There's hype for Durango too, don't you worry.

The guy is a genius. His GIFS are now being used at most publications like EDGE

rather than wasting time in a SONY thread, visit x720 threads rather. I think you will find maybe something interesting? You are a new member . You have dedicated threads for each console owner

the only hype that you see all around is for PS4

FIFA sells mostly in Europe and Europe is SONY land . Now you decide whether a publisher would cannibalize its existing base by releasing its top game on a console which doesnt sell in Europe ?

FIFA =/= FF14 :)

i do have ask ,how many people in japan not on forums like this and even the west still care at this point that one (or 2 if you count TLG) of the game(s) that they bought their org. ps3 7 years ago for are being moved to ps4
I can understand people's frustration at that but i think the fanbase at large honestly don't care anymore on which console it launches as long as it does.

I think the argument that fans who bought a PS3 for those games will be upset because of a next gen move is really dumb. Its not like there hasn't been amazing games to play in the meantime.

This entire generation has been a giant shitfest, nothing decent has been released pretty much at all.....

according to many on NeoGaf

It would be great to see a next gen ND title there, but I have a feeling they'll take their usual spot at the VGA's instead. Especially as that will give the post launch window some extra buzz.

Yeah good point

I know some guys here are a bit worn out on Uncharted but personally I would love to see just one more adventure with Drake and co.

The environments, set pieces and acting/cut scenes blew me away on PS3 and to see the series on PS4 would be fantastic

SONY could go for the overkill. They have the momentum, a few megatons/betrayaltons at e3 and boom they have a menacing console launch in oct/nov

UC is ps3's second best selling exclusives and many would argue that it defines action adventure genre.

UC/GOW/KZ/GT defined PS3. SONY should release atleast 1 game of each franchise next gen. They would be foolish not to do so

They'll have more than enough to fill the conference without ND's next game. But it's possible obviously.

I think it is important to have a one year plan for the PS4 outlined at E3.

This is what we will have day one, look at these demos.

This is what we will have in the first 6 months look at these demos and sizzle reel

This what we will have a year from now, show a trailer for what ND or the second team of GG is working on, and still leave room for next year's E3 to have a demo and more details about those games.

If I am on a fence about buying a PS4 I want proof that the first year is going to packed with games to play, not just on day one. People I feel have seen what has occurred to the Wii U and don't want to drop $400+ on a PS4 for the same to happen. Sony would do well to dispel those fears, and they will have not only E3 to do that, but also Gamescom and TGS.

Sony don't need to alleviate your fears this E3. They may not even make a worldwide launch in 2013 and will certainly sell out over Christmas, as is the case with almost every major console released. The hardcore Sony fans will buy the initial stock and then Sony can keep people happy by showing their hand little by little.
This works well as people don't see a game and have 12+ months of waiting before getting to see more.

As I said they'll have lots of stuff to show at E3, but i'm not sure it's quite the right time for that particular studio.
They'll focus on "What we're launching with... and here's what you can also expect, only on PS4".
This basically.

lol whats with the only on xbox avatars all around the xbox reveal threads LOL. people these days . With Cliffy B being let go by EPIC, i wont be surprised if the next Gears is multiplat. Almost all third party exclusive games have become multi when they were ps2 exclusives last gen. Now, its SONY's turn to give MS a taste of their own medicine

I think all their first party will have showings at E3, but of course not all will be launch titles, They need stuff to get gamers talking.

So let's talk about Megatons and Betrayaltons. What are some actual candidates in today's gaming industry to show up at Sony's conference?

Mods have posted an injunction on any form of teases. But if i am to make a wild guess, just a guess i think next Gears will be on PS4.

Epic?

I think MS has ran through the big 3rd party Sony focused studios and vise versa. Epic is all I can think of who could do a Betrayalton with Gears on PlayStation.

Cliffy B was the only reason why Gears wasnt on PS3. He loved Xbox-nothing wrong with that. With high development costs next gen , that would be an obvious thing to happen

Megaton -

Exclusive Rockstar franchise (Agent?)
Reason - Sony had Agent as an exclusive on PS3 that never launched, this was due to Rockstar owing them a game after they gave up LA Noire (which they had put a great deal of money into).

Square Enix Partnership (Final Fantasy / Kingdom Hearts multiple exclusives)
- This is something that could be announced as sales of Final Fantasy are way higher on the Playstation and HD versions of FFX and KH are currently exclusive to PS3. It's also been rumoured to be a thing.

Gabe Newell on stage again
Announces Half life 3 as a PS4 console exclusive (PC version still obviously). It has to be announced sometime and you never know, Gabe has been quite anti-microsoft (Windows 8) lately.

Betrayalaton -

Epic releases a Sony exclusive new IP or brings Gears franchise multiplat?

I only think the Square Enix one is likely to happen though. All are within the realm of possibility though...

Epic?

I think MS has ran through the big 3rd party Sony focused studios and vise versa. Epic is all I can think if who could do a Betrayalton with Gears on PlayStation.

There are strong rumours of Epic planning to exit games development: This does make sense in light of their recent developer departures. I think Epic are pretty much out of being a candidate for any kind of betrayalton.

But who knows: Jazz Jackrabbit 3, exklusively on Playstation 4!

What about Reverse Betrayaltons? Jeff Gerstmann has already went on record during a GT show where he had heard that third party studios were now going back to being exclusive to consoles for reasons he didn't agree with when they were talking about the PS4. He didn't go further than that but it definitely gets the gears turning. Maybe we'll see more Japanese companies go back to PS4 and Wii U exclusives and leave out Durango?

