Nightmare doesn't even begin to describe it. The patch delay has been choking the life out of the game. I can't count how many stories I've heard of people basically giving up the game when they find out they could only play on PS3 and then there is the half of the playerbase the game lost the very moment the patch appeared only on the PS3.

Glad it's over.

Firebrand is a piece of shit without the unblockable. You need to rebuild him from the ground up if that's the case. He's basically half the character Zero is. Half.

Doesn't that speak moreso to Zero being too good rather than Firebrand being bad? Firebrand is a strong point character that a lot of the cast can barely fight at all.

Zero is fair aside from his damage output. I've been through this before, but basically:

Aerial Approach: Zero has the buster shot, Firebrand has Bon Voyage. Would you rather get full combos off of a fireball at superjump height, or throw your own body forward? The buster shot is a clear winning.

Keepaway: Firebrand's fireballs are slow and have huge recovery. Zero can cancel his fireballs into buster shots. Zero is a clear winner.

Normal priority: Duh, Zero.

Aerial maneuverability: Zero can air dash up, Firebrand cannot. Zero can get high in the air without using his superjump, Firebrand cannot. Firebrand's air dashes all move him closer to the ground, limiting their application. Zero's do not.

Combo damage: Zero kills anyone with a bar. Firebrand needs a reset and two bars to kill someone.

Hyper utility: Sougenmu > Luminous Body, Rekohha > Dark Fire, and Genmu Zero >>>>> Chaos Tide, which is one of the worst hypers in the game.

Mix-ups: Firebrand has to air dash behind opponents and use an assist to mix them up. Zero just has to Raikousen or air dash x buster shot into a full combo.

They're basically the same character type, but Firebrand is worse at everything Zero does except for the unblockable. Zero doesn't even win tournaments, so consider how terrible Firebrand must be if he did not have the option to cheese people with an unblockable. He would need to be rebuilt from the ground up.

My copy of Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend should be arriving in the mail today. I'm excited to try it out. (I've never played Blazblue before).

I felt like the single player was a chore. There's an enormous amount of reading, and then you find out you're playing the "false" story time and time again. So you have to create multiple save points to go back just to find out what the hell actually happened, and by the time you finish you don't even remember which one was the "true" story anyway because it's so easy to mix the facts up.

But I was mostly talking about the frustration of learning basic combos with any given character. It's a huge time investment just to ABC in a match. Every character is Shuma-Gorath.

So... fighting game announcers.

So, why don't we have more of these? It seems like the Street Fighter series has the monopoly on colorful commentary that happens before, during and after the match. One of the best things about Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Capcom vs SNK 2 is their announcers. Also liked the announcer in the original version of SF4 before they changed the voice to bland Optimus Prime wannabe.

It's a shame it didn't work out for you. BB's simpleness and story have been two of it's major strong points versus the Guilty Gear series. I used to think BB was the ABCs of anime until ASW delivered P4A.

Nothing is as bad as SFxT. CSE's problem was being a followup to two better predecessors and the measly upgrade. It's a decent anime game for people who don't really play anime.

Yeah, the mission modes are excellent. Two input styles, instant replays for all mission combos and a ton of them is good stuff. It gave me a good idea of what I'd be dealing with if I tried any character.

Don't really like the tutorial all that much. Skullgirls' tutorial was the best I've seen in any 2D fighter since it teaches you the skills for any fighting game.

Skullgirls is getting a drunk announcer voice pack as part of the reward for the IGG campaign. Don't know of any other "colorful commentary" in the genre atm.

I don't care if the unblockable is on fucking Hsien Ko... it should be removed. We can remake Firebrand or buff other aspects of him... it doesn't really matter.

Also Zero is getting nerfed too especially his damage output... after the nerf his damage would be near to buffed Firebrand's damage only FBs combos would be way easier. Buster is not always charged up so it's sort of unfair to compare regular fireballs to that... Firebrand can toss like 3 fireballs using the wall cling technique before Zero can toss out one Buster.

I just figured I could trade a game I don't play at all for one I could play for a day and then never play again. Seems like a good idea.

BB isn't simple, it's slow. There are no ABC combos in it. Everything is unintuitive for the sake of being unintuitive.

Zero isn't getting any changes, because this game is not getting patched.

FGTV changes to Firebrand were stupid.

I don't think you understand how Firebrand's wall cling works if you're comparing it to Zero's buster shot. It's unsafe and you can't wall cling L fireballs at anything below jump height, so it doesn't matter. You only wall cling fireballs at superjump height if you feel very risky, or if you are facing a large heavy like Sentinel.

I would trade Bon Voyage for Zero's buster shot any day. Any Firebrand player would. And Zero combos are not hard aside from lightning loops - let's stop pretending they are. There's nothing hard about holding L mid-combo.

I would take Buster for any character that I play by the way. Not for the fireball itself but for the safety it provides and being able to cancel my special moves into it.

Zero is the best character in the game, I will never change from that stance even if he doesn't win a tournament for 10 years.
 
I'm throwing a little pre-release combo contest for Expo-Fighter that is running until May 31st. All of you combo monsters could win yourself an easy 200$. See what you can come up with www.expo-fighter.com

How to enter:

1. Find the highest hit combo you can find with any fighter in the game.

2. Record yourself preforming the combo and upload it online.

3. Post a link to the combo as a reply to this blog post.

Whoever posts the highest hit combo by the end of day May 31 will win 200 $ and a one of a kind in game badge.

Note – post ko combos do not count. Using hacks or mods to the game will not count. In event of a tie the person who posted a reply first will win.

Hahaha. Well, then you will sympathize with my point. Buster and Bon Voyage cover the same angles and have the same purpose, but Buster does it better in every way. Meanwhile, Bon Voyage is Firebrand's only good move outside of the unblockable, and Zero's entire moveset is godlike.

That's why Smash Bros and Marvel are the two best fighting games. Simple and intuitive play instead of forcing people to practice links for 10 hours before they can enjoy a match.

This is precisely why I don't play SSF4:AE very much. I prefer games with something like Marvel's magic series or chain combos. Being able to cancel normals into each other makes more sense to me than really strict timing between moves for no good reason.
