Fighting Games Weekly | May 13-19 | Throwing coins

I was referring to Japanese NEET Otaku who, supposedly according to something I read a while ago, fund their hobbies (statues, idol concerts, etc) by basically tricking their parents or on occasion daytrading. Could all just be bull, but the post reminded me of that.
Yeah this definitely happens.

Has the schedule for ECT been posted yet?
I looked at the srk topic for it linked in the OP and didn't see the schedule listed anywhere.

What the hell is going on in here? Did all the BlazBlue talk spark some horrible chain reaction? Only seeing from post 1201 and upwards. You guys are the best for random talk lolol.

Edit: Oh God.... Annie talk in here. Yeah, this won't end well.

aqua just had a zangief mirror. final round he dizzes the guy->focus into super. baits the ultra 2 which goes over his head, he then taunts and SPDs. godlike.

So salty that I missed last night's defense of Russian skies.

So how do you guys feel about injustice being at #1 this month?
Was a pretty down month for the industry in general but the fact that a fighting game debuted at #1 is incredible. I actually can't remember the last time I've seen a fighting game so high in the charts.

It was pretty funny seeing the reaction on gaf too, people on here were really salty about the art direction but it's clear that their complaints are outnumbered.

Nah, I think the game succeeds in spite of the bad visual design, which I guess says something for how good the play is. (Maybe "bad" is too strong? It's just kind of meh to me, a generic armored Nolan-esque look.)

1. Injustice sold because DC.
2. Injustice will continue to sell because its the most fun I've had since UMvC3
3. The art direction is still eh. But once you get used to it its not bad.

This. Though I'd even narrow DC in point 1 to Bats/Supes.

The Skullgirl community will remain failing as long as they pass up characters like Panzerfaust from the roster.

It's a guy with a tank on his arm.... A FUCKING TANK ON HIS MUTHA FUCKING ARM!!! Put_panzerfaust_in_mvc4

THE TURRET IS POINTING THE WRONG DAMN WAY. Alex, redesign that arm with one of these and point it the right way.

Super Metroid released today would probably not be beatable by your average gamer without looking online for help. I remember when I first beat Super Metroid it felt like an actual accomplishment. So many times I was stuck in the game. The nook and cranny style game design of SM would never fly in today's game generation.

Same for so many of the Nintendo games I love. One of the best things about the indy movement is the ability to play new creative versions of this style of play. (So pumped for the Gradius + Metroid play of A.N.N.E.)

people who like anime aren't normal

And this is why I hate what the mid nineties fan service explosion did to public opinion. Shows like Gundam Unicorn have no fanservice and are better than most sci-fi out there but god forbid you tell anyone you're watching a JP animated show.

Sorry.

Yeah a third one was necessary. I just saw an opening for discussion on another fighting game in the Fighting Game OT and took it, didn't think it'd cause trouble.

I don't think we caused too much trouble. None of us was immensely salty its just the "If you like Annie you're a creeper" implications that directed things down the wrong lane

Beowulf won? ...I'm alright with it.

It's all good. I just don't bring up character talk in here when it comes to Skullgirls. Sales, mechanics, moves and features? Yeah, I'll bug everyone about that all day. Art and character details are a big no no. That is why we have an OT.

I'm glad this is over and Arc Revo is coming up.

Yoooooooo

That barrel is ridiculous. It's the very first thing my eyes wandered towards. That is some serious ass firepower. No lie... Alex should change the long barrel to this. This would make Potemkin die of jealousy.
At least people haven't started expressing their love for Minette yet. It could be worse.
Yeah... you guys have no idea.

To be fair, in the past people have called out in the SG thread people posting Annie art that crosses the line. Not that particular piece. I have gotten to the point where I just ignore the random post/image like that rather than fight or assume they represent the fanbase.

Glad you liked it - shots from that gun would flatten three city blocks! Would make for Ultimate PzFaust.

