Here's what we've learned: Showing the actual console at a console reveal isn't important. The size of the tent at your console reveal, however, is very important. I didn't know these things before. But I know them now. I just hope for Microsoft's sake they dont make the faux pas of showing what the next Xbox looks like. They might not recover from it.

don't forget talking about the insides of the console and your buzz words for developing it almost half the length... That is very important too.

Now I didn't read too far back, so forgive me if this has been answered already, but are we 100% sure that this tent is for the actual event and not just a post show demo area?

Jesus christ. A comment on venue size blows up into a big fanboy pissing match.
There's about ten times more passive-agressive whine-posts about the trolling than actual trolls in this thread.

Don't take shit so personal. Just ignore and move on.

Fake edit: basically what benny_a just said.

We shouldn't see what the system looks like till we get home from the store and open the box!

You guys are way too sensitive about this.
The PS Meeting was once in a life time kind of thread, topping it was never really an option.
I just thought this read will be bigger, that's it.

This thread is trying too hard, you will never top the PS Meeting thread, never.

This is what you posted yesterday, about 1500 posts ago:

Wow, the lack of hype in this thread is amazing.
The PS4 thread was beautiful.

Your post prior to that:

Do not try and bend the hype. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
What truth?
There is no hype.

You're certainly not trying hard enough yourself.

We are 100% sure it is a tent and it involves the Xbox event. That's it.

The tent is open because it needs all that space to cool off the obviously overheating XBOX 720 hardware. Expect huge fans to be blowing right on the box.
As for real news. I too would like to see Phil Harrison speak. I hate his attitude, pretty much disliked him since day one. But he is a good speaker and a better presenter than most.

I think using Phil Harrison would be a good idea, maybe. He's a better frontman than MS's regulars, but he evokes Sony for the core audience.
I could see Harrison coming on stage to talk about their european studios/games. Don should host the event though.

Aww dammit!

Who cares? Apart from Sony fanboys?

Edit: just seen gaming noobs edit, stop acting like a joke. You're coming off as really salty.

Why does it matter which thread is bigger?

I hope we see some hint of PGR returning at this event, if not a full blown reveal. PGR was always more my cup of tea than Forza.

Isn't this thing being held on Microsoft-owned grounds?

Setting up a huge tent-like structure in your backyard to demo your new product is kinda impressive.

EDIT: The PS thread had the advantage of being people's first taste of next-gen news. So obviously it got a bigger start.

But we will prevail in the end.

BECAUSE VICTORY IS ONLY ON XBOX

I really hope we see the Xbox. I think Sony fucked up not showing it. If a shitty cellphone pic leaks before they reveal it, it's going to be anti-climatic, and it's a loss for marketing.

MS should show their box at the event. So no one can show it for them first.

They will show the box... Major Nelson and Aaron Greenberg were publicly saying not showing the box was a weird way to unveil.

Showing the box would be smart, mainstream news will show it then on TV too.
I think they will do it.

I think not showing the box isn't a big deal but for people like us that follow gaming news pretty much daily, we will know about leaked cellphone images and that will put the damper on the hype.

Even if it's leaked, the majority of people will learn about the design by browsing their regular tech or for this kind of reveal mainstream news sites when it's officially unveiled not when it's rumored from some Chinese site.

I would assume that the showing the box thing is why they didn't go first. They wanted it to be ready.

Cause you know, the PS4 conference didn't actually use a PS4. They used a PC running aproximate tech, right?

That does seem a bit small. I mean, mainly from a "hey lets show our new games on and services on a really big projector" standpoint.

I actually thought the original Xbox 360, the white one, had a great look.
That white matte monolith of power combined with the green lights, I always thought it looked way better than the current glossy slim.

They probably will. It's something they can capitalize with, since Sony for some "Sony" reason didn't show the damn thing. Also, Major Nelson's twitter after the PS Metting "Announce a console without actually showing a console? That's one approach" practically confirmed that they will show hardware.

With E3 around the corner it doesn't need to be a big flashy event. To actually go there I think I'd prefer a smaller, more personal venue.

Depending on the demo they used a devkit or a PC running at approx. spec and depending on iteration of the devkit those are as similar as possible to the final configuration as manufacturing and design allows. For Orbis there are overviews of the known devkit iterations and the stuff that never changed was for example the GPU TFlops power. (But had more traditional memory architecture at the start and such.)

Demos at E3. We'll get sizzle reels at this event, I've maintained as much from the beginning. Video trailers/sizzle reels with the promise of more at E3.

It was a strange decision. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony show it when they announce GT6 in a couple of days though.

Ah, I see. But what I'm saying is that it would be cool if Microsoft were able to prove they were actually playing on what will be the retail version of the hardware.
