While most of these games were shit, you can say the same stuff (more of the same, not setting the world on fire) about Halo 4 or Forza too. 2012 wasn't that great for both.

On the other hand Sony clearly owns 2013, but mostly for the fact that MS abandoned this gen. Hope it translates into great next gen games.

I don't think those games are shit, I'm just making a point that he has no idea what he's talking about, and is talking out of the side of his neck at this point. He's bringing up rehashes of past series and indie games that were moneyhatted by Sony, not to mention a "new" IP that is new in name alone.

I liked the TM beta; I liked the beta/demo for Starhawk; I liked Forza Horizon; Halo 4 looks rad (haven't played it yet) I don't have a problem with MSony moneyhatting games to make them exclusive; what I don't like is when people keep on spouting hypocritical BS AND use examples that are the exact same things of what they were complaining about.

The difference is that first party games give insight into the future of the console, not just the present. For example, we know even before they announced the system that PS4 is going to get games from Naughty Dog, Polyphony, etc. Back in 2005, we knew the 360 was going to get a game from Bungie. 3rd party developers hold no guarantees for the future. They could go multiplat like Bungie has now, or Insomniac, or they could go exclusive to another system.

What do we know that we are getting from the next XBOX? I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

Perhaps it doesn't really matter, but I think it's first parties that help give each console and each brand an identity.

And we know we're going to get games from 343, Rare, Turn10, Black Tusk, Twisted Pixel etc. on the Nextbox.

so ms allowing more people to play great games is bad?

according to your own rules, aren't Sony the bad guy for denying anyone without a ps3 access to those exclusives? Aren't they adding nothing to the gaming landscape?

I always found that weird people say ms has no exclusives because their games sometimes go on the PC which I find nothing wrong with

That's the thing. We know that we're getting good third party support for the next Xbox. Sure, we don't know the specifics, but we know that Activision are throwing CoD at it, we know EA are almost certainly putting something unique on it just by lieu of the fact they've been somewhat AWOL for both Nintendo and Sony at big press junkets and Epic are surely throwing something together too.

That's ignoring the fact that MS still has first party studios too like Rare, Turn 10, Playground, Twisted Pixel, etc.

it helps ms because they have a vested interest in windows maintaining a gaming advantage over linux/mac, obviously.

instead of saying "pc gaming" say "microsoft windows gaming" to get the idea lol.

The same Halo 4 that was the fastest selling Halo game of all time?

The funny part of this is how people complain about Microsoft doing nothing on the PC side but when Microsoft does bring something over from Xbox people complain that it's no longer exclusive to Xbox...

I thought the major criticism of Halo 4 was that it wasn't more the same? Also like Officerrob says above it's the fastest selling Halo ever so much for not setting the world on fire.

Mark of the Ninja doesn´t count as an exclusive because it´s not 360 exclusive, you can get it on PC. You don´t get Yakuza anywhere else than on the PS3, therefore it´s exclusive. Not that hard to grasp is it?

My explanation regarding the developers and Microsofts politics were more about the value they add to the gaming landscape and less about the term exclusive.

In fact it's hard to grasp because you change what you're saying in every new post...the fact that you somehow care about the gaming landscape and you bring up it's negative aspects of paid non-1st party exclusives only by MS's side is hilarious though.

Im pretty sure Halo 4 and Forza:Horizon were great games.
Only problem with Halo 4 was it wasn't a good Halo game for the old school fans.

Well i guess we'll have to wait and see what studios like Black Tusk, Lift, Victoria, Big Park, Platform Next, Skybox and MS LA studio brings to the table next gen.

True. Some good stuff in there, and some unproven devs. Good talent, at least. Of course, with Rare, you can't really say we know what we're going to get with them. Kinect? Kameo sequel? (no chance on the second one, but I'd like to see it)

In kind, I'd love a Nuts and Bolts sequel, but yeah... hard to know which way MS will point Rare next.

There's nothing wrong at all, it's great they're available on PC. And of course it's wrong Xbox has "no exclusive" anyway.

People just say PC / Xbox games don't add much value to Xbox for anybody who's already got a PC (like most people here in Europe at least). That's common sense.

If I can just buy the (superior) PC version of that game, why should I buy a Xbox instead ?

And how could I call them "xbox exclusives" since I can play them on another platform ?

As Microsoft, you need to give me reasons to buy the platform.

Even if every Xbox game was on PC I doubt it would've slowed the X360 down too much, people with gaming computers make up a very small part of the population.

I have some friends on Steam that won't get a console just because of the graphical difference no matter the games on Xbox or Playstation.

Well, they're Microsoft exclusives. It's Xbox or Windows. Either way, it's Microsoft.

Not here in continental Europe, a lot of people have gaming computers where I live. It could partly explain why Xbox was not as successful here as it was in the US.

For me, I definitely want to buy both PS4 and Nextbox, but I need to see games I can't play on platforms I already own. Crossing my fingers for the reveal.

What's all this crow eating talk about? Has there been a spec bump? As for as I know, most of the industry already confirmed the months old VGLeaks specs.

I agree but it's irrelevant for me when I decide if I buy a Xbox or not.

