Skullgirls DLC Character vote | The Campaign united us, The Voting will destroy us

An Eliza bro stooping to such lows... Smh

I meant the sentence, not the sentiment!

At the end of these votes, I want exact statistics on who voted for who because eon consistently putting up the numbers is absolutely mystifying to me. She has the single most quiet character legion behind her. None of the circles I frequent that know of the vote have any sort of indication that Aeon's a heavy hitter and yet there she is in both finals.

Dying to see all the data.

Except Sailor Moon was what actually made the genre a genre. It's Star Wars. It's Blade Runner. It's Alien. But for its respective genre.
Not really. It definitely expanded it but it didn't create it. Classical magical girl shows were more like Hime-chan's Ribbon, Creamy Mami, or even later titles like Card Captor Sakura or Ojamajo Doremi. Even after adding the "fighting evil" aspect, there's a ton that keeps Sailor Moon from being a normal sentai.

Then you have offshoots like Utena and Princess Tutu.

Dude, I am not saying that it created it. It typified it. There were space dramas before Star Wars. It created an outline for what a magical-girl show should look like and that context is what ultimately took root as the structure for most magical-girl shows.

That'd be Panzerfaust. There are Aeon people on 4chan, but I can't tell if it's just one person with multiple personality disorder or anons wigging the fuck out.

Occasionally you see a SRK or Skullheart person talking about Dio or getting some OP advantage.

Sailor Moon was more combining magical girl and Sentai. I consider it the start of a subgenre (unsure of anything like it before it) , not the magical girl genre itself (where you have shows like Magical Emi which started it)

Precure, Rayearth, and Madoka are shows I'd consider in Sailor Moon's subgenre.

There have been plenty of traditional MG shows after Sailor moon that don't have the sentai aspects- I wouldn't call Utena a magical girl show (I don't know what I'd call it), and Princess Tutu is a magical girl show, not a magical sentai.

Sailor Moon is largely responsible for anime taking off in the US, because it got girls heavily into fandom, which really expanded the market. I'd say it's probably the most influential anime ever in America.

Sailor Moon's story structure has a lot more to do with tokusatsu than it does with classic magical girl shows, although it certainly became influent enough to influence what came after it (Precure being a clear example of that).

Most of the classic shows were a variation on a girl from some magical kingdom having to live in the human world as some sort of test - magic powers were usually part of the "package" in the protagonist's origins.
(it's kinda disturbing how this might glamorize the concept of "this world isn't something I should have to deal with for long" for young girls, but what do I know... the prichology behind recurring settings like these and mecha is a pet fascination)

For something that both uses the concept, references the classics (Sally the Witch, Himitsu no Akko-chan, Majokko Megu-chan, Minky Momo) and parodies the hell out of it you might want to checkk Dai Mahou Touge, but this is a nice primer:

Annie sems to be in the "warrior" category from the lineage of Cutie Honey and later works as far as I can tell.

Now now, we all know that Tezuka invented the genre with Pricness Knight, like how he invented everything.

Given that I'm not a huge fan of Magical Girl stuff in general, I can't claim to have a huge amount of knowledge on it, but I did watch the entire Sailor Moon series, Madoka, and Heartcatch Precure (Heartcatch Precure being the best from what I've watched). I've also seen Princess Tutu, which is nice.

Anyway, once again, I am not claiming that Sailor Moon started it, only that it was probably the most influential, both in the west and in Japan. It popularized and gave an outline which many have followed in some form or other since its inception.

Also, though this is subjective, I saw Cutie Honey and never considered it to be a magical girl anime.

Of course, as always when discussing Sailor Moon you have to ask which one. The anime diverted in significant ways including adding the monster of the week format as well as introducing more comedy in the vein of Goldfish Warning, the show the staff worked on prior.

Stuff like Madoka definitely go back to the SM manga more than the SM anime.

Eliza had nowhere near the hype than a good portion of the characters, but she probably had the most appeal to the biggest variety of voters. She's sexy, she's cool, cute, great game play concept, unique, etc. . . She may not have been everyone's number one choice, but she had the widest appeal. Aeon kind of has the same thing going for her.

People on forums always overrate the opinion of the vocal fan.

Most fans are not vocal, thats just the way it is.

Dont say something looks like it was drawn by a kid in school, its a silly argument (one that people have thrown at Skullgirls before!) It doesnt make you sound convincing in the least.

Madoka has that ultra kid friendly style for a very good reason, to have sharp contrast with the witches, to lure in fans of the artstyle (in order to then blow their minds) and for the story to have a lot more impact because it deconstructs the genre.

Great ending too.
Sorry I have no issues with it looking kid friendly, the characters just look bad imo.

I don't see how you can say the story deconstructs the genre when it has the ending it has either.

Too Fun.

Just received an early rendition of the River King Casino stage theme!

This version is just the melody, so it's only using piano. From here, she'll begin layering in additional instruments, etc.
Amazing.

Watching this song evolve is going to be a thrill all on its' own. It's already quite brilliant. And yeah, it'd be nice if we could get more than one version of this song. It already sounds great.

I'm never going to get sick of Parasoul's Annie obsession, haha.

Yeah the blue line sketches :P

Well I quite agree, then! Haha. Glad you liked them!

I keep thinking about the logistics of how Parasoul got specifically there, and if any amount of fandom would make one STAY there like that, ha.

Even before it was halfway done, I was already swept up in humming it. It is truly classy. Thanks for sharing at this early stage!