That's the guy Art! That's the guy!
I only bought the game because q and lost fragment bought it first. I will not blindly drop 60 on a game like some other people here would. I got capcomed in the past, I know better to wait and see. If the netcode was dog shit like mk9 I wouldn't of bothered. Online is way better, and the huge technical issues from mk9 are absent. I actually give the online more praise than most people do. I enjoy the game more because of it.

So stop trolling. I know its hard panda.

Oh, looks like Injustice did pretty well, higher than what Tomb Raider did last month (some people are saying around 600k).
It's still quite a bit lower than Mortal Kombat, but it looks like NRS is happy.

Yes, this is actually pretty impressive. Much much better than 400k. WB definitely outdid themselves considering the state of the industry with no desirable next gen consoles out.

*raises cup*
Enough to fill Bill Gates' olympic swimming pool.

NRS so smart. casuals will buy your fighting games if the single player content is there.

Im curious with stream you guys watch, do you prefer 720p at 60fps? What resolution do you usually watch on Twitch and does changing the quality selector matter for you?

The reason I ask is on my MacBook Pro at home some 60 fps streams seem to chug along or just freeze completely though I'll hear the audio. It's a 2011 Mac with a lot of RAM and stuff so not sure if its my computer or something on the players end or what but wanted to get a general sense if anyone else runs into those problems too.

I love 720p @ 60fps, but I have a very strong internet connection and a powerful desktop.

If I can't seem to get a stream without lag I use the quality controller quite extensively to pick the highest option that offers the least lag.

my personal favourite is Spooky 432+ at 60fps.

If I'm watching on my chromebook, lower resolutions are fine b/c I'm usually not maximizing the stream. All I want is a stable stream (which is asking a lot from twitch lately).

But watching on TV (only big events, usually) it's gotta be 720p. Framerate is just a bonus.

Having a high resolution for the archives is a big plus, though. I'll watch west coast streams the next morning.

Yeah, single player content is very important when you have marketable characters like Injustice, Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom and Mortal Kombat do.

The ability to change the quality is one of the most important things to me. Above all is 60FPS. Having good quality 480p is more than adequate for just about everything from weeklies to majors and it's usually the resolution I use since I can avoid lag.

A high quality 720p stream is something to die for, but it's a ridiculous luxury imo.

What's nice about Spooky's 432p is that there's so little artifacts that when you upscale it, it looks like a decent 720p stream. Too many streams try 720p without enough bitrate and it ends up blocky everywhere.

I have issues with Flash so I appreciate quality selectors. Sometimes I can run 720p 60FPS and sometimes I can't. I value framerate over resolution though.

What software are you running on your MBP?

I usually just watch in Chrome or whatever. I am just wondering if my older laptop is having a hard time handling flash or something. It will be fine for a while then just freeze but Ill hear audio in the background. When I watch on the Roku on the TV in the living room though I dont really run into that though the Roku process the video a little differently too so who knows.

Wired or wireless internet connection?

This can make a huge difference. When in my house, if I try to stream wirelessly I'll get lots of lag and am forced to drop the quality pretty low.

If wired I can get a great stream even on my 2008 laptop.

I prefer 720. 60 FPS makes the game look a lot faster than it actually is which makes kind screws with me when I want to convert between watching and playing.

I'm perfectly fine with clean looking 480 though.

Actually maybe that is it, I watch using wireless on my laptop so maybe thats why it just craps out periodically. Same when I try to play games on wireless, it just drops the match sometimes -- dont run into that on a wired connection.

Why is T.Hawk so much fun to play.
Because fuck combos.

People in the Hawk suggestion thread at Capcom Unity wanted to lower his Ultra damage. Buncha morons there.

I care less about HD quality, and more about the stream itself not lagging. Unless it's a Spooky stream (since he has the formula down perfectly), I tend to go for lower quality settings first.

My wife and I would play WoW together, and she would be on a wireless connection while I was wired. Huge difference in connection stability.

Yeah I know its a big deal for gaming but didnt occur to me it would affect watching a stream as well but it makes sense I guess. too bad my router is halfwy across the house! Already have one ethernet cable stretching from one end of the house to my room just for gaming. lol
