Is there a single feature that Microsoft could announce that would cement your purchase?

Halo.

I will be powerless to resist the next gen Xbox as soon as Halo is announced.

I've read every book, coo'd over every inch of every campaign.

The only thing that I find frustrating about all the rumours is that... Well... I know I am getting an Xbox for Halo... so it would make my life a lot easier if it did everything right (I don't mean GPU power in that either) so I can be a single format gamer next gen.

I have limited time as an adult and would rather focus that on enjoying experiences... the last couple of years I've had to rush through games when I have the time because my backlog is always bigger than I like. It's actually really stressful to have so many games competing for a finite amount of time.

This is the last generation of consoles and I want to savour every minute of it... I've been doing this for three decades.

So my current plan is:

Only buy one of them at launch and then pick the other one up... either:

1 - when Halo comes out if I decide to run with PS4

2 when PS4 comes down in prices and there's a good library of Sony first party games to be had on the cheap.

Right now, Xbox just has to be in the ballpark of PS4 for me to jump that way first... because I can integrate with Win 8 and my Lumia and stay connected... and while the core function of the platform is games (and I would NEVER buy it if that wasn't the case), of late I've found a lot of the Xbox apps are useful - the GT TV, IGN and Gamespot Apps are getting a lot of use for watching previews and reviews.

Weirdly though, looking at raptr, I've used PS3 a lot more than Xbox this gen.

if you was answering to me ...again in MOST of europe countries there isnt netfllix....

here netflix just dostn work

this is the answer that i get when i go on netflix.com

"Sorry, Netflix is not available in your country yet.
Enter your email & we'll let you know when Netflix is available."

being like this from years :D

you can get netflix on your PC if you use mediahint

or if you get a boxee, appletv and use unblock-us (5$/month) on it you can pay for and use netflix on those as well

here an old rumor about this services

"WinRumors understands that the company is working on an Xbox LIVE Diamond service which will include subscription based access to Live TV, video and music services. Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE Diamond TV service has been rumored for months. Codenamed Orapa, the service combines the company’s mediaroom IPTV services and Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE services. The software giant has trademarked Fusion Vault, Fusion Genesis and Fusion Sentient and also owns xboxfusion.com, possibly part of a new entertainment brand."

http://www.winrumors.com/microsoft-preparing-video-subscription-service-for-xbox-live/

from 2011

If it's Gaming, TV, Film and Music and worked on all my devices like OS X, Android and iOS then I'd be very interested in that provided the content is comparable to what I subscribe to currently and the price is at least slightly lower than what I am paying for currently (or I get something out of paying for a bundle).

Adults do not have backlogs, they have libraries

why would you want to destroy the movies with dubbing?

ive never understood why some countries just choose do defecate on the movies using dubbing instead of subtitles

the only valid reason to use dubbing is in animated movies made for children that cannot read

looks like pure BS to me

I agree, I don't think we have see a real leak info with some personal opinion.

well clearly ms and hollywood cant change this ....so if a company like netflix want to sell their product in europe they need to do the dubbing (and they r not doing it coz is VERY EXPANSIVE. very fuckin expansive!)

the Xbox360 movie app...got thousands movies already witht he dubbing done..so why they dont use it!

swedish is my main spoken language, yet we do not dub (destroy) other countries movies no matter what language. Subtitles is good enough, unless the country is filled with illiterates

No, I thought it was great. I love learning about the process of creating new, better UI.

There was an alleged leak of an internal Microsoft newsletter to employees that clarified that the new Xbox could be used offline as well. This is still just a rumor as much as any of the other rumors though.

Ahh, I saw that. Thanks for the responses guys.

German here - we have pretty decent dubs for some movies or series over here. the german voice of House MD for example is a (debatable) better fit over here. But you are right in general although it's distracting to concentrate on the subtitles because you are missing the actual movie imho.

Subtitles are probably the best, original voice acting can never be replaced with dubbing without losing quality, it kinda degrades the original quality. To each his won I guess, everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

That's great for you I suppose so.
I think subbed destroyed the movie because you cannot remove it. Let it has subtitle option rather than subbed. Same with dubbed too.

Dubbed might the best option because I bet more people can speak than read.

I also never understood dubbing. It is way more expensive. And I think the reason Germans in general don't speak English that well has to do with the lack of subtitles and the fact that they have dubbed everything. At least, I once read a piece about the fact that Dutch and Danish people can speak other language that well because of their habit of using subtitles.

Likewise in Croatia, except for content aimed at children. I could never understand why some countries promote illiteracy in that manner.

It's because the audience is too small in denmark and netherlands. It's not a decision to "we want our people to speak english better".

It doesn't really feel distracting to read subtitles if you're used to them. The human eye/brain is pretty good at it. Plus, people in small European countries are better at English, so the subtitles are more of a crutch in many cases rather than something you have to read 100%.

Indeed, there are some advantages to being a small country. Being able to experience the movie as it was made.

People doing the dubbing are actors too. Some are better than the original, others are worse. It can even explain why some TV shows or movies are more popular in specific countries.

The French voice is great too :

I have the DVD with both original and dubbed voices, but for House I prefer the dub.

In Japan you can usually press a button on your remote to switch between dub and subtitles.

Though it pisses me off that half the Western stuff on Japanese Hulu only has dubbed version. I really wanted to watch March of the Penguins with Morgan Freeman's vocal talents :(

I want to see the original content, not an "improvement" of it.

If a translator takes liberties in improving the books they translate, they probably get fired for it.

So the Danes and Dutch are better at English because they read a lot of DUTCH and DANISH subtitles ?

Wut ?

And I visit Germany a couple of times a year , almost everyone under 50 seems to speak fluent English.

Not really, because it is impossible to translate anything without losing and adding something to it. A literal translation of any book would be awful to read.
That's why some translations from the same book are more famous than others, some of them being regarded as classics. Christopher Marlowe was a great translator. So was Charles Baudelaire. *edit : and Goethe, Paul Auster, Voltaire,...

So the Danes and Dutch are better at English because they read a lot of DUTCH and DANISH subtitles ?

No. Because they hear English all the time in movies and TV.

People from big European countries (Germany / France / Spain / etc.) usually have much stronger accents and worse English skills than people from small European countries (Scandinavia / Netherlands / Portugal etc.). Although even in the big countries things are improving lately (perhaps in part because of the Internet).
