At least that game is getting new content.

Why can't marble get new content?

I actually don't want new marvel stuff. Despite people complaining about a new patch. Didn't care when people were bitching at Nitsuma at last year's EVO still sorta don't care now.

PS3 Marvel GAF ended up having an unplanned 6-man lobby last night. The game is definitely not dead for those who play it. However, for many people in this thread, the game might be in its death throes.

When you play your first opponent who can consistently land the Doom infinite, it changes how you feel about the game in its current form.

MvC2 had people guard breaking and tearing your asshole open. People seemed fine with it. Though in my case I said what a shitty game and went off to play GG :lol

What a wonderful example. It wasn't until I had to sit down and watch a Vergil combo into an Iron Man infinite that it truly hit me how Keanu Reeves "whoa" this game could be.

Howso? Marvel's always been about one hit = dead character. I'm actually pretty happy when someone infinites me because I build a ton of meter instead of dying with no meter.

Man, I was dissapointed when I read about you guys having that big lobby last night in the Marvel OT.
I completely missed out on it. :(

Should I try to learn Injustice tonight?? It's right here.. I haven't played it.

Also, I guess sometime over the last little while I hit member. Thanks fighting-gaf!

Marvel is dead until people watch pools for the next major. Every. Single. Time. Until we reach complete Doom/whoever saturation, it will always be that way. Actually, not even then because people tolerated MvC2. Thread is on repeat, and people forget the value of a good heel/villain. Marvel is de-OMFGSENORASSTAXI, Marvel is de-GAWDAMNALUKARD, Marvel is de-YoThisMODOK, Marvel is d-AMAGADRAYRAY, etc.

1) Marvel is life.
2) There is no Marvel to watch.
3) Marvel is dead.
3) Life is dead.

Are people really entertaining the thought that Marvel is "dead"? All over a Maximillian comment?

Marvel gets high number of entrants at all competitions (either most entrants or 2nd only to AE), gets top stream view counts, has weeklies all across the US and random ass FGTV sets get like 2K views of players just spamming Hidden Missiles, TAC infinites and Dark Vergil all day. At its worst Marvel is the 2nd most played and watched fighting game on the market and right now the competition of what fighting game gets played/watched is at an all time high... you only need to view the roster of EVO to know this. People still regularly play the game online, discuss it on forums/boards, hell the UMVC3 OT in the Community thread is still alive and well.

I guess where Marvel is "dead" is in the unfathomable amount of hype it provides... the quota has been met now it's like most other fighting games. For the stream monsters, hype addicts and minions, this is unacceptable because they want in your face rushdown, crazy tech all day all the time and low tier heroes. Players have gotten better, teams have gotten more air tight, upsets are at a low (still happen but you can tell it's a hype moment now as opposed to before when they were so commonplace) and the game has approached MVC2 level of end game status where teams/duos/strats are established with some wiggle room. That is to say now its fully possible for players to lose at the character select screen. Another key element is the dominance of zoning/lame play in Marvel especially in the United States. Most other country's Marvel play is "hype" and is still rushdown based but when an American player like Dieminion or ChrisG visit... they clean up with lame play and putting the region's meta game on notice.

And then you have one guy dominating. ChrisG could've been using most any other character and he would still nullify the hype because of his dominance. No one ever called that there would be a point in MVC3's life span where one player could be so dominant, people declared it wouldn't be "that type of game" but it is. The players underneath him haven't adjusted to his level and thus get defeated regularly. Until they get better or change up their strat, it will be the same old stuff.

I will say that if ChrisG extends his dominance to EVO then that will be mark the start of a sharp decline for the game. For most players they don't WANT to play like ChrisG to win, they want to win using their own style of play. When they can't do that anymore, they will stop bothering with the game making it even easier for ChrisG to dominate. The meta game will further stagnate in the 2014 tournament season where even though MVC3 will probably be a featured EVO title... it won't have nearly the same interest. Still it's about to have its 3rd solid EVO showing and that is much better than a lot of other fighting games can even hope to achieve.

TL;DR = Marvel isn't "dead" in terms of people playing, competing and watching the game especially in comparison to 9-10 other fighting games out now but it's not a free hype generator where some random stream monster can flip on a stream and be bombarded by hype moments.

Also a lot of anti-Wii U threads rolling around on the front page of GAF. The vitriol is intense but there isn't a lot of wrong being said in them... just cold hard truth.

I ache for Kamiya.

I guess ECT hasn't done a very good job of promoting itself. Art played a pretty awesome ECT trailer on his stream just now, and apparently the trailer came out back in February, and I watch like every fighting game stream but this is the first time I've ever seen it.

I'm ok with all that. Not too sure about the Sakura changes though.

No way. Marvel actually died about April last year when all the top players except Chris G and Champ stopped playing it seriously. I guess people are just now realising they have been dancing with a rotting corpse all this time.

I think every day since the Wii U has released there's been at least one thread made each day that leads to the same discussion within the first few posts. Gaming would be so much better without emotional Wii U threads made every day. At least then you wouldn't have people trying to rationalize that its okay for Nintendo not to have EA on their platform, or god forbid, more ridiculous assertions. I think the Wii U is a terrible value proposition for a console but goddamn I can't stand those threads anymore.

Sounds about what you'd expect to hear from someone who stopped following the metagame after EVO.
