Anyone else curious what the splash screen/logo animation will be when you first turn on the new Xbox?

That new console smell..
 
I like the old logo, but this one is nice too and works together with Microsoft's Modern UI image.

I wonder how this will translate to the controller's guide button though?

Definitely. I love all the little things that are new.
 
I like all of those hues. I prefer a more emerald-y one like the middle one though.

Yeah that's always one of the cool things to get excited about. Something I also think they probably put a lot of effort into making memorable.

I don't even think I've seen Wii U's yet.
 
I wonder if they'll use smaller cases since it's Blu-Ray? I guess the fact that it's Blu-Ray doesn't matter but that's just something I was thinking about. Hope the cases still stay green.

Hell... When I got my Saturn on Christmas bundled with Sega Rally, I was floored. Good times.

My guess : smaller, a darker green and not that transparent compared to the 360 boxes.
 
I hope they use the BR cases but with no logo band on the art itself

Logo chromed like blu ray at the top, dark green transparent

Kinect games purple with logo and kinect chromed at the top

That would mean nice beautiful box arts

Pfft, I don't get to see the splash screen when I turn on my 360. By time the HDMI handshake is over with my receiver, it says Xbox 360 then boots to dash. Only device I have with the delay too. My PS3 and Blu-ray player both instant booted on screen.

And I think some are reading too much into the slightly altered Xbox 'sphere' logos. I doubt the next Xbox logo will be that close at looking like the Xbox 360 logo.

Weird, my Xbox refuses to turn on without the handshake

If I press the button and my tv isn't on, it doesn't boot

When I turn my TV on, then it starts the splash screen animation

If I turn my 360 on without the receiver turned to the HDMI input 360 is in, it won't boot. But if it's selected and then I turn on the 360, it just takes a moment before showing on screen. I just miss the animation but catch the logo.
 
Paul Thurrott said that the new logo was just a minor tweaking so I'm guessing that flat logo is what we're going to see.

EDIT: Okay now he makes it sound like it's getting changed even more. But very minor stuff.

The green inset isn't as bright nor does the glow itself extend as far out and the green is a different shade. They also slightly changed the angle of the X and the extensions don't close off as quickly towards the bottom of the sphere. Likewise at the top there is no longer an indention.

There has been rumors of the Next Xbox launching in September... or at least rumors of that being what MS (originally) planned.

I think it would be huge since all of the hype from E3/Gamescom would go straight into the launch of the system.

They would need games though (obviously). PGR5, Madden NFL 25, and a slightly improved next-gen version of GTA IV at launch would be enough for a lot of people to get one in September.

And while it would only be 2 or so months ahead of the PS4 launch, many people would get the Xbox just due to it being the first next gen console and MS would get people locked into their ecosystem -- possibly making things hard for users to leave based on whatever new XBL features they introduce.

I think a September launch would be good too since the Next Xbox wouldn't get games (such as Battlefield 4) a month or two after the current gen consoles.

But yeah, we'll see.
 
I'm sure that flat logo will be what they use. Especially considering that "Xbox" has transcended games and now their entertainment brand to include music and video.
 
The flat logo has already been in use on Windows and Windows Phone for the past few months. I can't see Microsoft radically redesigning it.

Have there actually been September launch rumors? All I've seen is a bunch people say September would be good to target, I actually haven't seen any indications that September is being targeted.

The biggest difference I think between the current Xbox logo and the new one is that the new one is based 100% on vector elements where the current logo is a mix of vectors and bitmap image (the green glow within the orb is a bitmap image). That's only my suggestion, but it would make print much easier.

That article talks about the 'Oban' chip which has nothing to do with Durango and therefore debunks it.

This has been talked about many times here, seems we're going around in circles.

I'm not saying that, just that the article means nothing.

Last time two consoles launched in the same month? Wii and PS3. And before that, GameCube and Xbox.

So, the last two generations basically.

I never posted the article trying to say that it did mean something.

The article mentioned that MS desired a September 2013 launch. -- I was bringing up how some of the rumors about a September launch were made by people.
 
Yeah September sounds likely. They're just going all in at E3. It will lead to great sales initially, but hopefully it won't be rushed and suffer from software/hardware problems.

I called September some time ago. It may not happen, but it makes sense. GTA V delay was what got me thinking about it.
 
All this talk of PGR is making me want to play it again but I realised that I never played PGR 4. How was that game. I loved PGR 3.
