People in this thread know things and aren't saying.

That's very upsetting.

Come on... its Friday.... throw us a frigging bone.

Are Sony going to be eating crow? The baying horde must have answers... or something.

....

.... anyone? :)

They already are eating crow, seriously for all the crap talked about the new Xbox I don't think there is a enough crows in the world.

Not right now they ain't...

The fact is we won't know how 'well' Sony have done until we see Infinity revealed. it could be further ahead than any of us know... about the same... or miles behind ( extremes at either end being unlikely).

They could have the best conference of all time, announce a machine twice as powerful as ps4 to boot, and GAF wont be happy. set your expectations low.

Yeah the goalposts will change to "mandatory Kinect? lol", "there's no way MS can be as good as Sony in terms of first party titles" and "I'm not paying for Live! the MS devil can fuck off!".

On another note I'm pretty bored of the hardware talk lately, we don't have any new rumors to talk about so we are mostly stuck in a cycle of wishful thinking from some guys that expect better specs than what the rumors suggest and the opposite side saying that an upgrade is not possible...I think it's time to see some leaks about games, not expecting much maybe till a few days or hours before the show but hopefully we hear more things about actual titles in the coming days. Hardware and tech talk is cool and all but software is where it's getting interesting.

There is nothing to leak. Trust me, I am a Windows Phone user.

pls guys can someone with hardware skills explain me this...im reading this on another forum and would understand if is plausible or not

why in vgleaks durango diagram each SC (shader cores) have 64-way L1 cache of 16 KB, composed of 256(long) 64-byte cache lines?

"Each shader core has a local 64-way L1 cache of 16 KB, composed of 256 64-byte cache lines"

and on AMD GCN White Papers.....

is

"L1 instruction cache that is 4-way associative and backed by the L2 cache. Cache lines are 64B long"

http://www.amd.com/la/Documents/GCN_Architecture_whitepaper.pdf

can someone pls explain ? (is the second time i ask :( )

1. you should ignore anything that mistercteam posts.

2. you should ignore anything that anybody that support mistercteam or misterxteam posts.

you are right.. but that has never ever stopped the gaming leaks in the Past.. why now..?

Microsoft have (or think they have) something truly innovative and have increased security to unprecedented levels.
It's reported that even people working on Durango only know about the stuff they're working on, work in tents separating them from the other engineers and are controlled with webcams.
Since everyone is apparently working on a small part of the whole picture, if something leaks you're easy to track.

And a lot of those people 'think' they are working on Durango, but they really aren't.
They are paid to code and design random stuff MS will throw away and are really only there to spread conflicting rumors, to bury the truth even deeper. *

In addition to that, all devkits are different. Some are powerpc based, some have jaguar, some have a 8870, some have 3 titans. Even devs don't know the truth. **

Then again, maybe the old leaks are completely accurate and we've known everything there is to know for a while, which would make it the worst kept secret in the industry ever.

* i might have just made this up
** yep, i totally did

Paul Thurott on WW podcast:
* Nextbox will have 500GB
* There's going to be a logo change

Mary Jo:
* always on/line on nextbox = connected standy on win8

500gb seems small for a console that has mandatory installs. That's like 10 50gb games or 20 25gb games. Should have gone with a 1tb hard drive.

If they do intend to ship with a 500gb hard drive, they had better no be using proprietary hard drives.

Also, who is Mary Jo and what does connected standby in Win8 mean? It can update, etc when the console is in standby but doesn't actually require a persistent connection to work?

The internal e-mail about always online.. if that isn't crow eating it's at least crow cooking prep.

possibly... But when did any company you work for ever send a memo to employees saying hey, you know that plan we had all along, well just carry on.

the fact they had to send a memo suggests that either the plan has changed or they created the memo for pr purposes.

it lends weight to more of the rumours being true IMO.

I am buying one to play halo no matter what... So I just want it to be as awesome as possible.

unlike PC land that doesn't just mean a faster gpu.

unless the last time you launched a home console you fucked it and have decided to build a stripped down PC so investors don't crucify you.

I can already see it May 21st one big table full of crow. One event to determine who has to eat them watch it at 10:00 AM

Connected standby is basically what your phone does when you turn the screen off, so it continues to update any background processes (email, push notifications etc).

I've got this sinking feeling that Microsoft will have purified the "hardcore" gaming sections of the announcement down to guns and explosions exclusively. It'll be hardware, services, family friendly kinect garbage, and guns n' splosions, nothing else. Same for E3.

God I'm tired of guns and explosions, got my fingers crossed for something unexpected.

Didn't the guy from customer service deny ever receiving such email ?
Also said not to believe the rumors, which i'm sure is what the company told him, certainly not his initiative.

