I feel like I am 15 or something again (I am 27 now). I had a dream about the conference, the second one this month. The conference was largely boring, but then Microsoft showed off Kingdom Under Fire 2. The dream was so good I was super pumped going into my morning workout. By now, I can easily see how nothing Microsoft will show on the 21st could live up to my hype, but I want to believe.

salty bingo card

and as for the RAM reserved for both systems, I think some are underestimating the amount of RAM to keep these games in memory and multitasking other apps and whatnot.

Agree. Even if people compare show vs. show the fact that Microsoft will be showing a new console along side the biggest selling franchise of the past gen in Call of Duty, that alone in the minds of the masses is already a win.

Even though COD will be on PS4 and PS3/360 etc. the fact that they will have it at their show along side of the new system is such a fucking big coup for them. The battle of mindshare for the masses is NOT with anyone here on Gaf. We are the minority, big time in the grand scheme of things. Little joey watching video's of the new COD and the Next Xbox being shown running is going to cause little joey to shit himself.

right on

Now I not only want Microsoft to have a killer show because I'm interested in a new Xbox, but also just to shut all the naysayers up once again. The unwarranted negative horseshit is definitely WAY less than it was earlier on in this thread, but seeing it still pop up every once and a while is still sad.

I just got this linked, no endorsements:

That fake Infinity logo looks ACE.

I still don't understand the bizarre dream I had of Selena Gomez revealing the new Xbox.

The rumors we have are 1GB for PS4 and 3GB for Durango OS. If that holds and Durango went to 12GB, the split would 9GB for games on Durango, 7GB on PS4.

Pretty similar, but it's better than the current 7GB/5GB rumor (which could change to 7/6)

I would not be at all surprised to see PS4 OS reserve go up over 1GB too though. Just like the two CPU core thing when everybody said 1 or less..

The PS4 RAM is faster and more capable. How much the Durango having more RAM would help it I dont know. A lot of people will say none. I'm not a programmer working on these consoles, none of us are, so I dont know. I do know I'd rather have 9GB than 5GB.

that's what i wanted to know from Reiko. Wouldn't going with GDDR3 RAM as opposed to GDDR5 like Sony make for some significant performance gaps? That's what the Sony fans are saying anyway. They said even if MS came out with 16 gigs of RAM , the PS4 would still outperform it by leaps and bounds because of the difference in speed

It can, but according to many on Gaf only Sony is capable of making changes to their hardware and that MS cannot do this or anything else since Sony, you know are only out for the best interest of the gamers.

Eh, most people have legit reasons for thinking it's not possible. We'll see.

Welll...to be fair, clock speed increase and decreasing system resources isn't much of a "hardware change".

From Microsoft's perspective it will all be about yield/heat/cost vs. performance when it comes to increasing clocks (which won't result in a very large increase to begin with) as well as whatever plans they have with using so much RAM for OS tasks vs. gaming.

Higher clocks is more unlikely than Microsoft decreasing their OS requirements, just because I'm sure they don't want another RROD.

What if the new Xbox was locked to "Always Offline" for every Neogaf member who posts anything negative about Xbox? I wonder how many people would wish for online then? :P

Well Durango was rumored to be running HOT. lol

What if the new console is covered with LED red-colored rings and Microsoft gives us the finger and tells us "fuck you" when they reveal the design?

So, it just sort of dawned on me that...

On tuesday, we will actually see the first shots of a physical, next-gen console.

Sony probably won't show the PS4 until E3, I'm guessing.

A guy (((interference))) said in Beyond3d that games are developed inside a virtual machine (just like vmware) and can access 5GB and 6 cores or something like this.

speculation/damage control: It is easier to hide real specs behind a VM :P

Parts of the process could be done like this... but where other things are done.. just not going to happen. IE: Audio recording and editing. I doubt they would even be doing High Pass and Ultra Res Modeling that way.

You implying that Microsoft are hiding the specs of the console from the actual developers?

Vm is practically like a full pc, even some vm's has GPU emulation (acceleration).
