Don't avoid threads that pop up once a Durango multiplat is proven to look/run better than the PS4 version. Lazy Devs™ amirite?

In light of the extremely similar architecture, I don't see how this could be possible (if specs don't change). They could probably take almost the same code and it would run better on PS4 with next to no changes.

I don't think specs crossed my mind once when I was deciding whether to buy a 360 or PS3. It's just so completely and utterly irrelevant to gaming. I know I'm going to get crucified for that comment but fuck it.

"Halo 5 looks amazing but I just can't get over that 176GB/sec bandwidth in PS4!"
- nobody ever

All the bandwidth means jackshit.

It's about GPU and CPU power. They are what power games, not GDDR5.

I think this generation, more than ever, specs aren't going to matter. Every rumour and leak we've heard puts the PS4 and next Xbox at roughly the same level. Whatever difference there is will be so slight that it probably won't make a difference.

Even if the difference is more than slight, it won't mean anything to most.

I'm actually surprised most of GAF is looking at being one console owners next gen. I would have assumed most of us would be multis.

I became multi because Mario Kart 64 made me realise I'm missing out on great games only being a Segabot.

I have to buy a PS4. How else will I get to play God of War? Same way a Nintendo console is compulsory while Zelda games are still being produced.

Maybe but I heard MS force devs only use API. MS alway can made code run better on Xbox than other systems.

The performance difference between the rumored Xbox specs and PS4 is ~2x WiiU. Imo not "roughly the same level". I hope Microsoft has upgraded the specs, so that we get more advanced multiplat titles.

Bandwidth is also a part of the equation.

If Microsoft is really forcing devs to use a strict API, the performance could be affected negativly compared to a platform with no such rules. Something like this is enforced to ensure compatibility (with later products for example), not because of performance reasons.

Both system will ship with midrange GPU's. The ram will definitely help to keep the systems in a longer console cycle but a midrange GPU doesn't turn magically into a SLI like powerhouse because of RAM.

What a peculiar metric. What I meant, however, was that compared to say, PS4 to Wii U, the PS4 and Next Xbox are more on par. Multi-platform games will depend on the lowest common denominator, sure, but we're not talking massive leaps, are we?

Or maybe we are? I've been out of following specs for years.

1.8TFLOP is a comfortable spot to aim for.

MS just aimed really low for reasons unknown. It also doesn't make any sense since Thurrott claims the next box will still be expensive.

eDRAM takes up a lot of die space making the chip bigger. bigger chips mean lower yields which means more $$. Same thing with increasing the frequency, sure they could do it but that would mean more binning which means more $$/usable chip. But this is all speculation.

I'm hoping that guy from Bioware is right, and we are looking at two consoles with 8GB of GDDR5 + comparable specs and prices.

Well I mean if they're making the game for both consoles. I would have to start xbox lead because strict API, hence it forcing game will run better on Xbox if I just simple port to PS4..

Seriously though I want to shit myself like the first time I saw Oblivion. I haven't seen any next gen stuff that blew my mind like that did yet.

It was someone from Blizzard - a cinematic animator - here on GAF. I'm looking for the post.

edit:
there you go:

Durango has 8 gig GDDR5, always has. Sony matched, not the other way around.
That's very nice if true (and that's seems very reasonable) though DDR4 or HMC (though that would be very unlikely, at least for a 2013 release) would be more interesting. If both consoles have the same amount of GDDR5 memory, the battle takes its ways to memory speed and amount of memory reserved for OS. The actual answer will be nice to know.

u sceptical coz u basing everything on vgleaks papers
and im pretty much sure vgleaks dosnt show the entire picture of the new console

It's not just vgleaks. Edge and Eurogamer corroborated with their own sources which confirmed the same thing.

You're fine to doubt, just remember you are doubting more than just vgleaks.

And yeah, I'll be "that" guy, but can you write in proper prose please. You know, start a sentence with a capital letter, write "you" instead of "u", that sort of thing. Your English is okay, you get the message across but I think people will appreciate your posts more if they didn't look like it was written for a teen phone text message. It'll be good practice too.

I'll be getting both consoles. But what I'm not doing is getting both this year. It would be a serious waste of time and money quite frankly.

If both consoles release this year I'll be getting one and then look into getting another sometime next year.

Thanks for the english tips :) ill try to do better

I think that all the sites based their words on the existence of the superdae leaks...
yes that exist...
kotaku edge vgleaks all based on superdae sdk leak

from edge
"Our insider described the screengrabs from the Durango SDK on vgleaks.com as “entirely legitimate”, although they contain much of the same information we revealed on February 6th, and were circulated to developers working with the console last year."

they talking about superdae sdk ...and the specs are based on that ..

but superdae himself admits on twitter that the leak is old ....and ps4 specs looked better because of this

"DAE
‏@superDaE
@cryengine1007 Durango info released in past was old, which, when Orbis info came out, made Orbis look a whole lot better. Derp."

for this reason i dont take vgleaks edge kotaku ..and everyoen basing on superdae leak as fact when him said for long time that durango>ps4

Where is this FIFA stuff coming from? Is there a rumour?

Anecdotally I know a lot of people who play FIFA on PS3, even if they own an Xbox 360. A lot of people still associate it with PlayStation.

So that claim is legit?

We don't know. As a cinematic animator he doesn't have to know anything about specs, I guess. Of course he could have heard something from other devs, but he later clarifies that it is just a guess from him. I suppose if he knew, he would be even more confident.
