Which is why I said ALL consoles have games worth buying a console for.

If all you play is Cod For example, what will then clinch the decision for you?

Both HD consoles has CoD so how would you then decide?

1.) Where your friends are at
2.) Controller preference
3.) Exclusive content
4.) Larger player base
5.) OS/services

That's true. There's just a lot of cynicism towards modern gaming. Nostalgia and a lack of thinking about the big picture usually is the reason why people think things are worse off. I don't think gaming has ever been better than today/

I too think that people blow things out of proportion, but there are DEFINITELY bad things about modern gaming. It's just that for some people, those bad things are dealbreakers, just like I'm sure some people scoffed at gaming in the old days because of the graphics, which were worse than the sort of cartoons they were used to seeing on TV.

For me, I can deal with them, and I see plenty of devs sidestep them and gradually learn to overcome them.

Kids are pretty smart. They do their research and find out how the consoles work and what their differences are. And not that many of them ONLY play CoD, if any. Those that do are probably the casuals.

On OS/"entertainment services" vs. games:

I truly don't care about OS + entertainment stuff at all. Like, if it was up to me, games would still boot straight to the game menu and the only OS interaction would be a "home" menu for battery life and turning the console off. Aside from Blu-rays I don't use these boxes for anything but games. I've also really, really cut back on multiplayer and games with online modes so things like Xbox's Live integration barely matter to me anymore. I do understand that not everyone feels that way, and that's fine, but wake me up when they're talking about the tech inside the box and games are on screen. Everything else....is just everything else.

I totally agree. There's aways going to be growing pains, but I don't want to go back and I don't think you do either,

I really couldn't possibly disagree with you more in terms of my wants but hey, different strokes.

I enhanced the darken area, so it revealed!

Sawry bud, this is the only stuff we can really speculate about. Tech and game stuff is more up to microsoft's decisions, OS stuff however is generally easier to predict.

Wait til leaks or the actual reveal!

God damned the avatars and the solidarity there is WORTH the entire thread. Bravo.

It's been a hell of a time in these Xbox threads these past few months. I hope all of this continues to the next Xbox's launch day and beyond, because it's been a ton of fun and I'm looking forward to that fun to continue.

I get what you want, and that's fine. I'm not saying anyone's right or wrong here. Truthfully, I just haven't come around to the whole "living room entertainment box with massive OS features and whoosh whoosh connectivity in every feature, share and upload every moment, open tabs and watch Netflix while you're watching ESPN and chatting with your grandmother" stuff. These things are still just video game consoles to me. I approch them the same way I did my SNES/Genesis. All I want from these new boxes is to make the process of me getting into games faster and as streamlined as possible, and more horsepower for devs to play around with.

Not to lie, the one OS improvement I'm interested in is the PSN Store and Xbox Live Marketplace being faster to navigate. Everything else is just fluff to me. I probably haven't even used 10% of the extra features and services available on current gen machines.

I'm not saying that the topic of discussion is wrong in anyway. Speculate on whatever you want, I was just throwing my perspective in there.

My favorite thing was people who didn't ask for and probably didn't want only on avs having them made for them and being pressured into using them

Agreed.

My hype kicked into high gear once us Xbox fans had our own avatar style. Hoping the 21st doesn't disappoint and then the hype train will be unstoppable leading up to E3 and launch!

Ya its been genuinely pleasant and that is something that CAN'T be said about most other threads. It's nice to just see people interested with less bitching. Its not completely gone, but its minimized which is great and actually is more for what this thread is than the typical. Dah M$ moneyhat, kinectatron bullshit.

I'm kinda hoping for all new IP's come launch.
I know that sequels/prequels/add-on/remakes are used to establish a link between old console and the new, and is a way to get the average punter to want to purchase the new box. I would just like something new, daring and overwhelmingly next-gen.
Either way, I will be getting the nextbox. No leaks sucks large balls. 6 days.

I want a sequel to every original Xbox launch title (and/or any old Microsoft first party franchises). Surely they're going to have one or two of these right? PGR5 is all but confirmed...unless everyone is way off track. So pumped. Kudos based multiplayer ftw.

I am personally hoping for good games. Full stop.
I don't give a shit if they have the number 10 after them, if they are prequels, new IP's, digital, AAA, AAAA, or fucking B games. Good games is all that matters.

I have no preconceived notions of failure or success until I touch the games myself.

smart man!

My wife recently discovered Pin terest, the last 48 hours its been "baby check this out" every 10 minutes. If one of the next gen has this, I might not play any games again.

It's okay, just stick with a silver sub and MS will already do all they can to keep the app away from you!

I want Dark Souls II there!

Is there going to be a chat for the livestream (that isn't GAF IRC)?

A gaf specific chat? Not that I know of (outside of IRC like you mentioned). However, you could always go to one of the major websites streams, as they have chats going on (IGN, Giantbomb, Gametrailers, etc).

What do you guys think the chances are that the cost of XBL will go down over time?

They will add features to make XBL, so I think it will probably stay the same. Seems to be working out well for them at the current price. If anything, they will make it tiered. As someone who has both Gold and Xbox Music Pass, I would love if this could be a part of the same subscription (XBL Platinum here I come!).

Less than a week before my 360 becomes dead to me. RIP.

Gross. I think I'd rather make an appearance in the IRC room, then. lol.

That's a smart choice. ;) The chat rooms for the sites I visited during the PS Meeting were just crazy. It went to fast too have anything resembling a conversation.

Also, don't put your 360 in a corner yet! It still has some great games coming out for it. I'm looking at you State of Decay!

I completely agree, Which is exactly why the PS4 has next to no interest to me.

I found Sony's exclusives severely lacking in fun and interest this gen. Certainly the best example of quantity vs quality that I can think of.

The sales figures would certainly agree with you.

Shocking to think that some multi format third party games on 360, even second tier ones like Army of Two, outsold the likes of the uncharted games.... that's probably a poor example though as UC was great.