I'm Team Crow

IF MS strikes with specs > PS4, I'll eat as many as I can.
I'll be in japan during the reveal and I can tell you there are a lot of crows over there.

Kinect, always-online etc...I don't care.
I'll buy for exclusive IPs anyway, and I have fiber for internet access.

But 720>PS4. i don't believe it one second. too many leaks. too many good leaks.
Or MS simply broke the bank at last minute. and, man, to switch gears at the last minute, that's a mighty hole in the bank for MS. and would be all the better for me.

Crow will be eaten by someone regardless of the outcome, however who knows how much Microsoft will reveal that day. It may not be enough to reach a conclusion.

well ok ..but is just to understand ...

theres an answer?

and going trough it why vgleaks write

"A SIMD executes a vector instruction on 64 threads at once in lockstep."

this should imply that standing at their diagram where every SC (shader cores) is divided in 4 simds.......we should have 256 threads per SC !?!?!?!?

vgleaks txt is wrong ?!?!

(ps. im really not supporting misterx or whatever..im just asking to understand ..seen that here there r a lots of ppl with hardware skills)

Like everyone else said this e-mail is less for people working on Durango and more for the bad rumors that spread on the internet. This is a controlled leak and there is no doubt about that.

Didn't the guy from customer service deny ever receiving such email ?

Why would a guy in customer service get one, it was only sent to people working on Durango.

we will never know... Microsoft is always "Not commenting on rumors".. so your guess is as good as his.

I'm not guessing I'm just repeating what ArsTechnica said.

Microsoft officially doesn't comment on rumors but this wasn't official and controlled leaks are known to happen.

And why would one of them choose to only leak this piece of info when there has been many that are damaging?

They have been locked down.

What happened here is that MS were planning to be 'online only' saw the backlash on social media (if i can access stats on every single conversation had about my business online, including indications on positivity or negativity, then you can bet MS has it x1000), and decided not to break silence as that would open floodgates and they weren't ready to reveal more... so decided to work with their PR firm to get the new out.

Original Xbox games I want a secuel:

Microsoft, please!

Hold thine horses son.

THaaaaaats better. Especially as someone beat me to Midtown Madness 3. Why has there not been any more Midtown Madness, Microsoft? WHY?

And yes, I am the guy who bought GBTG. I am single handedly behind Rare's downfall.

Redshift yes.... ghoulies... was utterly, utterly shit.

Edit: Xbox box art was very often disgusting, wasn't it?

Edit: next someone will be claiming brute force was a good game and needs a sequel. lol

No matter what people talk and when you send the same e-mail to everyone working on Durango it's kind hard to catch exactly who leaked it...

you genuinely think it was a real memo and a real leak?

in that case you also have to accept that they were planning always online - else there is nothing to update people about on your durango team.

And if that rumour was credible, then the same sources also talked about the spec and other issues.

it´s not like Arstechnica has a perfect track record for Rumors ...

No I don't, not at all, the only thing I have to accept is that there was a rumor mill about always online going on and Microsoft wanted it dealt with and nothing more.

You do understand what a controlled leak is right? This leak was done to deal with the always-online rumor and nothing more.

Well, actually I did. Blizzard.

Every once in a while, there've been rumours coming up. (About WoW, about SC, Diablo III was a hot contender as well.)
Not every employee knows everything about upcoming features, expansions or titles and when the community/press brew a hot rumour soup and people started to write mails and tickets (e.g. in WoW) regarding certain topics/rumours, there have been several scenarios accompanied by an email with following content:
"Hey guys, you might have heard about rumour XY. Here are the facts..." Concluding with either
a) "This is confidential, don't talk about it with non-employees/in public."
b) "Feel free to provide this information to anyone who asks about it"

While option b) was far less common, both scenarios happen.

This was indeed an amazing game. So many memories.

They've lost the IP now if I'm not mistaken or did they allow someone to develop a new title on PC? I forget.

They allowed the original developers to have the IPs, wish they would make a deal for a exclusive Mech Assault game on console considering it's not being used now.

They could use the current Mech Warrior engine, it would be awesome.

If anyone here hasn't tried out MechWarrior Online I highly recommend it.

Idk if its necessarily true that if you believe the memo then required online was at some point a reality. The way I see it, if the memo does indeed exist, a scenario could exist where a majority of the team was hearing rumors about the required online including team members who were not privy to design decisions like that (say, interface design folks, or the controller designers, etc) and they might have begun to get worried about the viability of the console. In that scenario it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility that MS would send an internal memo essentially soothing people's worries.

You know what would be a fucking megaton?

Solid state drives. Honestly I wouldn't even care if they drove the price up. Long term, it would be fucking awesome.

A combination of extra ram and ssd would basically all but eradicate loading times. Ooooooooohhqhhhh yeah.
