Nintendo Direct 5/17 4PM CEST, 7AM PST, focus on First Party Wii U Summer Titles

I don't think this ND will be the hype one, but the next one surely will be. Consider this a warmup to the happenings, GAF.

Yeah.

I honestly expect this Direct to be purely about getting all the information out there for the titles we have already seen running.

Clearing the decks for the new content at E3.

And now we are looking at their upcoming titles.

Tecmo Koei is not bringing DoA 5: Ultimate. Can't find any other games from them either.
Capcom has Resident Evil: Revelations. But after that? No Lost Planet 3, no Dragon's Dogma, no Remember Me.
What about Namco? Smash is funded by Nintendo and a first party game. I don't see any other games developed by them for Wii U for the future.

EA might be the worst, but the support of other third parties is not looking well either. It's not as if the all next-generation games will see downports for Wii U. Be prepared for the upcoming E3 :/

pac-man is coming to the wii u. they don't have anything else on any other platforms whatsoever that i know of, wii u or not. could possibly be working on another published wii u title?

You are right, they are publishing One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 (PS3) just in Europe. Still, there's also Tales of Xilia (PS3). Call me surprised if they brought their upcoming major titles to Wii U though.

It will definitely be interesting when publishers unveil their next-gen games.

Huh?

Capcom has 3 games coming to Wii U, Tecmo Koei has already released 3, and Namco released TTT and are helping with Smash.

Square Enix doesn't have anything yet, but I suspect that they have some projects cooking for the system as well. As far as the other studios that would be nice to have their support, but we'll see how sales come along once Nintendo starts to get their games out at a regular pace.

Square enix has dragon quest.

I'm not expecting much.

Maybe Pikmin, Game and Wario, Earthbound news maybe, and maybe TW101 if it hasn't been pushed back father.

Other than that I got nothing. Maybe there will be some surprises or something. My focus is on the 3DS though mostly cause there's some hotness out soon.

Tales of Xillia is two years old at this point, though. It was never reasonable to expect it to be ported to Wii U just for the international release.

But I'm not arguing against your point. It's more than obvious that the majority of 3rd parties isn't keen on supporting Nintendo at this time. Who knows what the future will bring, but I don't think this stuff is going to change fundamentally.

did you see what they did with tekken tag tournament 2? costumes, a special mode, free DLC. there's a relationship there for sure that is going past smash bros.

Nooooooooooooo

We're gonna hit the motherlode

As always, I'm keeping my expectations in check, makes for everything to be that much better. Just like Earthbound announcement!

Didn't know it was that old ;)

Hopefully for Wii U owners.

After EA and NPD, we will need megatons.

With everything that's happening, the things that are about to come to light, people might just need a couple megatons.

Of course. This is Nintendo, do you think they will release 5 games in barely 4 months after being unable of delivering more than two developed in-house for 7 months already?

If none of them were available for 7 months because of delays, then surely the chances of a flood of titles is more likely than if the games were already released in the 7 month period...

Seriously, if they weren't able to deliver content as easily developed as Wii Fit U or Wii Play U that don't require of extensive "HD cities" development in the actual launch window, there's something really wrong with their development pipeline. Really really wrong.

Even Pikmin 3 has been in development hell for way more than you would sanely expect for a Wii up-port. And Wind Waker HD reeks of desperate move to have something to release and calm the masses ASAP. Come on, the game barely was a quickly put together tech demo of Gamecube assets with new textures/lightning first time it was shown and they expect it to have it up and running in less than 5 months from now...

Coming from Nintendo's NPD press release...

At the upcoming E3 trade show in June in Los Angeles, Nintendo expects to show attendees upcoming Wii U games from the Mario Kart™, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Super Smash Bros.™ franchises.

Don't know where to post this, but...Smash Bros playable?

In January Iwata said they'll be showing "screenshots". If he wasn't just fooling us, Smash Bros. still seems to be in a very early state. We can call ourselves lucky if we get to see a trailer.

This is it. This IS it.

The next four weeks are what Nintendo have to change perception and get people excited. They have to do it in the face of PS4 blow-out and an Xbox Infinity reveal, but so be it. They no longer have a choice. They cannot fuck around

They have a big line-up for the second half of the year, some of their biggest and most successful franchises from the Wii. The question is if that's going to be enough. They need to prove that it will be enough and they can provide people with enough games to be satisfied now and into 2014. It cannot be just 'hype', it cannot just be 'spin'. It needs to be real excitement.

Next gen is going to be brutal on everyone. I don't think that is a controversial opinion any more. 3rd parties are being conservative on consoles, releasing fewer games than ever and investing in AAA exclusively more and more, and many are already saying that cost increases will be big again. The landscape in 2016 will probably look very different than that of today.

Nintendo have to prove they can survive.

i doubt it'll happen just because it'll probably be an early demo build. you don't want that going public. who knows what else will be buried in those files this early

Today was a rough day, Wii U is having a lot of bad time, NPD data, EA no developing any game for it.

Tomorrow maybe we will start to see the start of a bright new day for the Wii U!

Iwata actually said "screens" of Smash Bros, not screenshots, and with Iwata not so great English than we don't know what to expect, I don't expect a demo but I think a trailer wouldn't be far out of the question,

If the PS4/720 aren't gangbusters it's going to be a scary few years for all of the big 3.

Today started out great, and than ruined by EA and worse by NPD, the sad thing is I was looking over the January Direct thread because I didn't fully see it and than I saw the EA news and lost all motivating to do it.

if anyone capable of doing the Gamecube "Only for" corner in my avatar read this, I'd be very grateful if you changed it! :)

thank you very much in advance.

I don't expect much from this Nintendo Direct. I doubt they have much going on for the Wii U, which is why they had to throw in the 3DS. The Wii U is in serious trouble and unless they pull something serious out of their ass, I doubt it's going to get better.