I'm not a MS or Sony shareholder, I'm a gamer.

I buy a Xbox if it has games I can't already play on the platforms I already own. Same thing for PS4 by the way.

I came very close to buying a Xbox 360 for Mass Effect because I loved Bioware and Knights of the Old Republic. But just as I was about to buy it, the PC version was announced...

Anyway I think they will have a lot great looking games to show, Epic and Crytek are known for their tech so their games should look awesome. I am expecting Ryse and Epic's new IP to blow people away. All the negativity surrounding MS will go away once they show those games

I always figured some gamers don't have the proper rigs to have that quality PCM experience, I think with a console you can enjoy the same experience as everyone else and play some of the games your current rig can't play, I don't think to much people have good gaming pcs

Behind the times a little?

Online Only stuff and a bunch other rumors like no used games.

Does somebody know by chance who was the first who reported on the 360 name?

That's a long time ago and the sources and journalists wouldn't be the same.

So, who believes that there will be leaks starting next week? I do. :-)

I think if Microsoft feels enough pressure, they will do a controlled leak of a game, probably Alan Wake 2 or PGR. Perhaps some end-user UI stuff, but I think MS is being really really protective.

Does somebody know by chance who was the first who reported on the 360 name?

I believe it was Gamereactor who did it after being at the pre-briefing for Europe the week before the reveal. From what I know, there hasn't been a pre-briefing this time, so chance of leaks is smaller this time.

If that was the case the 360 would of bombed long ago
There are a lot of people that don't bother with PC gaming. But if someone has a PC that they game on and 90% of 360 exclusives show up on PC that person has no real reason to buy a 360 unless they're really excited about that other 10%.

Behind times a lot man. I can't keep up with all this. So the only reason people are all pro MS now and expect them to trump Sony is because of scrapped online only and no used games? From the tone of this thread, I expected that plus a significant spec bump. Oh well.

Iirc the name never leaked

But my memory could be hazy on this

I expect Microsoft to trump Sony because they are Microsoft

The reality is that PC gamers are PC gamers. I didn't move over to consoles because of their exclusive games, I moved over to consoles because I was fed up of spending more time tinkering with my PC settings and drivers to get games to work, than I was actually playing games. I know things have greatly improved since then, but I'm too old for that shit. I just want to plonk on the couch, turn the console on and play a game. I don't give a shit if it has a better framerate or resolution on the PC. Even now, lots of games on STEAM still don't fully support controllers. And to make the games support controllers, you have to use another app to map the controller to the keys etc. It's all a big fucking waste of my time. I just want to play the damn game. Shit, I hate PC gaming! I'm 31 now and it's not for me. When I was a student however, I wouldn't game on anything other than a PC. But that's because I had infinite time on my hands and didn't associate PCs with work.

I know 1 thing fo sure, they'll have to drop some serious bombs to pull me away from glorious IQ and 60FPS. That said, a new PGR, alan wake and some sort of new fps ip would probably get me to buy the new xbox.

Why do people need reasons like that to prefer Xbox?

Someone who didnt bought a X360 because of this, missed PDZ, Crackdown, PGR, Halo 3, Reach, ODST and Halo 4, Gears of War 2, 3 and Judgment, Forza 2, 3 4 and Horizon, Fable II, Lost Odyssey, Kinect.

For sure those people had the same experience as a X360 owner. An Xbox without Halo, Gears, Forza, Kinect. They are just 10% of an Xbox.

I guess it also depends on how far in the future you look. If a game is available for a full year on a console...to me that is MORE than enough to make me buy it if I want it. I don't worry that far in the future if a game I can play now is going to suddenly be available elsewhere. Same with any games appearing on PC. I most likely am not going to wait a full year to play it. Now if they are released day and date then it might make me think about which version. But worrying is not something in my DNA when it comes to what may happen a year down the road to a game I can play now.

lol @ the responses in that thread.

Although that's nothing compared to the "Wii" name announcement thread.

Yeah, it's strange that people discount the value of timed exclusives. It's the main reason people go to the cinema. It's the reason people buy or rent DVD/Blu-Rays instead of waiting for them to show up on Netflix on the TV.

By the time they hit another platform 12 months later, they're old hat. As evidenced by the sales of games like Bioshock and Mass Effect hitting the PS3.

Also, the GTA games were timed exclusives on PS2. It didn't do the PS2 any damage when they came out on Xbox later on though. Everyone associated GTA with PS2 because it hit that platform first.

you are too young to complain so much!!

me, not unlike you, I slowly left my pc gaming stuff when original xbox was out.
it did the job as you say. and transition to 360 was quick enough before the fat xbox got too boring..
but the last couple of years, if you had a good pc and played your games on either console, you simply where missing out. resolution, framerate, textures, speed, you name it.

its not as big of a hassle as it was 10 years ago to maintain a speedy gaming pc, and if your choices are basically to stick with a reasonably underpowered machine for the next 5-7 years, then maybe you should look for more options.
you are not too old to pc. nobody is ;)

*Shrugs* we all have little things that bother us I guess. But for me it has never, nor will it ever, mean anything if something may happen, perhaps, possibly some time in the nebulous future. I don't have time to worry about that.
