Those are pretty bad examples. The PS Vita does not have the same games as the 3DS, it was released later and is more expensive. The PS4/Xbox 3 will have almost the same third-party titles. Android phones/tablets are very popular, and many people use them for games. And Alienware laptops? They are costing thousands of dollars.

All are more powerful, all have similar prices to their competitors, and all sell poorly.

???

One of these is not like the others. Like at all lol. A lot of people own Android devices. A lot.

And it does matter. Not so much on a hardware level but later on when a good chunk of consumers own both consoles. Thats when it really matters.

The galaxy is the only android phone pushing iPhone numbers and it aint the most powerful android phone on the market.

How many new IPs can we expect?

- We know Black Tusk is working with a new IP:

General Manager, Microsoft Studios
Microsoft

Public Company; 10,001+ employees; MSFT;

March 2012 – Present (1 year 3 months) Vancouver, Canada Area

General Manager of Black Tusk Studios. Creation and oversight of a studio focused on development of new first-party blockbuster IP.

- Ryse is a new IP

- Rare?

The way things sound so far is that MS wins on apps, functional capabilities (due to sensor hardware, smartglass, and better OS software), and possibly price.

I would be very confident if I was them. Consumers don't have a hard on for best graphics like this forum does. If graphics trumped everything Wii, PS2, PS1, Gameboy, DS, NES would have all done much worse in their respective times.

If you are a student of console history you don't try to create the most powerful machine. Sony keeps trying to do this and it is not working for them.

As soon as you show awesome stuff and announce exclusives the specs become meaningless. As long as specs are good enough to enable you to show awesome stuff that is all that matters to consumers. Anyone who cares more than that is a PC gamer.

You have to be otaku to care about RAM types in game consoles. The console game industry is much more mainstream than this A/V nerd crap, they care about more tangible things...

"I can control my Comcast/Directv/Sky/Foxtel box with the Kinect and voice commands?"

"I can control my Comcast/Directv/Sky/Foxtel box with my tablet/phone with SmartGlass?"

"CoD and/or Titan are exclusive to Xbox?"

"It's only $299?"

Not much more is necessary. Both companies will sell out every unit they ship in the first 6 months.
I can't see Sony pricing the PS4 above nextbox's rumored $499.

I wish more people on here would stop thinking like a gaf poster and talk about the fun of games instead of always worrying about specs, resolutions, tearing. I miss being a kid and not even knowing about that stuff and just playing games cause they were fun.

Most of us still think more purely. We're called Wiiu owners.

Agreed. In the end, I think most folks who had a 360 will simply move on the the new Xbox and same with the PS4. GAF is a tiny drop of consumers in the grand scheme (in regards to: "Live costs still? I'm switching to PS4!")

It'll be interesting to see how many of those that were so quick to jump to the Sony train will flip flop right back when the 21st rolls around.

At the beginning of a new generation their friends will have to buy a new console, too.

Quite a few people did buy for example the Xbox 360 version of a game because DF said it's the best version. I guess this will be even more the case when both consoles have very different specs, and differences won't be only measurable, but also visible to the untrained eye.

Not really funny, sorry. The spec differences seem to be big, and it will be visible, and it will have impacts on our experience while playing. We will see what Microsoft has to offer in a few days, there is still a chance that they will deliver. I will buy the console first with the most convincing hardware, be it Microsoft or Sony.

Not true. There are more differences between consoles and PCs than specs - comfort features/convenience, price, size, etc... There is a reason why consoles are so succesful.

You're sure putting a lot of emphasis on the faster ram. Sony had the better specs last time and it didn't really seem to matter much in the end. Marketing goes a long ways as does building relations with these publishers and Microsoft is willing to spend money partnering themselves with big franchises. Does Sony still have that Marcus kid to help them out with their marketing or did they win the lawsuit over Kevin Butler?

Depends i don't want to settle for less.

Then invest in a good PC.

I'm surprised at the number of posters talking like they're only getting one or the other.

Aren't most of us buying all 3? I already have a wiiu and I've got 1200AU saved up so far for the other 2.

Just sold my Atari Jaguar and Panasonic 3DO the other day, and my 60GB PS3 a couple if months ago.

:(

I was going to, but have since decided to get a Haswell-based gaming laptop this summer and unless Microsoft really drops the ball, an Xbox in the Fall. I simply dont have the time anymore to play tons of games, so owning all of them at the start just means I'll be paying for a console that wont get much use.

Nope. Wii U/PS4/PC for me. I haven't been a fan of the Xbox brand since Halo 3 came out. My 360 died shortly after that and I didn't care enough to get it fixed or buy a new one. I'm hyped for the reveal because I just love seeing new tech but I really don't have any interest in buying one. Just not a fan of XBox exclusives.

Wii U for my daughter and off TV play.
PS4 for the the exclusives and multiplats that don't come to PC, plus my wife will play it.
PC for everything else.

One console, one portable for me.

Gaming PC and 720 will be fine until the PS4's first price-cut.

I have a feeling a mysterious illness will "reveal" itself on May 21, and I won't be able to make it into work until noon.

I want to do that but I just started a new job so lol. As much as I want to watch the reveal, don't want to take a day off less than a month heh. I'm already bummed that I won't be able to see the Microsoft E3 presentation since it's in the morning but at least I will be able to watch the Sony one.

sony has another conference?

