? what if the hardware can grow or shrink, adapting them to several devices, making it smaller and with less power (tablet) or bigger and powerful (console), and games can be played on all of them, using same binary but auto-adapting to the hardware? I know, it is insane, but it could be amazing. xD

Similar to how PC games have different quality settings? It would be difficult for Microsoft to convince developers to test their games on an array of different devices.

Simultaneous release on PC with support for Oculus Rift and Illumiroom and.... Wait for it.... Microsoft Sidewinder Pro Deluxe featuring detached throttle and rudder pedals.

Maybe the game would the same in all targets, I remember some guy at B3D saying devs are programming in VMs (Virtual Machines), with 5GB (the real machine have more ram). And somebody here in NEoGAF said MS is requesting not going to low level and working only with the API.

I know, it is so crazy =P

God I am such a nerd. I don't have ANY desire in buying the new Xbox. Don't enjoy any of the Xbox exclusive IP's. Am not impressed with Xbox Live. BUT I am so freaking hyped for the reveal. Ugh. I'm on the hype train... choo choo

The VMs are there for security, ability to suspend on a whim, and because the OS has its own CPU... The gaming hardware is separate

This backs up that all games install from disc and the devs don't have access to the optical drive

What this means for us? Well... If a game crashes, it won't take the whole system with it, for one. It has no benefit to tablets... However I expect games to be playable on a tablet (likely a win8 one) over wifi... Streaming video and all that jazz

My idea was insane, I know it xD

For security the can go with the sandbox mode, just like Windows Phone, I guess it is not needed to force a VM execution. The ability to suspend is not restricted to VM.

Nah but its easier to do it

In theory with a VM, you wouldn't have to specifically code for suspension I think... It can be handled by the OS

I'd like to agree with you... but the handling of Halo has been questionable. I suspect there is a very real chance we'll be let down.

That said - I expect a strong effort from MS. Two generations now, they've done a pretty great job at selling a strong (if not, the strongest) console with some great online features and a good line up of games. If a bunch of senior people hadn't up and left the Gaming Division I'd likely be ready to buy day one already. As it stands - we'll see.

Paul Thurott on WW podcast:
* Nextbox will have 500GB
* There's going to be a logo change

Mary Jo:
* always on/line on nextbox = connected standy on win8

Does the updated 360 logo on that invite card count as "new"? Maybe that's not it at all.

500GB HDD is disappointing. Was hoping for 1TB.

I hope the new logo is this one:

Fits with the new Windows 8 theme and all, and I think it's conservative and simplistic enough without being dumb. Is also like a slightly more minty green like in the image above, though obviously it wouldn't be exactly the same.

So in other words it's a always online atmosphere but can be played offline if needed?

Also thanks for the reminder on WW going to listen to it now.

I don't like it, looks like a Xbox branded subway system logo.

Have to keep the costs down, like it or not 500GB can still take a chunk of money from other more needing parts in a console. Skydrive should help make up for the missing space.

That does not fit the new icons at all, too round and playful. I am going to be sad if it's that one.
They kept the IE logo, which is round. Also consider how it may look as a positive rather than the negative on the image.

Goddamn, your right it kinda does.

With regards to your first paragraph, in other words people still can't use the right or clearer terminology and just lump everything under "always online" which has a DRM implication.

So i remember win8 don't require online to boot up or play single player games right?

I don't have the OOB experience on the new Win 8 machine, but I supposed that you need the internet for the first boot to login into your account so you can have the full experience (buying apps, email, live tiles, etc).

I think it's obvious the nextbox will require you to be online for the full experience (just like 360), especially if the dash support live tiles (pure speculation)

I haven't tried installing Windows 8 without a internet connection but I really doubt it requires a internet connection.

Goddamn, your right it kinda does.

Xbox Subway: Train late? Deal With It.
Xbox Subway: Trains are always online... if you know what I mean.

That is absolutely not the case and I'm not sure where anyone would get that idea. If that was the case, this always online outrage would've been a big deal over a year ago and on a much greater scale.

It doesn't lose core functionality if your not connected to the Internet, and I doubt the new Xbox will either.

Ugh none of them you can do it offline in other windows,it's like you saying it require online to play multiplayer games

I don't love that logo, but what makes me think it might be the one is the "new way to play." We are seeing the "new" Xbox.

Yeah, the rumors were 500 or 640 GB for Durango and PS4 both. Doesn't surprise me.

It's nice to see these huge HDD's. They'll also be faster due to utilizing a single platter presumably.

It'll also signal to the casuals "next gen is here" as dumb as that sounds, with a big number compared to current gen HDD's.

I don't get what this has to do with getting a full experience or requiring Internet for full functionality. This is just low power state stuff.

It is a low power state but with networking connectivity, the network adapter will be "alive" and can receive a signal from a server, for example a system update, a friend message, streaming music from the console to another device, etc. and can wake up the machine.

People in this thread know things and aren't saying.

That's very upsetting.

Come on... its Friday.... throw us a frigging bone.

Are Sony going to be eating crow? The baying horde must have answers... or something.

....

.... anyone? :)