But if that was to happen Epic would have to find a new publisher for Gears. I am sure everyone would jump up and down for it but I cant think who would pay better then Microsoft. EA? They probably wouldnt go back after Bulletstorm.

Activision? Would be nice for non destiny years I guess.

Warner and Square are probably to small.

Yeah I think the Betrayaltons this round will not be exclusives going multiplat but multiplats going exclusive. Wouldnt be shocked if COD is durango exclusive this year. Wouldnt be shocked if GTAV is locked up as a next gen exclusive for someone. I bet Ubi has another big new IP for the xbox event that could be exclusive. We are already hearing rumours of Final Fantasy going PS exclusive for the next game.

The next month should have plenty of shockers thats for sure.

EPIC wont be able to license out UE4 as much as they did last gen with ue3, since new consoles are powerful enough with a large amount of ram to support any unoptimized game engines

The company wont survive by just licensing their engines. They have to make their games multiplat to counter high development costs

COD sells like 10m on each console so chances of that happening is null.same goes to BF4 , FIFA and GTA5. publishers dont have the money to make these exclusives
As for FF, FF13 made 80% of its sales on PS3 so if they make it PS4 exclusive , not only Square can showcase their talent with a more powerful HW, they wont even need a team for x720 development

Well, the question would be which company or rather which game.
I don't think an entire company would develop exclusive once again after they went multiplatt. The only exception are japanese market focused studios with rather small games, most of them are already more or less exclusive like the NIS games.

Its really make no sense to be exclusive with the hardware being so much alike. Really would be a stupid move.

You'll still get shitty performance no matter the amount of ram/cpu power you have.

Also far easier (and cheaper!) to use an established engine than having to write your own. The idea of off the shelf engines is not going to go away this generation

Powerful and mature development tools will be more important than ever next generation: I see no reason why Epic wouldn't be able to support their business on engine licenses alone. Certainly seems lower risk than trying to make money by selling games as their franchises aren't all that strong these days (except for Gears).

People Can Fly could remain Epic's developer while they themselves cease to produce anything but middle-ware.

Well going back to what Gerstmann said, companies are doing it for reason he doesn't agree with. Honestly, that sounds more like companies are jumping board with MS since there is still the possibility they will have some form of DRM with Durango that would make it more attractive to studios to make games for them instead of the PS4. Speculation of course but stuff that could very well happen.

Why would a company kill its ip that can generate 500m in revenue per game?

As you seen with new game announcements, almost every developer is coming up with its own engine and licensing doesnt earn you that much cash anyway

Gears if made multi can sell 10m + on both consoles. Why would a company miss out on an opportunity like that?

Still compare to last gen more of the big boys are just making there own engine .
Then they have crytek to deal with , there engine could be just as good but cheaper .

yes, cuz each developer wants to have something unique. 8 gig ram ...u can utilize 1000s of redundant codes/routines and even ddr3 is fast enough to run them without problems.

We don't know whether they can actually take Gears multiplatform.

Epic doesn't have to "kill" the series, they could either license Gears out or let People Can Fly handle it (like Judgment): Running a full development studio for one hit series isn't worth the effort (Infinity Blade doesn't bring in all that much money and its latest iteration is "on hold").

Epic is probably expecting that UE4 is going to remain competitive and important, even with publishers favouring their own game engines. There's a reason we've had so many high-profile departures and closings of sub-developers at Epic.

like i said , licensing doesnt earn you that cash. EPIC owns Gears ip and i am sure SONY would love to publish it if made multiplat. EPIC had 3 Gears iterations exclusive deal with MS . Thats no longer the case if they make Gears 4

Cliffy B was let go and that too forcibly so definitely some changes are coming to their business plans

As you seen with new game announcements, almost every developer is coming up with its own engine and licensing doesnt earn you that much cash anyway

We've only *really* seen first party games from sony which share and use in house development tools, or very very large 3rd party studios which have the funds and man power to write their own engine

Mid level and lower studios most certainly are not writing their own engines.

Even though I don't particularly like Gears of War, I'd love for Epic to continue developing games: It just seems to me they are going through big changes, and that their game development efforts could be a part of their business that doesn't make the cut.

with 8 gig RAM , you can write virtually anything. Its foolish to think that a company would refrain from releasing a game from their main franchise which could sell in excess of 10m if made for both consoles

There is just no way you would not see a next Gears game next gen . It is their cash cow and with Cliffy B's departure , i guess they would make it multiplat

You seem to have a very narrow idea of what a game engine actually does: Efficient and powerful game engines will remain very important, even with RAM constraints being less of a factor next console generation. But Unreal's importance in the AAA space could diminish.

I don't think we're going to see very many new reveals. The conference will mostly be for new gameplay videos for the games announced at the PS4 event. Also, I've got a feeling we will see a price and release date during the conference. No reason to hold it until Gamescom (not releasing in EU this quarter) or TGS (the fanbase has moved on to handhelds).

I don't think big titles like GTA/COD/Fifa/etc could ever go exclusive.

But we already got the first taste of a multiplat going exclusive for 8th gen, and that's Bayonetta 2 being a Wii U exclusive, I wouldn't be shocked if the big 3 moneyhat titles to be exclusive, more than they did last gen.

You can, but good luck getting it to run or run and not be a big piece of shit

I have and currently am working on a 2d(!) engine for fun and study and it is far more difficult than you think to not only get to run without any issue but to get it to run at all without crashing. Throwing RAM at a problem is only (a very small) part of a solution