I'm kinda relieved the conference will last an hour, it'll allow me to go in to work that day and take off the 10th where shit will be going down.

This is me in a nutshell. I am not a fan of Xbox exclusives, and they seem to still be focusing on shooters going by rumors and job listings. It's 2 biggest franchises (Halo & GeOW) have no interest to me. I have never enjoyed sci fi FPS games, and I can't explain it. Don't care for Killzone or Resistance either. As you said though I love new technology reveals and reading the impressions afterwards. Then there is the reactions from the other members of the big 3 and of course developer feedback. Interested in the Xbox or not, the 21st is going to bring forth a ton of new discussion, and even a little bit of insanity. That's exciting.

DF has of course an effect on sales. Not entirely directly - but there is a quite wide spread belief that Xbox 360 has the best multiplat versions, and DF helped to establish this. And if you think that 50% more processing power and 150% more bandwidth would not be visible, you will be surprised. Your Xbox/PS2 comparison is also pretty flawed, because the Xbox was a) released a long time after the PS2 b) an entirely new brand which had to prove itself c) more expensive. Now both consoles will be released at the same time for a similar price point. In my opinion Microsoft must release a console which has competitive specs when they want to keep their market share among core gamers.

Dude, we live in a world where the PS3 version of Bayonetta sold like 3x more than the 360 version. Most consumers only want the games to look similar. People who really care about performance buy PCs. That's it.

Buying both day 1. I'll get a WiiU when a 3D Mario is released.

Definitely gonna try and take my lunch break right as the conference begins, I'll at least get to see the first 30 minutes as long as they're prompt.

I don't think anyone expects over $500 for next Gen, but a lot of PS4 fans reacted with disgust to the $500 Durango and seemed to think the PS4 would come in at $400 so its going to be comical if they announce $499.

I'm good for the Xbox Event, but I'm pretty much going to miss all of E3 due to my cousin getting married and all the parties/functions associated with it. D:

GAF is going to be a 500 error minefield the few chances I'll get to even check for news.

May want to plan it for the last 30 minutes, first 30 may be a lot of talking points.

Is it really just an hour? That doesn't seem like a lot of time to dive into this thing. Especially if they want to cover Kinect and media services as well as games.

Remember they have another conference less then 3 weeks later, this is the just unveiling and then they will show a lot more at E3

That's not true. The PS3 has a better CPU, but the GPU is worse than the Xbox 360 GPU, and the PS3 has 18 MB less RAM for games. They are very comparable performance-wise. And this time, it's not just the RAM.

Really? A Japanese title sells better on a Japanese console? Who would have thought.

The 360's reputation as being the 3rd party platform of choice stems more from DLC, timed exclusives, combined with better marketing, DF was a very small part of that equation. It was only a few months back that ERP (who works for Sony) said he expected the real world difference to be about 20-30% between next-gen consoles, I don't know why people disregard that and are slowly building up the difference to be an "orders of magnitude" leap.

Still.....That means their E3 show will not be as focused since they will have to play catch up and cover more things than perhaps they need to at E3. Unless on the 21st the entire event is showing the Xbox and detailing services and features and specs and maybe a demo or 2 and then leave E3 for games.

MS is good with putting enough content in a short amount of time.

I think that is exactly what will happen (the 2nd part)

They're doing post-show interviews and features. Game trailers is going to have coverage of the post show. They'll probably uss this time to cover rumors such as always online, BC, used games specs maybe, launch linup. Basically things that would be no-nos or too indepth for the live show.

Oh ya I completely forgot about the 1 hour post show when they will be interviewing Mattick and other devs on the xbox

Speak for yourself, not everyone has that kind of money.

While I will more than likely have all 3 systems, it won't be anytime soon.

Probably won't be until the half point of the gen or so --- so I guess 2016/2017?

Who knows what will happen then though.

Well good news is we won't have to wait long, I just hope a lot of things are cleared up on the 21st and we don't have a lot of mystery surrounding the console. Maybe even lift the NDAs that are out there as well.

Ya I'm sure we'll hear a lot about it between the 21st and E3 also, plus the 1 hour after show should be interesting.

Ill get Durango on launch hopefully and ps4 a bit later I think.

Did the same current gen and it would make things easier money wise.

I'm not a Nintendo guy so I'm not currently considering getting the wiiu.

I'll probably get all three systems eventually.

Haven't gotten a Wii U yet - not satisfied with the games and hardware. Waiting for a price cut + Mario (if it turns out to be great), and perhaps a revision to the battery life on the tablet.

Will be getting a PS4 day one given the hardware and software lineup. Price is the only other deterrent, but I've got plenty to spend if necessary. This will be my primary console unless Microsoft's strategy changes drastically (more powerful hardware, focus on exclusives, dropping XBL, etc....very unlikely for all of those to happen).

720 could go either way. I don't care about Kinect or Kinect games. I don't want to pay for online. TV interlaced with Xbox Live and slingbox / DVR capabilities isn't important to me. I'd only be getting the system for the exclusives, so Microsoft really needs to impress me with something to get it day 1, and I'm not a big fan of Fable or Forza so that leaves my options limited as I don't think they're going to have Halo ready for a while. Very unlikely that I get the system in its first year, but eventually I'm sure I'll bite because there will surely be some exclusives that come around for it that will get me super hyped.
